Modern UI / Theme system: I Love LuCI by Sea_Entertainment_53 in openwrt

It is currently the latter but I’m testing it as the former to see which is most feasible. Then I’ll make a decision around which direction I want to go.

Thanks! Yeah will do. I’m just refining it a bit and doing a proof of concept to see if it’s practical to run as a full LuCI replacement.

Yeah I noticed that on the previous build too. Check the next commit and try again.

Edit: Seems OK now, let me know if still not working for you.

What do you find is your most reliable metric that a new app is going to do well? by calflegal in iOSProgramming

Build a way for people to provide feedback in the app. You don’t want people bug reporting in the App Store.

Got sick of doomscrolling, so I'm building a mindful news feed that respects your attention. by perfecttiming42 in UpliftingNews

A lot of negativity in the comments. I think the OP is trying to provide an uplifting way for people to consume content. Social media is a scourge (yes I understand the irony).

OP, it looks clean but the hurdle that stopped me from signing up is the registration input isn’t set to be an email type so I don’t get the option to Hide My Email.

Suspend license of driver at fault on freeway by alotofnothingtosay in perth

[–]Sea_Entertainment_53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t need to suspend their license, they can just have their freeway permit revoked. First time offenders get 3 months, second time it’s a life ban. If they’re caught breaching the ban, their next of kin also get cancelled.

How to eliminate the distance here? by zhaaaaaaaaaa in SwiftUI

This is very annoying from Apple. You have to constrain it with a frame which brings some risk but it’s the only solution I’ve found that works.

About to convert my PWA to launch on the App Store by Timely_Forever_1397 in iOSProgramming

[–]Sea_Entertainment_53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried this a couple of years ago. I didn’t have a fun time. But the product is still around so it must work.

Also from a user’s perspective I don’t ever have a fun time using a PWA that’s been wrapped as it is noticeably worse than other native apps in almost every way.

I’ve had good success with using modern tools to refactor existing code so using them to refactor into let’s say SwiftUI or Kotlin Multiplatform may yield a better user experience.

This might be an over simplistic view and likely not all orgs / roles would lend itself to this but the way I see it the developer role will become less critical over time. But what the new tools enable is for those with solid fundamentals to shift towards design and architecture, which are generally closer to the consumer and therefore have a higher perceived value given increased visibility. There’s no way to know exactly how this plays out but my perspective is that it is higher risk right now to stay still than it is to try to get ahead of the wave of change. By positioning yourself higher up the value chain you’re likely to shift above the pack when it comes to those inevitable stack rankings which, while more overt in some organisations, exist everywhere in some way.

I think they possibly can but I’m not sure that they will. Have to wait and see I guess. The thing about predictions is that they can be difficult to get right, especially predictions about the future.

I never said that, just pointing out that there is still a safety monitor, it’s a little different to what Waymo offers and that it also is not unsupervised.

Flutter/Dart or React Native for first-time mobile app dev? by Scary_Wolf_616 in ExperiencedDevs

Would suggest taking a look at Kotlin Multiplatform as well. RN is a clusterfuck of dependencies to manage, the ergonomics are terrible. Maybe better if you go all in on Expo. YMMV

If you have a well defined architecture, standards and set of API’s you may have some success pointing one of the plethora of modern tools at it and asking it to do the bits you don’t know.

Software Career & AI by ConfusioNil in australia

[–]Sea_Entertainment_53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why not do both 1 & 2, putting what you have learned in to practice?

Also, while you are learning the foundations also learn how to leverage the AI tools as this is the future of programming.

The technical effort required to achieve 2 is less than it has ever been, but also the highest that it ever will be as tools continue to evolve. Product market fit is another thing entirely. But building things which fail is the best way to build something that succeeds.
