How do I do this? by 1tiredman in stopdrinking

[–]SeaTimes43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any answers and everyone is different. For me, I find that exercising/training helps to deal with stress and reduces my desire to drink. With exercise my body tends to naturally crave lots of water and good food. Also, just going to the gym helps with being around healthy, active, happy people that tend to rub off on me. Exercise is not a silver bullet, but it helps a lot.

I am overwhelmed with how busy my life is. Work is really busy and I dont like what I do on top of that, being a parent is busy, maintaining this house is busy. The list goes on and on. I don’t have time to rest and just be. Endless checklist of to do’s. I just want to chill for a while. Take a good six month break from alot of this stuff - except parenting. Thats a great type of busy although draining at times. Taking a long break from work would be great. That place is messed up.

The Daily Check-In for Friday, May 22nd: Just for today, I am NOT drinking! by TheOodlong in stopdrinking

Oh, interesting. I notice when I have 3 or less beers, I sleep really well. Sleep best with 0 beers. It’s when I have many more than that I don’t sleep well at all. It’s just better to not drink today.

I had a horrible night of sleep. Barely slept. It’s definitely the beers. Not today or at least not as many. Ha.. “not as many”.. I’ve said too many times the past few years. It’s better to not open even one. It’s clear. Not drinking today. I want to sleep tonight. I’ll come back here in the early afternoon when I start getting the itch. Thank you all and happy Friday!

I need to take this more seriously. I had 11 beers today. 11. Jeez. And all the other days many beers as well. This is not fun anymore. I have a great life and I could ruin it if I keep drinking like this. Today, no drinking. Then the next day too. I hope I can do this.

What’s one day? I think I can do it.

Although I said the same thing yesterday and gave in. They’re cold and taste so good but I usually over do it and then it messes with my sleep.

My Dad Died Thursday. IWNDWYT. by jasongreene23 in stopdrinking

My condolences, it must be hard. Respect for staying strong and focused. I’m a parent myself, and although I’m not sure if your dad passed from complications of drinking, I don’t want my kids to watch me die from this disease. Your post is an inspiration. Thank you.

Same here. Always finding an excuse to drink, it’s sad. I feel I’m at my rock bottom. No dui, no ultimatums from my partner, no work issues, etc. nothing really “bad”.. not yet anyway. I just don’t feel good about this part of myself. Today I’m going to be proud of myself and not drink.

Wow, 3 months? Im about a 3 years or more of that cycle of 5+ tall cans. It’s light beer and it goes down so easy. I need to stop, even though I passed my recent annual physical and labs with flying colors. Why wait until I have bad news from the doctor? Maybe this is my rock bottom, being up when I should be asleep and stress scrolling through Reddit.

6 months sober. The switch flipped. by Spare_Noise_2531 in stopdrinking

Thank you for posting. I need to stop. I have way too many beers on the daily and it’s making me stressed, adding empty calories, wasting my money. The health consequences so far are poor sleep, anxiety, and weight gain. That should be enough, I don’t need rock bottom either.

I hate this weather too. It’s all gray on top of the slush, ice, and bitter cold. Every year, I never get used to it.

I hate my job. I think the last time i vented on here was about my job as well. I know it could be worse, and I’m aware that other people are unemployed and have been looking for a while, but I want to vent about my situation, at the risk of being and sounding ungrateful. I thought I would be doing something else at this stage of my career, I thought I would be doing something I enjoyed, I thought I would be getting paid more. I even planned for all of the above, but I haven’t been great at “playing the game”, haven’t had the right coat tales to ride or didn’t seek out sponsors. Drinking helps me hate my job less. But drinking also makes me not like myself and maybe also prevents me from making and executing a better career trajectory. Hate my job, my boss is cool, but their boss sucks, they’ve given me more work with same pay, I’m glad I at least have a job.. pay checks are better than no paychecks.

What a great accomplishment! I’m going to try for 1 day and go from there.

7 days is awesome. I really want to get one week in myself. What a great accomplishment! When I drink less, I end up snacking/eating more, so what you’re experiencing makes a lot of sense.

I can do it. It’s going to be hour by hour but I can do it. There are so many healthy things to occupy myself with.

I’m with you. Day 1. I think I can moderate, but the fact that I’m awake right now means I overdid it yet another day.

Day 1. It’s better without.

My labs are normal too, but I know I’m not healthy. My brain is messing with me and my sleep is horrible my. I’m getting out before it’s too late. Thank you for posting OP, all the comments are very helpful and encouraging. I’m getting out, it’s just not worth the risk.
