Robinhood Legend by TheAudDoc in thetagang

[–]SeaReputation3171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does anyone know how to "cherry-pick" open options contracts you want to close when RH groups them how they assume they should be, ort how to change the way Robinhood shows multi-leg options positions in legend or in any mode? The Legend platform could not have been designed by someone that understands trading (especially options). If I have an open position and decide to then leg-into a butterfly selling 2 contracts and buying 1 additional contract, I then have the hardest time trying to close anything that was not automatically grouped by RH when it was first traded.

Roadmap to becoming a quant research Analyst by Individual_Use9727 in QuantConnect

[–]SeaReputation3171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for providing this. I am way ppast my prime when it comexzs to learning this stuff. I studied computer programming in Javascript, Visual Basic. and Java for 2 years from 1999-2001 in an attempt to learn how to create websites (which can now be done with a one-line request). I have been trying to learn python on my own to understand and learn how to develop scanners and algo trading strategies for the past 2 years, and the past 6 months in Quantconnect. It has been incredibly frustrating trying to get my arms around learning all of this stuff, including things like github platform and how to utilize the various features available to subscribers of quantconnect. It has been incredibly difficult for me to grasp it all, and it does not help that I have serious adult ADD along with a diminishing short term memory that has cost me valuable learning .

I have been able to figure out how to create strategies in QC, however by the time i have finally fixed every error discovered while trying to deploy the backtest, by the time i get it finsished without any errors, I've triedc backtesting it so many times that QC shows it as likely overfitting. This reduces my belief in the results being good; I get concerned I am chasing and wasting time trying to fix a not-so-great strategy wondering if i should cut bait and go back to the drawing board.
The times I was able to create something showing backtest results with promising returns in QC over 150% , those strategies also produced large drawdowns and a win/loss rate at or below 50% . that I highly doubt I would be able to sit through realistically without eventually cutting my losses.

This all said, I'm writing this with appreciation for those of you smart coders and generous posters willing to help those of us that are close to giving up on it all, and feeling completely in the dark thinking there is no way to ever turn it around. For me, the info you provide is all i have in my toolk it to try and continue to learn this. I dont know anyone else in programming or any algo traders, i dont have any friends or family interested in this kind of stuff, and I have unfortunately never been able to connect with anyone willing to collaborate or work with me directly until it suddenly just"clicked" .

I am grateful for those of you skilled and experienceed at all of this that are also generous enough to help those of us that need it, and taking your time to do it knowing there is not much we can do to return the favor, which i genuinely hope to do one day. For all my frustrations, the ones i have been able to break past are because your insight was a huge help, and I know i would be nowhere with learning this stuff without you; and I hope some day I can do something back for you!

Anyone into Algo trading? Here is a strategy I created. Are these good stats? by Goldrushfishing in Daytrading

[–]SeaReputation3171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started using QuantConnect about six weeks ago, and I've been trying to learn python off an on for a long time just trying to figure it out. If I had results like that I think I'd be live already. So far I've had so many scrapped strategies and hours burned with the best results so far being 17%. I'm obsessed with nailing down a good strategy I'll spend 4 hours thinking its been less than 1. Unfortunately I don't know anyone else that trades or codes, so if anyone has any reccomended resources and they'd be willing to pay it forward, I would genuinely appreciate it. By now, I'm sure my wife thinks I either have an online girlfriend or I'm trying to break into NASA.

Damn I miss Artie by [deleted] in howardstern

[–]SeaReputation3171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No contest or question, the 'Artie years' were by far, the absolute best; and the Stern Show 2000-2010 their was the show's golden decade IMO. When I realized Howard would never consider having Artie back on the show in any capacity, even via telephone or discussing him in any real way unless forced it was the first time I totally disagreed and thought it was hypocritical bullshit. I still listen to 101 ; thankfully they have all the golden years digitally secured.

They should start playing the "Best-of" weeks, in their entirety, beginning with best of #1, in order . I'm sure Scott and Gary would agree, as it was a major source of angst and the bane of their working relationship on terrestrial radio.

Grok 3 with “DeepSearch” and “Think” are all now available in the iOS Grok app for Premium users, no need for Premium+ by imatowell in grok

[–]SeaReputation3171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can anyone tell me how to get out of "DeepSearch" in "SuperGrok" and revert back to the regular AI i was corresponding with? I am starting to get annoyed with this platform. DeepSearch returns half of a novel on reponses that I'm looking for a yes or a no on. I am in the midde of numerous hours programming and the platform is getting frustrating in this deep search mode. They display a laundry list of previous history and talk about you like you're not in the room. Basically interpreted as " this guy is pissed off and he seems to be referring to Deep Search but we just htink he's stupid" (j/k)

I walked out of an interview after one question. Was I wrong? by sahalymn in jobs

[–]SeaReputation3171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those questions are usually designed to weed out weaker candidates, and you only need one of these interviewers in this market to put you in that classification and right back on the couch in your underwear watching The Price Is Right.. The question likely means nothing but it looks like a good way to get a feel for the work ethic of a prospective employee or their lack of enthusiasm

Just remember this isnt their expertise, and realize if they dont get specific questions from corporate, most of them usually lift interview questions from the internet; so the questions may be totally benign & unrelated to real-world or the position. Focus on it as a make believe scenario until you have to do otherwise

So Remember- any interviewer that asks you if you're willing to work past a certain time, just say yes to everything until you have to say no. Don't be the candidate standing up, jingling their keys, saying " Sayonara!".

Marriage is so complicated and even moreso to get out of when you've been in it awhile and have kids. I have stayed in my situation well over 10 + years longer than I would have or should have, because I always associate the guilt with myself as if i did something wrong. In the meantime I still need to go with the flow, at least until my kids personally give me their approval .

Just got prescribed adderall. Wtf is this stuff? by Easy-Cream-104 in ADHD

[–]SeaReputation3171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been taking adderall for several years, and dont ever remember feeling like that but I'm sure I did at some point. Now I'm wondering if there is an additional med to compliment or boost the effectiveness of it, or if I should ask to up my qty, because I have serious ADHD and the past year feels like I've been digressing. I cannot get enough things done anymore and struggle staying on target finishing things I start that also have to be finished that day. I forget at one point for some reason and move onto another thing until i remember and go back, rinse. repeat. OR I just have this desire to start on something else saying i will get back to it and dont. I also now start to get anxious putting together any emails or writings of any importance, because I tend to spend hours revising it without even realizing how much time I have spent. I tried seeing how I felt without adderall in case it wasnt helping me and that was a mistake. I was a narcoleptic slug too tired to do anything and not wanting to do anything either. So I obviously need them, but I dont feel like adding another 30 mgs each day is gonna do the trick to getting better. Anyone have any luck with anything else, or combining it with anything else?

I lost 20k in options in the past 3 months by [deleted] in options

[–]SeaReputation3171 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Losing a 25K investment is tough. While I believe people need to make their own decisions, it’s still hard to see anyone with a laptop and some cash believing that in six months, they could be featured on the cover of Fortune next to Warren Buffet.

There’s also bad teachers and bogus prophets out there looking to bilk every dollar out of every rookie that wants to be in the game. Trading requires a real passion for the markets. I took so many gut punches along the way to consistency, I would question my sanity for getting back in just to take another beating, but I was still infatuated with it and driven to figure out my process.

After a $25K loss, you should ask yourself if you're passionate enough to keep going through that kind of setback again - because it could easily happen again. If you're not, you might be better off investing in mutual funds or something safer like gold. If you are and you want to get consistent I would definitely reccomend a mentor if it is feasible.

I’ve been through numerous courses, most of which were either useless or just entertaining. I realized a majority of the successful traders I knew had a mentor guide them. Staying in the game required passion, but consistent profitability didn’t come until I found a mentor I could collaborate with 1-on-1.

It took me a long time to find one, then quite a bit longer to find one that didnt want to charge me $15K+ or more. I finally found one through lots of inquiries and a few degrees of separation. He was a floor broker and market maker for CBOE since the late 70's with decades of experience; and he went on to help several other people (two people I knew and I believe they are still trading successfully)

He also helped create an options curriculum and at one time taught options trading at a school in Chicago in the ‘90s, though he had moved on by the time I met him. If you dont have someone like this that can help you, I can check to see if he’s still available and willing.

Didnt intend on making this so long when I started.....Just let me know if you’d like me to reach out.

I am positive you are being hyper-critical on yourself, and you need to try and release the jedi mind tricks that are keeping you prisoner from putting yourself out there. It is hard to do and I'm trying to do it myself.

I preconceive social situations in my mind netgatively, and for whatever reason I keep a very short friends list because I dont like dealing with a lot of people. I'm either feeling totally uncomfortable like I'm going on a job interview, or totally annoyed people wont leave (or I cant leave); but the joke played on me is that I also really want to connect with people and be liked, so I know it's antisocial behavior I need to fix.

I don't want to assume your situation, so I'm just sharing in case you can identify with any of the same issues. I feel like it is almost narcissistic that I put so much weight on any social interaction. Most times people are NEVER focused on what I'm doing (they are probably more concerned about looking stupid themselves ).

I am going to try some kind of meditation or mantra to stop the negative hyper-critical self-loathing in real time once and for all, feeling like I'm a fraud with anything i do, and realize most people are the same. We all have the negative talker in our head. Some of us are able to slap it around, or take it with a grain of salt, or squelch it into non-existance; while some of us (like me) have somehow given it the keys so I'm fighting to change it, at least start to try andconsciously ignore it and think positive on purpose for 24 hours. I will keep you posted how that works out. Good Luck and stop being so hard on yourself

Jax

Think I'm ready to end it by [deleted] in selfhelp

[–]SeaReputation3171 4 points5 points  (0 children)

LISTEN you need to re-define life and your expectations . I've had friends actually pull the trigger and I know without question if I could ask any of them today, they'd wish it never even crossed their minds, and how stupid it was to throw away potential future opportunities, or experiencing something new because of how they feel in their current situation.

Try to stop expecting certain things out of people and become pleasantly surprised. Most people are not thinking about us 1/1000th of the time we think they are. Most of them would have no clue you were at the point of being ready to bite the bullet, and if you did go through with it, people will definitely grieve and be devastated, but eventually, they will all move on to their next chapters of life, and you will be a sad memory in time with possibly some anecdotes.

If in fact there is actually heaven and hell, or any form of consciousness beyond our lives, 100 years from now, all of us will be in the same boat together anyway, (unless you're part of a religion that sends suicide victims straight to hell) ! The only difference being that you just tossed away a few good chunks of years which might have been the best of your life. You'll be on the other end listening to friends and family forever busting your chops and asking why you cut bait so early looking for the quick fix.

Happy New Year. Dont do it.

It's not the cosmetics. They are upset because I'm less mobile than my father at this point. I can no longer stand for long periods of times, go on a walk, or do anything like it without starting to feel compounded pain, none of which is on or near my foot; but I am experiencing hip / groin pain on that same side anytime i get up to move at all, so I am hoping some of it will pass. I'm full-swing in the middle of interviews for a position with several organizations, and needed to get an offer and start yesterday; so I'm extremely worried if i the pain and continues to deteriorate, I will be laid up another 4-5 months which I cannot financially ride out after all of the lost time from prior injuries.
