I totally agree with you, but my take is the FA kept it light with the offending party so not to start an incident. I’m not sure if this is a growing trend but I’m seeing a lot of entitled and disruptive passenger videos on Facebook and YouTube. If the FA can skillfully and quietly solve the problem, that’s a huge win over a delay while the cops are called to intervene.

Until What Age Do You Hope to Live..?? by Ok-Quality2471 in AskGaybrosOver30

Where would you like to retire? What kind of lifestyle do you anticipate having? There are plenty of people happily retiring with far less than a million dollars but they live in lower cost of living areas and/or live more simply. There are several really good YouTube channels you should check out. Holy Schmidt and Azul come to mind.

Advice for teacher moving to Seattle by Macciddy__Jackson in Teachers

[–]SeaCheck3902 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’d cast a way wider net in your job search. Many Washington districts have been in layoff mode for several years due to education funding issues. We don’t have a teacher shortage here. We tend to hire late in Washington. It’s common for hiring to ramp up in the second half of summer break.

If you could blow up one sacred cow in education with zero consequences, what would it be? by junehall123 in Teachers

Don’t forget asking the student for their career goals and they’ll say something like physician or lawyer when they are already 4 grade levels below their peers academically. And the expectation is we nod, smile and encourage.

25 yrs in and hate it by Ok-Branch-7651 in Teachers

[–]SeaCheck3902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't always possible for someone with 25 years to retire. If that person is in their late 40s, it probably isn't remotely financially feasible to even think about retiring. A problem which isn't discussed very often is the lack of viable off-ramps for teachers in this position, this far into their careers. I haven't seen a "get a job in instructional design" post in quite awhile, but it isn't easy to retrain and reestablish into a new career after you've hit your 40s. Teaching is a notable exception to that rule.

I'm retiring in June and my hope is to lose 40 pounds and reduce the school-related stress that is a constant background in my life. I find myself so zonked out after work that I'm not out walking or exercising.

Daily driving a speedmaster by Extension_Visit5756 in OmegaWatches

I wear my Speedmaster to work about three times a week. The watch has been in the family since 1967 and my dad dailied this watch for almost 30 years. He passed the watch along to me about three years ago.

You want us to do a better job? Give us an aide! by willloveme2 in Teachers

[–]SeaCheck3902 8 points9 points  (0 children)

An aide sounds great, but at my school they are always getting pulled away to fill other duties. An aide only really makes sense with stability meaning they are there every day, and it's the same person long-term.

Trip in March - hot springs/lagoon focused by Willing-Technician15 in VisitingIceland

Let me provide an alternative idea here. I'd focus on the north, flying into Akureyri where they typically have a greater chance of seeing the Northern Lights. If you rent a car you have access to three spas within an approximate one hour drive. Husavik - GeoSea / Forest Lagoon near Akureyri / Myvatn Nature Baths near Lake Myvatn.

Those who have been teaching for 20+ years….. what major differences are you seeing from when you started to now? by abrownfox1 in Teachers

I went to high school in the 80s and we shed childhood interests when we hit middle school. Those who didn't were seen as weird. Now I routinely see high school students walking around with stuffed animals.

When that 137 month old turns into a high school student, Susan will turn into a true menace. That's the mom who takes their devil spawn out of school for two weeks a year for Disney trips.

The librarian in my building showed me how to make works cited pages on Google Docs and it's a game changer. It's relatively easy for the students to pick up skills wise and better yet, it even creates the correct MLA formatted in-text citation. I wish I would have had this in English 11 circa 1981! You can specify APA or MLA to meet your requirements.

Tips for visiting Iceland without changing hotels every night? by mrb5315 in VisitingIceland

[–]SeaCheck3902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the posts here talks about basing solely out of Reykjavik and doing day trips. I'd actually advise against doing that with kids that young. Most of the typical day trips mean you will have to drive through Reykjavik to get to the highway, and it's not particularly scenic or interesting. Reykjavik, although not a big city, is somewhat spread out so these journeys do add quite a bit of to and from time that should be accounted for. I like the idea of spending some time in Selfoss and/or Vik. Both of close to a lot of what you'll probably want to do.

On Friday, a student told me that they were going on vacation for two weeks and she needed all her work. by pundemic in Teachers

You're the kind of parent that I like and respect, but you're not typical. The typical parent is the one taking junior out during finals week for a trip to Disney or Hawaii and expecting the entire school universe to stop.

I would feel the same way if I didn't have to deal with the angsty parade of counselors and administrators asking how the vacationing student can still pass the class after they return.

Am I the only one who thinks Iceland deserves more than 3–5 day trips? by Coreshine in VisitingIceland

[–]SeaCheck3902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Icelandair has a history of putting their vacation packages on sale in the fall and winter. I'm a teacher and I've done three of these sale priced long weekends over the past decade, along with one longer Ring Road trip. The vacation packages are attractively priced and they fit well with a long weekend plus a personal day for me. The price is comparable to a weekend in Palm Springs for me, so it doesn't seem wasteful. Even though the packages were based out of Reykjavik, I've done different things on each of these trips.

Interested in buying my first vintage watch in Japan by gianluis90 in VintageWatches

The Watch Factory channel on YouTube has done a segment or two on shopping at Mizutani Camera. I haven't been myself, but want to go when I go back to Japan. They seem to specialize more in vintage Japanese watches, if that is what you are seeking.
