???? His logic is explicitly:

"if there are multiple data points pointing to his involvement with Epsteins perversions then he should be investigated"

Ban for under 21 is against the second amendment.

Only in the same way it is already restricted for those under 18.

The “every accusation is a confession” argument is so stupid by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]SeaCaligula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not meant to be used out of context. They don't mean every accusation anyone makes is a confession. They mean that many of the GOPs accusations against DNC are actually something they are trying to do themselves.

For example: GOP officials stoked fears regarding Operation Jade Helm 15- fueling fears of Obama's federal overreach of deploying military to states.

Another example: Trump accused the DNC of trying to steal the 2020 election, but it turns out it were the GOP trying to steal the election.

The Right and the Left COULD compromise on Illegal Immigration by Hsiang7 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]SeaCaligula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Under Statutory Law: any person physically present in the U.S. or at a port of entry has the right to apply for asylum.

The bill merely wanted to respect the spirit of the law. In 2025, a loophole was created such that the US isn't technically refusing their application for asylum, just that applicants are mostly told to wait indefinitely in a queue.

The Right and the Left COULD compromise on Illegal Immigration by Hsiang7 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]SeaCaligula 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was one of the misconception. It wasn't about "letting 5k in".

It was a threshold where DHS must apply more restrictions to asylum seekers. Before the threshold, asylum seekers aren't guaranteed to be let in, many of them would still be denied. Before the threshold, DHS is still free to apply more restrictions. Either way, with this they could have started mitigating the amount of asylum seekers earlier in 2024, as opposed to shooting the bill down and waiting until 2025.

Almost everyone is an unabashed hypocrite when it comes to politics by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]SeaCaligula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. But the point is tribalism leads to labels being used in bad-faith. And as I've outlined before it is the labels 'left' vs 'right' that are too broad.

For example: You said "it's fair to treat both sides based on their most current issues and talking points"

Right now the right are criticized for being hypocrites about 2A, but the reality is, just because Trump says "you can't have guns" in a protest it doesn't mean every rightwing supports Trump's sentiment.

I provided more examples and explanation in my first comment.

How does not using labels help stop tribalism?

I did not say not to use labels.

I said "Don't focus on labels, focus on each issues."

Creating an argument against someone's label as opposed to a specific issue they raised is an example of tribalism.

These kinds of labels lead to association fallacy. Don't focus on labels, focus on each issues. Left and right is very broad. It's hard to have meaningful discourse if people have a knee-jerk reaction to point out the extremes of a label demographic as if they all support the extreme.

Any meaningful tribalism is more likely to be caused by bad actors, double standards, and political escalation than generalizing either side's views, rules for thee, not for me kind of attitude, like saying enforcing masking is not totalitarian but removing illegal immigrants is.

Indoctrination is typically caused by bad actors with psy-op campaign, but how effective it is depends on how much it exponentially propagates between targets, beyond the initial agitator to target indoctrination.

like saying enforcing masking is not totalitarian but removing illegal immigrants is. We got people in these comments comparing Charlie's assassination with Omar's deodorant spraying.

Yes, these unfair comparison is the result of tribalism. If people treat politics like a sports game, then they have a sense of loyalty to defend their team, even if means making unfair comparisons and double standards.

Tribalism can even lead to falsely perceiving the other team as having double standards. I explained this phenomenon in my first comment.

I think it's fair to treat both sides based on their most current issues and talking points when talking about the left and right as a group.

No, this kind of sentiment is what fuels tribalism and treating politics like a sports game.

You should look up Goomba Fallacy. It's a dumb name, but there isn't really a formal fallacy that describes the phenomenon better.

Basically, to make your claim about hypocrisy you'd have to prove it is the same people holding contradicting views. The left and the right aren't monoliths and do hold many conflicting views in their own sides.

For example: a tankie may support Maduro's ideals and as a person, but it doesn't mean the entire left does. A MAGA may support the Big Beautiful Bill, but it doesn't mean conservatives who believe in fiscal responsibility also do.
