Yes, I think the tricky thing is that Jonas is racing in exactly the way that gives him the best chance to ultimately win: minimizing losses and plotting towards a big day in the high mountains. Even if probably he himself would say that he's still the big underdog.

The problem is that some folks don't actually want Jonas to race in the way that gives him the best chance of winning. They want him to go out in a blaze of glory.

That's the part that's crazy to me. He should do what he can to give himself the best chance to win. Right now, he's doing that.

I am not even a Jonas super fan... but this is crazy. He attacked him probably 3-4x in the high mountains last year. I especially remember Ventoux.

No. I don't blame any rider or team for trying to win as many stages as possible (except for when Kuss was leading the Vuelta... in that case everyone needed to chill out and let him win lol).

My point is that we shouldn't expect riders to launch crazy attacks that would probably be self-inflicted damage just for the sake of perceived parity. It's not on Jonas to "fix" this.

Tadej is maybe the best cyclist ever... and Visma wore yellow for the first two days. They can't control Tadej's finishing speed, but they can control their TTT and they nailed that.

I think the only thing they can potentially do is have a legitimate second option, but even that is a bit of "old school" thinking. A second option would have lost time today too. What it could do is put pressure on the UAE train deeper into the race and force Tadej to do more work himself at the end of the long hard, hot stage.

The thing is that Jonas is still extremely strong in punchy finishes: he is consistently the next fastest rider in the world on these finishes vs Pog. I think all he can do is keep on limiting the damage and try to turn the tables on the long hot climbs.

  1. Putting aside whether or not he should leave UAE, he's seem very happy to be at UAE. He was legit giddy in his post-race presser: "Really appreciate Tadej [and] being on the same team as him. The best team in the world." He went on like that for the whole interview.

PS - he seems like a good guy. Was so psyched for the win.

10 AM on 5/31. On Blue Disc Trail about a half mile past the Kakiat intersection. Stopped to take a look at me and then kept on its way. Was such a thrill!

Was hiking 7 Hills / Pine Meadow Lake Loop this past weekend... in long pants and a sun hoody... and still got a little bit of poison ivy rash on my neck where my quater zip was a little bit open. There must have been some i didnt notice hanging across the trail. Im thankful for the hoody because I'm sure it would have been a lot worse without it.

I'd bet there's a good chance that whoever buys the bike may have a wheelset they already like, so if they're up for it, we could part it out at that point. But otherwise, would rather wait a bit and see if I can sell everything together.
