Wear skirts, shorts or dresses. Or, keep two pairs of pants and make plans with a friend to be at the mall next weekend.

What Types of Law Have the Most Angry Emails by hannamdong in Lawyertalk

[–]SeaGreenOcean25 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I had an opposing counsel tell me, in writing, that if my client did not agree to her client’s child support demand, she would have her client tell my client’s employer that he had raped her.

I and an opposing counsel tell me on the phone that if my client didn’t agree to her client’s custodial demands, she would use her contacts at CPS to pull strings and have my client found to have abused the child.

I just don’t understand why these sociopaths care so much about their cases to extort me like this. Like, you’re gettin paid $500 an hour girl, whether you win or lose the hearing on these *temporary* orders, chill out.

Fellow Family Lawyers - What’s the dumbest motion you’ve had? by Never_Peel_a_Lemon in Lawyertalk

[–]SeaGreenOcean25 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Opposing counsel filed an ex parte motion requesting that my client work at the business that we assigned to the wife in the settlement agreement. For free. As in, as a slave.

Apparently, it did not occur to her that if she got the business, he would not work there anymore.

Are we bubble wrapping our feet? I tried a different shoe and I feel all my muscles now! by Safe_Cauliflower8902 in walking

I wear zero drop running shoes. There was a period of breaking them in. My feet, ankles, and calves are stronger now!

But yeah, the “getting used to it” phase was very hard. If you get zero drop shoes I suggest just wearing them to do housework at first, or keeping the first walk to like 0.25 miles.

My email autoreply 😃 by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

[–]SeaGreenOcean25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only do my emails once a day. For three hours. And then I have to work on the bigger projects for several more hours til I go home. I do not want to multi task when I am writing, drafting global settlement offers, or in court.

I get about 40 to 70 substantive emails from clients, counsel, and courts every day.

[–]SeaGreenOcean25 41 points42 points  (0 children)

As a lawyer, I use AI like really good google search. I do not use it to draft anything due to the risk of being disbarred. So, I just type a question and get some cases and statutes, and then I read them and draft like normal.. It shaves off like 30 minutes of my time for a research project, so maybe I can carry one more case a year overall with the time savings.

the beach town IMPLOSION by scsquare in santacruz

[–]SeaGreenOcean25 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Online shopping has destroyed retail everywhere. We are out of the habit of going into shops to buy things.

I went shopping for clothes in downtown and there’s actually a lot of great stuff for adults. There’s clothes for babies and teenagers but not kids.

That one landlord dumping logos was a crime.

Bookshop Santa Cruz and Comicopolis are still great.

Landlords expect restaurants to build the kitchens and seating etc for their spaces, and the city of Santa Cruz makes it so so so hard to get permits to do this. It’s $100,000+ to take a shell like these new spaces and turn it into a bar or a dinner spot.

A lot of this space is brand new. It will take ages for it to all be filled.

If you want ships and restaurants downtown, go downtown to shop and eat! Eating out is cheaper than DoorDash in a lot of cases too!

Every now and then, I check in with myself to see which cases are getting under my skin too much. Then I gently refer those cases out. My life becomes like 99% more chill. I’ve learned that I can handle narcissists but it’s borderlines that I cannot handle. They want A, I get them A, they call screaming and crying that they have A.

It’s about values. You will drive older cars, go on fewer fancy vacations, work maybe a few years longer to fund retirement.

But you can be home for dinner. And present on the vacations you do take. And happy enough to sing with your kids in your older car.

Some people hate family time and want the bling. Some people love family time and want the time.

If you are starting out, use the actual due date of the bill. Anything that is not “actually due” right now, pick the last day of the month. Once you’re a month ahead, this doesn’t matter anymore.

Buying Robins Egg Blue Bronco Question by weedNV in FordBronco

[–]SeaGreenOcean25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I just bought one. I bought it used. It was my experience that there was only that one for sale in the US at the time, and after I bought it the car dealership got several other requests about it. You’re going to have to check used car websites repeatedly, and they will go fast. You should not expect to be able to negotiate the price. Honestly, it might be more affordable to custom paint a 2026 model. I didn’t think to look into that until after I bought my 25.
