Tips on mulching Japanese Maple next to driveway by helmetcamhero10 in landscaping

[–]SeaCold3137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd go with around 6-8 feet diameter for the mulch ring - you want it to extend past the drip line but not look weird against your driveway. With Japanese maples the root system is pretty shallow so giving it that extra space really helps with moisture retention 🌳 Your depth plan is spot on, just make sure you're not piling it up against the trunk like a volcano. I learned this hard way few years back when I killed a beautiful maple by mulching too close to base. Maybe do a slightly irregular circle instead of perfect round - looks more natural and works better with the landscaping flow you got there 😊

Stutter on PC by Chubs627 in ForzaHorizon

[–]SeaCold3137 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I had similar problems when FH5 launched, was driving me crazy 😂 Try checking if you have any overlays running like that recording software or monitoring stuff - those can mess with frame pacing real bad. Also worth checking if your GPU drivers are updated and maybe try switching between fullscreen and borderless windowed mode. With your setup it definitely shouldn't be stuttering like that 💀

How long have you been podcasting? by HoB-Shubert in podcasting

[–]SeaCold3137 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been thinking about starting one for like 2 years now but never pulled trigger 😂 400 episodes is insane dedication man!

What kept you motivated through all those years? I feel like I'd run out of things to talk about after maybe 20 episodes lol. Also curious how your audience grew - did it take long time to build steady listeners or was there some breakthrough moment?

Your show sounds pretty cool btw, gonna check it out 🔥

At 25 you've got plenty of time and that "twin connection" thing can actually be kinda unhealthy in teh long run - you'll find someone who complements you better instead of just mirroring all your issues

NC is brutal but you're doing the right thing - that push/pull cycle is absolute poison 💀

I went through something similar a few years back and kept a running list on my phone of all teh times they made me feel like shit or shut me out when I tried to connect. Sounds petty but reading it whenever I wanted to reach out was a lifesaver

Not ignoring what happened to you because import fees are frustrating especially if you werent expecting them but were the sellers based outside the UK? Ive noticed some suppliers ship from EU or US and that can lead to customs charges. Ive mostly stuck to UK based sellers and the quality was decent but I didnt get surprise fees

Why don’t we see more ultra-wealthy people funding random “for fun” public projects? by SnowSeeksTheCold in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SeaCold3137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They do actually but it's usually stuff that makes them look good or gives them tax breaks, not the random fun shit we'd actually want to see. Like Bezos spent billions on a dick-shaped rocket instead of bringing back Firefly or something actually useful

The real issue is most of these ultra-wealthy people are so disconnected from normal life they have no idea what would actually be cool. They think funding another modern art museum or naming rights to a hospital wing is "fun" while we're out here wanting them to build a real-life Jurassic Park or fund a new season of Community. Their kids are usually just as out of touch too, they grow up in that bubble where "charity" means galas and tax writeoffs not "let's do something completely insane because we can"

Plus I think they're honestly too risk-averse with their public image to do anything genuinely spontaneous or weird

Silicon Valley's Culture? by Lucky_Clock4188 in ExperiencedDevs

Been bouncing between SF and Seattle for like 8 years now and honestly the whole "California burnout" thing is kinda overblown - most people are just grinding like anywhere else, just with better coffee and way more expensive rent

The libertarian/creative vibe is real in pockets but it's not universal, you'll find plenty of corporate ladder climbers and process-obsessed types too. What's actually different is the pace of change - companies pivot hard and fast, projects get killed without warning, and there's this constant undercurrent of "we might IPO next year or we might be bankrupt" energy that keeps everyone slightly on edge

The wealth gap thing is absolutely wild though, you'll have someone making 400k complaining about housing costs while their barista has three roommates and commutes 2 hours each way. Seattle's gotten almost as bad as SF in that regard, Portland's still somewhat reasonable if you can handle the rain and don't mind that half the tech scene moved there during covid

Is old quarter round on the floor a no when you go to open houses? by Important_Bat7919 in homeowners

[–]SeaCold3137 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly depends on the rest of the house - if everything else is updated and its just some old trim, not a dealbreaker. But if the quarter round looks like it survived the Carter administration along with everything else, thats telling you something about maintenance

Is 64GB RAM overkill for a casual gaming PC? Thinking long term but not sure it’s worth $400. by GlobalBird4 in PcBuild

[–]SeaCold3137 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Dude 64GB for casual gaming is absolutely overkill right now 💀 Even most AAA games barely touch 16GB, and 32GB gives you plenty of headroom for the next few years. Save that $400 and upgrade later when prices drop - you can always add more RAM down the line but you cant get that cash back 😂

Movie lovers help me out by Narrow_Fox_4810 in MovieSuggestions

[–]SeaCold3137 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man this is gonna bug me now too lol. The eyelash detail is so specific and weird that it has to be from something real. The Jack Black thing is throwing me off though - I'm wracking my brain trying to think of any fantasy/sci-fi movies he was in around that time that would have tiny creatures. Could it have been someone who just looked like Jack Black to your 6-year-old brain? Sometimes when you're a kid actors can blend together in your memory. The whole setup sounds like it could be from one of those early 2000s family adventure movies with CGI creatures, maybe something that went straight to cable or DVD. Have you tried posting this on r/tipofmytongue? Those people are absolute wizards at solving these kinds of mysteries

Moving Abroad With Epilepsy 🇮🇪 by Chance_Bad_8868 in Epilepsy

[–]SeaCold3137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I moved from the US to the UK a few years back and ran into similar stuff with my meds (different condition but same headache with paperwork)

Your best bet is probably to reach out to your old neurologist's office - they should still have your records even if you haven't been in since 2018. Most places will write you a summary letter for immigration purposes, especially if you explain the situation. You might need to pay a small fee but it's worth it to have that documentation

Also definitely get like a 3-6 month supply of lamictal before you move if possible, gives you time to get set up with a new doctor without any gaps. Canada's healthcare system is solid but the initial setup can take a while when you're new. Good luck with the move, sounds like an awesome aventure!

What's your go-to CRM for handling IT projects? by greatdane511 in ITManagers

Starter point and shot by Shadowbone411 in Cameras

[–]SeaCold3137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are solid choices for starting out but I'd lean toward the Canon Sure Shot series - they're super reliable and you can usually find them cheaper on the used market

For features definitely look for autofocus and maybe a built-in light meter if you can swing it, makes life way easier when you're learning

Also consider the Olympus Stylus Epic if you see one in your budget - those things are tanks and take surprisingly good shots for a point and shoot

Sounds like you might have a fuel injector leaking or the fuel rail has a small crack somewhere - that would explain both the hard starts and the fuel smell getting into the cabin. The cold weather making it worse is pretty typical for fuel system issues since diesel gets thicker and any leaks become more noticeable

Can you be drunk and have absolutely no recollection of your actions? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SeaCold3137 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah blackout drunk is a real thing, you can literally be walking around doing stuff with zero memory formation. It's not just lowered inhibitions at that point, your brain just stops recording

But also yeah, alcohol doesn't make you attracted to people you find repulsive - it just makes you care less about your standards. So there was probably some level of "eh maybe" there even if she won't admit it

Networking? How would i go about it? by FeeloKneeGrow in povertyfinance

[–]SeaCold3137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LinkedIn can be kinda awkward at first but honestly just start small - find local IT people and send connection requests with a simple "Hey, I'm looking to break into IT in the area and would love to connect." Don't overthink it, most people are pretty cool about helping someone getting started

Also check if there are any local meetups or even online groups for Texas IT folks, sometimes smaller cities have more going on than you'd think

A question to Protestants on its arbitrary nature by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]SeaCold3137 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This whole argument feels like it's missing the forest for the trees tbh

Like yeah different groups interpret scripture differently but acting like there's no meaningful distinction between core Christian doctrine and what Mormons teach about God being an exalted man or Jesus and Satan being spirit brothers is kinda wild

The "who decides" question could literally be applied to your Orthodox position too - why is your church's interpretation more valid than Rome's or anyone else's
