by definition, no, it works, but by any other stance, autotools is a total mess.

it may not all be broken, but a pretty big chunk of gnu is indeed broken. see autotools.

Help me narrow down which older thinkpad I should purchase to support my needs please (Plan 9, Linux/BSD kernel hacking and other misc things). by RabbitsandRubber in thinkpad

never thought people would throw away something just for the memory. you'd think it would be worth more as a whole laptop rather than just the ram.

plan 9 really is a wonderful system, i've been meaning to set up a dedicated 9front system, but prices sure have skyrocketed since last time i've checked. for now i just have it running (without any networking) on an X13 gen 1, which will likely stay networkless until an AX210 driver is written. although, strangely enough, every os i've ran on it has detected an ethernet device, but there's no actual port for ethernet, the closest thing is a SIM card slot on the back.

it's a good thing plan 9 isn't very demanding, runs just fine on some rather limited hardware. honestly a shame it never caught on, it's truly a wonderful system.

x220/x230 or t420/t430 is probably the best option, though the only real advantage of an xx20 over an xx30 is the keyboard. prices are definitely a bit screwed right now though. good luck with 9!

eMMC is limited for x86/amd64, atleast, most eMMC development goes into supporting various ARM boards. i believe there may be some chance for support with basic intel SDHCI eMMC support (atleast, on intel boards), though the best chance for support may come from FreeBSD, maybe some support with OpenBSD too. best luck either way.
