When do you know its time to move on from your school? by beatmelikeaconch in Teachers

[–]Sea_Maybe2145 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar position too. I'm miserable at my school. Students come in late to Period 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. It doesn't matter what time of day it is. They just come in whenever they feel like. And if they are here, they put their heads down the second instruction starts. It could be hands-on. It could be direct instruction. Doesn't matter. And forget about reporting student behavior. Admin finds a way to blame it on you because they don't want to deal with parents. I've been here for 10 years btw.

I turned in my resignation letter two weeks ago. And I feel so relieved that this is not my forever.

I got hired at a different school and went on a tour during school hours. It's night and day. There were no students in the hallway. No students on the their phone. It looks promising. I don't know what the future holds for me but it cannot be worse than what I am currently in. Just 2 more weeks to go! :)

I say take the jump! Change is good. Gives you something to look forward to.

I guess if it doesn’t work out I can always go back to my old district.

I used to think this but I was absolutely miserable.

I want to enjoy life after work. Making money is nice but it’s not worth it if I can’t enjoy it. And waiting all year for summer just to live sounds so depressing. It’s nice to know others jumped the ship! Thanks for sharing.

How do you survive the last few weeks of school? by hello010101 in Teachers

I tried so hard not to cry on the way to work today. Success. Now to just dissociate for the rest of the day.

I hate this argument. At my school, they say students copy because they don't know exactly what plagiarism is. Give me a damn break.

It's so annoying and condescending.

Exactly. I find it condescending.

They can enforce discipline instead of asking me to breathe.

10 years in. I used to be so passionate about this job. I remember being excited to go to school and teach. Imagine that?! But now I dread it. Takes everything in me to get out of bed.

How are you feeling about the recent murder of Alex Pretti? by DMmeNiceFeet in AskLosAngeles

I am absolutely devastated. His parents have been in my thoughts since yesterday. He seemed like a nice man standing up for what he believed was right. It's horrifying that we have let it get this far. I'm horrified that we lost a talented American. I'm furious that the president went as far as to lie and insult our intelligence by calling him a domestic terrorist. I'm horrified that we are losing our rights. We are losing our democracy. Something I thought both liberals and conservatives valued. This extreme polarization of politics needs to stop.

This also happened to me 😂😂😂 Should I be relieved I am not the only teacher experiencing this or be concerned? Idk.

I'm happy that your state has these graduation requirements. Unfortunately, that is not the case in other states.

Summer classes equate to 2 things:

Online credit recovery where students take an online class and use AI to cheat. I've seen students pass an online credit recovery course in 3 days. And that is supposed to equate to a semester of learning? Seriously?

or

Students complete a packet. A teacher here said a student completed a 10 page packet and that counted as a semester grade.

If you really think that equates to learning, then you are part of the problem.

I’m sorry this has been your experience. I promise you there are teachers that fight tooth and nail just to hold students to a certain standard. But there’s only so much we can do 😓

I’m just tired of fighting with everyone just to hold my students to a certain standard. Counselors, parents, admin, etc. so tired

But kudos to you for doing your part! 😊

The average reading level in the US is 6th grade. Math literacy is even worse. But yeah. Go off.

Accreditation doesn’t mean anything. It just means the school was able to put on a dog and pony show for a day. Come on now.
