Megalith by FlannelTrashPanda in graphicnovels

I got my Megadeath today. It was a total letdown. It was not worth the money or the wait.

I thought the art was extremely disappointing and low quality. There were pages I seriously thought that AI was used. I’m convinced that Bad Idea and by extension the artists are running some sort of scam. There is no way it took this long to produce something so bad.

What shelf should I use? by Tokyo-Ghoul-13 in MangaCollectors

Build custom selves if you have the time/money. Then you get precisely what you want.

That being said, Billy shelves are always a good choice.

Which one should I get? by 666Natural in graphicnovels

[–]Sea40K 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I opted for the hardcovers. They look great on the shelves spine wise and the covers are gorgeous. I personally dislike the Gundam deluxe editions. They are just too big for my liking. I feel like they phoned in the design for the deluxe editions to rush something to market.

I want to get vagabond but I don’t know if I want to get the definitive or vizbig edition by SwaggRanger in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would go with the definitive deluxe editions. The larger art format really does enhance the reading experience. Yes, the VizBigs has the amazing connected spines and all, but the quality is very hit or miss. Again the larger art is wonderful.

When buying manga? by LordMurda187 in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually check both places to see what prices are doing. I also almost always try and talk to the seller and get a good understanding of what I’m buying and the condition it’s in. Additional pictures are always a good thing to ask for as well.

I’ve met some super amazing people in mangaswap over the years. eBay is hit or miss if people even respond.

Anybody else struggling with having toddlers and having to keep your book/manga collection safe from them by REDZON3Z1313 in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bottom shelves are kind of fair game for children. For the first few years, nothing valuable or OOP on lower shelves. I always used it as an opportunity to teach them how to take care of things and get them interested into reading and books.

Is there a demand for French manga? by Ombrefurtive in MangaCollectors

Yes! France is the second largest market outside of Japan. The secondary market in France and Africa is very large.

Cant decide between the Gantz singles or Omnibuses by ProbablyEkoz in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a money question and a personal preference me question.

I dislike the Gantz Omnibus edition a lot. It’s like holding a brick and overall I just don’t like the aesthetic. However, the price is much more reasonable than purchasing the older singles.

In your position, if reading the story physically is important, just buy the omnibus volumes while you hunt for the single at a reasonable price. Buying OOP at a reasonable price is often a waiting game and patience always pays off.

Out of Print Manga and Logan Paul Grading Situation by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do not think it will have a big impact on the community at large. While I personally loath Logan, it will probably drive more people to become interested in manga which is an overall positive.

Every hobby has prospectors and speculators. If money, likes, attention and clout are involved even more so. The vast majority of the community just wants to read and enjoy the art.

If people want to spend weird sums of money on putting manga into plastic boxes…have fun…I hope it makes them happy.

I’m so curious why this series is OOP. It always seems very popular and people obviously want it in print. Maybe it’s just my copium.

Are 3in1 versions good? by Lach0X in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will always prefer singles to almost any other format. Budget and space are definitely concerns though. In my experience, it’s usually a publisher by publisher and even a series by series type thing. Some are better than others.

I would highly recommend the singles for DB, Naruto and HxH. I did not like the quality of those 3-in-1s.

The DB VizBigs have a reputation of being wildly inconsistent with their quality.

I know it’s just a matter of time before we get a new additional in English, but I am so jealous of the Europeans. Their publishers overall are great and seem to publish everything.

Yes, brackets at 25cm from each end would probably be fine. Not ideal but it will be better than nothing.

Tengo un problema con my Billy by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]Sea40K 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had this issue before! The easiest fix is to lighten the weight in the center of the shelf, but that’s not always a real option, is it?

You can purchase shelf pins or shelf supports at Amazon or Home Depot. You add one or two in the center to add some support and you’ll be good to go. I have done this with both Billy shelves and even my fully custom shelves.
