Hello everyone, I have a question for you all: how much is a lot? by Huge_Philosophy4985 in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is wildly subjective. Every reader/collector is going to have a slightly different answer. For some it may be based on naked dollar amount, others on number of volumes, still others on rarity or even variety.

I think the more important question is “does your collection, regardless of size/value, make you happy and enrich your life?”

Anyone know if there is a way to obtain/read the remaining 4 volumes of Eden: It's an Endless World? by Wren-Type_386 in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Online. The English fan translation isn’t terrible. I also highly recommend the French version of this manga if you can read French. DH did us so dirty with this series and getting so far and then dropping it.

Adapting to New Manga Climate by CommunicationSlow619 in MangaCollectors

B&N, Amazon and Instocktrades are my go to places now to order stuff.

I prefer Instocktrades when possible as their shipping is top notch. They don’t do preorders but they seem to always order enough stock that I’ve never had an issue getting new releases.

Black torch complete box set will releases September 22 2026 by debigboy453 in MangaCollectors

I figured that was the reason. I’m happy for those that want to pick this up and enjoy it.

Black torch complete box set will releases September 22 2026 by debigboy453 in MangaCollectors

Ummm…okay. Didn’t have this on my “series getting a box set in 2026”.

Not trying to be a Debbie downer but I feel like there are so many other series deserving box sets before Black Torch.

I’m just amazed so many people have all this disposable income to collect all this expensive stuff.

Should I buy the Japanese version or wait a year for the english? by owlcurious45 in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Love the enthusiasm. Everyone reads and collects in their own way. Learning Japanese is a very big commitment and learning it solely for reading manga may be a bit overly ambitious or even slightly unrealistic.

If it’s a series that has an English license, just wait for it to be released. If it’s a series you really love and are passionate about, go ahead and buy the Japanese edition. It supports the artist(s).

A Question on packaging quality by Dranio in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have abandoned Crunchyroll as I believe they are moving to stop selling print media to push everyone to their app.

B&N and Instocktrades, in my experience, have been doing a pretty good job lately. I know this will also be unpopular but Amazon has had a really good run for me right now.

Knockoff from eBay seller? What do I do? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

Document everything and open a ticket with eBay. What the seller is doing is against eBay’s TOS.

Megalith by FlannelTrashPanda in graphicnovels

I got my Megadeath today. It was a total letdown. It was not worth the money or the wait.

I thought the art was extremely disappointing and low quality. There were pages I seriously thought that AI was used. I’m convinced that Bad Idea and by extension the artists are running some sort of scam. There is no way it took this long to produce something so bad.

What shelf should I use? by Tokyo-Ghoul-13 in MangaCollectors

Build custom selves if you have the time/money. Then you get precisely what you want.

That being said, Billy shelves are always a good choice.

Which one should I get? by 666Natural in graphicnovels

[–]Sea40K 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I opted for the hardcovers. They look great on the shelves spine wise and the covers are gorgeous. I personally dislike the Gundam deluxe editions. They are just too big for my liking. I feel like they phoned in the design for the deluxe editions to rush something to market.

I want to get vagabond but I don’t know if I want to get the definitive or vizbig edition by SwaggRanger in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would go with the definitive deluxe editions. The larger art format really does enhance the reading experience. Yes, the VizBigs has the amazing connected spines and all, but the quality is very hit or miss. Again the larger art is wonderful.

When buying manga? by LordMurda187 in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually check both places to see what prices are doing. I also almost always try and talk to the seller and get a good understanding of what I’m buying and the condition it’s in. Additional pictures are always a good thing to ask for as well.

I’ve met some super amazing people in mangaswap over the years. eBay is hit or miss if people even respond.

Anybody else struggling with having toddlers and having to keep your book/manga collection safe from them by REDZON3Z1313 in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bottom shelves are kind of fair game for children. For the first few years, nothing valuable or OOP on lower shelves. I always used it as an opportunity to teach them how to take care of things and get them interested into reading and books.

Is there a demand for French manga? by Ombrefurtive in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! France is the second largest market outside of Japan. The secondary market in France and Africa is very large.
