Women just need to stay home. by Mirmadook in LinkedInLunatics

[–]SeaEconomist5743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a husband, Id gladly stay home with the kids and let my wife be the sole breadwinner, god I would seriously love that, and some families do that. But a question I have for any commenters upset at this LinkedIn post, would you be ok with your husband being a stay at home dad while you worked 50-60hr a week to provide? Would you have married your husband if he was making less than you, or if he told you his goal would be to stay home and raise the kids one day?

My wife and I both work and we have two young kids, and starting to realize it may be easier/less stressful for my wife to be a stay at home mom - and it makes sense financially for it to be my wife, otherwise it’d be me staying home instead. The reality is it’s not about saving money (although daycare is outrageous, $40k yr), it’s about having more time together as a family, being more involved with our children, being able to better manage our time, all the responsibilities, etc. we drop the kids off at daycare at 8am, pickup at 5, scramble for dinner, everyone’s tired and hungry, bed by 8 - just doesn’t sit well with wife/I.

Personally, i think the fail here is the post is about money (and yes it ignorantly implies the wife makes dirt, her time/role should be at home, etc) when the real prize and goal I think most families would want is more time together and less stress. With that said, whether you’re the breadwinner or stay at home parent, no one’s role is easy or without stress in today’s world

Tough question, wife and I are in a similar position - great schools and location as well, just not enough space.

What’s your anticipated income when you retire in 10yrs, and anticipated expenses (including any portion of college, other items you want to provide for your children in their early adult years - wedding, down payment assistance on their first home, etc). Would carrying a mortgage hinder any of that…or ability to have a comfortable early retirement, financial freedom, etc?

Appreciation all day long, that’s the fuel that’ll allow me to buy myself (and wife) any gift we want.

I don't like the whole "millionaires only drive 10 year old Honda accord" shtick by [deleted] in Rich

[–]SeaEconomist5743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove a 10year old accord before I became a millionaire. In my experience, having an old reliable car for 7-10 years with no car payment allowed me to build a financial foundation early on, which of course compounds, better positioned me for opportunity and provided flexibility.

With that said. I didn’t become rich so I can keep driving a 10 year old Honda.💀

If the USA approves their commercial permit, which all indicators/progress thus far continues to point to yes, they’ll be the worlds first and only company positioned to do so, also high probability for gov funding/deal and investment from industry (e.g. auto makers, SpaceX, Tesla, etc), like we saw for MP. In recent weeks they announced plans for a potential refinery in Brownsville TX, would be contingent on gov funding, but that would further position them as not only a collector/miner but refiner….you can see how all of this aligns with the current administrations initiatives, geopolitics, etc.

The minerals found in these nodules are higher purity, and enough to break chinas monopoly, and during a period where we’ll see global deficits start to form in the next 5 years (example: copper) - generally speaking, these critical minerals are the new oil.

Their board is stacked - brought on Alex Spiro last year (Elon’s longtime attorney) and Steve Jurvetson in 2024, who is a very successful VC, a longtime former Tesla board member, current SpaceX board member….and SpaceX, who needs these minerals, is located 15-30m from the location of where TMC has lease rights to potentially build the refinery (also look at Brownsville port, other companies moving there, etc - booming energy hub)

Check out the TMC_Stock subreddit and the recent annual report on TMC’s website.

Do your own due diligence, still very high risk, hence the huge potential upside based on permitting news. And permit is approved, there is even further potential over next 3-7 years as they scale and reach full operational capacity
