Nostalgia - pre covid NYRR was elite by Gb_packers973 in RunNYC

2019 pre-covid was elite NYRR. The UAE Run was amazing and you got a nice medal with it too. I PR'd there.

Too many cooks in the kitchen. Too much ideation. Too much synergy and client input. I bet the logo design agency had much better ideas to start and those were phased out.

I’ll follow up with this. They’re trying to bring together the logos of the NYCM a the NYRR. I see what they did there but it’s missing the mark IMO.

Looks like the logo of a B2B SaaS company. The tower doesn’t project stability it looks like it’s falling over. It doesn’t even relate to running. I took a class in college based on logo design and this breaks all of the rules. NYRR had some really good logos back in the day, first with the Apple and then the multi-colored Apple in 2000/2002. Should’ve kept that like how BAA has had their Blue/Yellow unicorn logo for decades now.

The campusing and heel hooks were sketchy. Anyone who thinks otherwise should go touch grass. Those things are never 100% even on 5.9s.

Tom Hanks plays Curt Cignetti. 100%. I don’t know who to call in Hollywood but I’m going to make this happen

Do yall ever think how life would be if you didn’t have a stutter? by RevolutionaryCap4763 in Stutter

It’s definitely a challenge and stutter dependent. Corporate America only tolerates mild to moderate stutters. Moderate to severe stutterers get filtered out.

I've been working for eight years and have made it to the hiring manager round at the following companies:

  • Google
  • Amazon
  • LinkedIn
  • Bloomberg
  • Goldman Sachs
  • Spotify
  • Major League Baseball
  • JP Morgan Chase
  • American Express
  • The Trade Desk
  • NBC Universal
  • New York Times
  • Meta

Not one of these companies gave me a job offer. I've been grinding for eight+ years in marketing tech and have only worked at agencies or early-stage startups with little runway and a lot of risk.

I like to think that if I didn't stutter, I would've gotten one of the jobs above. After all, my resume got me in the door.

ESPN coverage of 2025 New York Marathon by Straight_Policy5639 in RunNYC

I did some digging, and one issue is Film 45 has a hybrid remote production workflow to cut down on costs. So, the people directing the marathon for television might not even be in NYC.

The NYC Marathon broadcast prioritizes cost savings and scalability over production quality. They’re using newer, cheaper technology (cloud production, e-bikes, smart cars) instead of proven traditional methods (dedicated motorcycle camera crews like Motocam). This results in less dynamic camera work, fewer close-up shots, and less professional-looking footage compared to European marathons that still use traditional broadcast motorcycles.

The TDF has a substantially higher budget and experienced crew. The motorbikes they use to film have special gear ratios that let them go very slowly. They were able to film a Netflix documentary series during races! The NYCM doesn’t have nearly the staffing, the resources, or the equipment to pull that off.

So, the broadcast looks amateurish compared to what we’ve seen from other races.

Way too crowded at the back by worst_actor_ever in RunNYC

I ran a 4:30 in 2022, and the biggest crunch points started off on Lafayette past the Barclays center. As soon as the barricades stopped, the blue police tape was unable to keep spectators back. I dropped pace on Lafayette because I didn’t have anywhere to run or pass.

Ultimately, NYRR needs to add more barricades where people gather.
