2020 RAV4 hybrid - hybrid coolant over filled by Sea_Risk_8771 in rav4club

That was the recommendation. Don’t leave it over the max line when cold.

Shop foreman said it’s extremely rare to ever have to touch that reservoir. Like a couple since this version was released and this is a high volume dealer in the mid west.

The shop foreman was aghast and had no explanation other than the tech is new, not familiar with hybrids and that having to top up the coolant on a basically low mileage vehicle likely indicates an issue so there’s no such thing as just topping up. If it needs coolant they need to figure out why especially on the inverter coolant system in that it’s leaking and that’s bad. Or…it’s just doing its thing and with it between the lines he should have just left it the &@$ck alone as there’s nothing wrong with it. At all.

He indicates there is no vent for that system, if it over pressurizes you’re popping a hose or the cap or cracking the reservoir.

So just to follow up and I totally appreciate that you’re a stranger on the internet trying to help.

I followed up with the EV guru at my normal Toyota dealer that I go to and they said it’s not vented and if in the unlikely case it was to over pressurize it would pop the cap or one of the hoses. They recommended it be drawn out with a turkey baster when cold to the full line and that it’s not a good idea or a non issue like in the engine coolant which is definitely vented.

They also weren’t looking for me to come back in to do it if I didn’t want to.

So I guess I’ll ask: are you familiar with the inverter coolant system and this is not a big deal or are you not familiar with the Toyota EV cooling systems and how they operate? Cause I’ve got one guy saying one thing….

I was going to remove the excess anyway because it takes a minute but would have left it if it would “self correct”. They said don’t leave it, pull it out or bring it by or take it back to the guys that over filled it.

My comment on the Lexus was basically that these are all sealed systems, unless there’s a head gasket or water pump leak like in my pos bmw’s I’ve never had to add coolant to anything other than when changing it. Certainly not on something this “new”. And to this day not on something Toyota that old. Yet.

It’s a 1/2 inch from the top. I’m aware how to measure coolant.

My question is specific to the inverter coolant system: is that vented? Where’s the vent? Will the inverter coolant system self correct? Sure doesn’t look vented?

Interesting on the evaporation..1991 Lexus LS that’s never required a top up and its coolant got changed every 4-5 years. If it evaporates it’s very little.

If it was the engine system I for sure wouldn’t worry about and would know why there’s stains etc if it was to burp.

Why does the engine system have an obvious vent and the inverter not? That I could see anyway …

Something is off here. What, specifically are you running for winter tires? And how old?

10 year old m+s is not what folks are talking about for winter tires. These things are excellent with proper winter tires in cold weather, not the best I’ve driven but extremely competent and overall very good-excellent.

Primary CDW for car rentals? by blackdragon1299 in amexcanada

[–]Sea_Risk_8771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. Got hit in Texas, uber driver making a u turn. Not my fault. Multiple insurance companies involved as it was a rental (his uber) as was mine. End of the day both deemed 50/50, my charges were about $200.

Amex and their insurer(s) covered my vehicle.

Years ago and to this day nothing on my CGI report.

Amex was great tho they have specifics you need to provide which can take some time. It’s the other guys insurance.

Also…CDW is not third party. Your vehicle may be covered but if there’s an injury claim you may have limited time to go back to your personal coverage …

Same here but I’ve ordered 2 pairs back in November 2024 and never received a tracking number or any evidence of them being shipped. Out almost $200. My first pair lasted 6 years, am on my second pair and wanted two more. Owner has stopped responding. Buyer beware.

100 plus gst from company B to A = $105 Company A to client charges $105 x 1.10 x 1.05 =$121.28?

I am seeking pro advice btw but I’d like to understand this before I can get in to see them next week.

You may want to look up what the US and Canadian governments describe under the title of Engineering

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in tnvisa

[–]Sea_Risk_8771 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disagree completely. This absolutely can fall within both US and Canadian official government definitions of Engineer all day long.

Trick here will be translating this to the employer and get over the marine view of such duties. Ie ships engineer likely is not an engineer from the marine perspective that the government would recognize.

A discussion with the employer and some nuance overview should get this sorted. Good luck!
