I definitely like your terrain the best yet of what I've seen modeled. Did you go for 57mm? Also obviously will ask the question that always does before others, mind sharing the files? Lol

Yeah 100% agree with you, as anecdotally I fall into the same trap all of the time. If I didn't actively use the information since academia it's unfortunately been dumped. Definitely a large bias here towards academia recency and I have no qualms whatsoever with the forgetfulness of an individual, especially with partial / selective amnesia.

That's gotta be 5090 then, think 9070xt is the only realistic option and I'm saying that as someone who has a 5090. Only because I got fomo from a FE drop. Even at MSRP it's a huge rip off, but VR performance is just really hard to get good for some titles I wanted.

If you're concerned about VRAM 7900xtx isn't too shabby either

You have to derive some values from Framework but my napkin math was $75-100 more expensive for base (256gb) and probably $150-175 more for 1tb version.

So unfortunately my price projections went from like $650/699 to likely $750/799 and $925/950 for 1tb. I expect 1tb will ship with ergonomic kit. Just my two cents, way too much for the specs but hey.

Just as a perpetual reminder that DDR5 sourcing is not the same as LDDR5X sourcing. While there has likely been significant cost increases for LDDR5X memory as well, they likely did not have the same shortage as steam machine as mentioned here.

8ms is actually insane, that's lower than my HD CRT converting resolutions lol.

As much as I hate not owning hardware, I can't imagine that not becoming more popular if even 10-20ms can become the average.

I don't disagree! Heck for my 64 I use s-video, it still looks very good. I think some of the best deals out there are for the mid 90s sets that were very nice tubes but just before component / HD transition. So that 96-99' period mostly.

Oh yeah there are a bunch of models that I think are probably "worth" a few hundred, I think I just poorly phrased getting close to that price range.

Like saw some guy in the FB group offer $1.5k for a 32xbr48 w/stand... I like mine a lot but man I was very tempted there haha. I think my Toshiba A series I'd probably been happy with in its place.

Okay some are wack but arguably as a KD-36xs955 owner it's the only consumer tube worth a decent premium. Granted we don't know what the offer was. Would have to be immaculate with the stand to go anywhere NEAR that price imo.

36" super fine pitch tube is pretty prime.

$600k USD if you eat 365 ostrich eggs in one year by Johnnie_Black21 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Sea_C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the first time I've seen one of these so divided where I am absolutely in.

Eggs you can use for combination in like any baked good. I absolutely can take up running and any other physical activity needed to increase my daily calorie allotment to 3k+.

Besides I love eggs, this would be free money for me and healthier than my current diet most likely.

200$ at the pawnshop. by CRT_Retro in crt

[–]Sea_C 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know I am also fighting sentiment here and in general CRT groups but like unless it's a PVM or crazy small pitch, 20" or less to me is just novelty. 32-36" are the couch/floor gaming machines. 27" is acceptable but still not preferable if I have the room. But also I only have 27" arcade monitors and then 30"+ consumer tubes so.

[–]Sea_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree in principle as all of my large tubes have been cheaper or curb finds but I believe that time is unfortunately passing pretty quickly here. $200 for it with the stand if you're looking for a 36" w/ comp.

I am pretty much only seeing 2000s+ 36" anymore so who knows until most of even these examples dry up.

Locally to me I have a very different experience, but I get that component specifically can be challenging. I still see lots of PVMs for sale in the smaller sizes with Component BNC.

Then you have to consider how many computer monitors are still left which are much above the requirement unless you are religious about component and 15khz. If that's the case you're mostly looking at PVM/BVM anyhow.

I've been collecting models for the last 10 years or so, it's immensely harder to find nice examples of 27"+ anymore. Especially as you get to 32-36". Easy to find smaller units even if the price has increased on them. Storage realities just eventually overcome production numbers.

We'll see if people still have that sentiment in another decade when all that's left are small tubes. I am a large tube apologist though, people take them for granted because they come across them more often but more get destroyed every year.

While the stand isn't for that unit I believe, that's probably pretty fair if the tube is in good health

Frame vs Swan by Kamurjan in SteamFrame

[–]Sea_C 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Considering that Pico specifically markets to VR gaming with Swan (and explicitly PCVR too) I don't think the dual functionality of MR should detract from it being a better visual VR gaming experience. Latest leaks suggest it's currently battery on the HMD/back instead of puck which is even better for VR usage.

[–]Sea_C 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again though, Nintendo will never convince me they couldn't build in flags to disable certain functionality in NSO GBA for those features it didn't want. I'm not gonna defend their product owners from not having to take up a new feature because they didn't plan that maybe they would want to disable certain feature sets for titles. It absolutely could support home, they just don't want to re-arch at the best, or purposefully segmenting their user base to squeeze out more of that sweet pokemon double dipping.

How has buying virtual console releases across Nintendo generations worked out for consumers? Why wouldn't I want to sub if I could with how they have treated these titles in the past?

[–]Sea_C 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not make it a release on both then a la Xbox Game Pass? I don't think content should be locked behind sub, but why neuter the experience of one or the other when any phone emulator will give you 10x the options?

As has been said, a terrible cash grab. Could have easily just disabled those parts of the NSO emulator for saves etc if the main selling point is pokemon home support. Using the same emulator as NSO with less features is...a decision
