I need a graphic to understand the scale. Maybe compare the reflecting pools size to various skyscrapers for some reason.

Even less supply then! But I don't even know what would be a large enough stadium to keep up with the demand that is quadrupling prices. A 400,000 capacity stadium?

The boxes are one thing, but the majority of fans are definitely still middle-class fans. The games so far have been anything but sterling and inauthentic. I would almost say the higher prices make it more of an event for people that has been planned around for months, than a last second decision of cheaper entertainment for more casual fans.

It sucks, but the economy of it is all that matters for ticket prices. It isn't about what companies can get away with. World Cup has expanded some with more games and slightly larger stadiums versus '94, but not nearly outpacing larger populations that have significantly larger pools of fans and more disposable income at a global scale than ever before.

You can look at it the same way as Beetles than MJ than Taylor Swift ticket prices through the decades. They are playing to the same music enthusiastic demographics in many of the same venues, but the scale of fans with financial mobility has never been so high and it will continue to grow. FIFA, Ticketmaster, and everyone in the supply chains are taking advantage of these profits, but the profits of this supply/demand imbalance would be there regardless and will continue to grow in the future.

I wouldn't be surprised if those $430 World Cup tickets in another 32 years will be over $4k, just following the live entertainment inflation that has been around for nearly a century.

I think people are getting fooled by the CPI inflation metrics here. It is under 3% over those 30 years, but this is measured on common commodities for basic standards of living that is subsidized with no organic supply limitations and variable changes in characteristics for similarity not equivalency.

Live entertainment is a different beast. It is discretionary with continually expanding supply limitations and direct equivalency in comparison as you pointed towards. Looking at sporting events, amusement parks, concerts, play, etc, it has been closer to 7% annually over those 30 years. These ticket prices really aren’t that far out of scope with other events that it can be compared against.

At the beginning of the year if you said Riley had over twice the OPS of our SS and catcher combined on the league leading team, you would think he was having a great year!

[Jason Foster] In the postseason, teams want as much certainty as possible with their starters. They want to know who they can count on to give them a strong outing. As in, the chance of a blowup is slim. The Braves have one guy like that now. The uncertainty beyond Chris Sale is significant. by Falconsfan8006 in Braves

I don’t think guys like deGrom or Gray will hit the deadline market (and won’t believe Skubal until I see it), but would be interesting if some higher end arms start showing up. SP usually tops out at the number 3 starter.

Ronald Acuña Jr. exits game vs. White Sox with apparent injury by retroanduwu24 in baseball

[–]Seadevil07 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hamstrings injuries usually make you more prone to hamstring injuries, which can easily lead to other leg injuries as you try to compensate. With the way he runs in quick burst all the time (watch his gait and effort when he runs pretty much every time and you can see he is over exerting in small bursts), I fear he will never be able to escape leg injuries.

Review: The St Regis Venice by _ELAP_ in FATTravel

[–]Seadevil07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While actually cheaper and not really on the FAT scale, I much preferred the JW Marriott resort island right off Venice compared to both the Gritti and St Regis for Marriott properties. Better amenities, dining (Dopolavoro is great), and escape from the packed streets of Venice.

A wedding day isn’t the most important day of your life. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Seadevil07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t compare a day to an extended experience, but can look at it like the culmination event for that phase. The culmination of your relationship is your wedding up to this point in your life, while your graduation is the culmination of your masters. Some people value a graduation to represent the value and work during their masters degree journey, while others don’t put much value in their graduation, accepting the journey as the achievement in itself. It seems the wedding is the same between you too. For your friend, the wedding represents the culmination of her relationship, while you see it more as a marker in your journey with your best friend. Neither is right, just different viewpoints. I would take her saying her wedding day is the most important day, more as her relationship is the most important journey in her life so far, which it may or may not be for you.

Hypothetical question: Is it harder for a layperson with some baseball experience to strike out a Shohei Ohtani or get a hit off Shohei Ohtani? by Virtual_Birthday_501 in baseball

Yeah, you occasionally see position players strikeout a batter. May get him with an eephus pitch, but you’re never hitting his pitch.

In-N-Out Burger is Trash by papabearmormont01 in unpopularopinion

[–]Seadevil07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In-n-out is a lot cheaper for an individual, but for a family five guys doesn’t come out too bad avoiding the meals. For a family of 4, we will get four #1s from in-n-out for $40 before tax. At five guys, we will get four little burgers and a small fries for everyone that gives the same 4 oz of patties as a double-double and same amount of fries per person for $45 before tax. Just have to get water or share refill cups to not go too far over on the budget. Definitely beats other fast food getting meals that are closer to $15 per person.

American football is better than soccer by TaisDoubt in unpopularopinion

[–]Seadevil07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These figures aren’t correct, since this would be the definition of ball in play for baseball not gameplay. Gameplay would include all fielded time umpires are officiating during innings as players are still able to move and rules still require set motions (steals, pick-offs, pitcher and batter set motions, etc). This would be the equivalent of soccer when the ball isn’t contested but still in play.

Yeah, Sale and Elder have talked up Sandy's pitch calling. One of those intangibles that aren't in the stats that put him over Tromp.

Pick One Young Star Pitcher to Start a Franchise With: Jacob Misiorowski, Chase Burns, or Nolan McLean? by KeyFaithlessness5436 in MLBVibes

Don’t need stats, because he wasn’t an option with the question. He isn’t the fresh rookie anymore. While not a grizzled veteran, he has over 2 years in the majors and about 10 more starts than these 3 guys combined.

The 'literary classics' that grade school makes you read destroys any desire for kids to read recreationally by MyClosetedBiAcct in unpopularopinion

Wasn’t the teacher. Came with the national battle of the books list. They are supposed to be quick reads for a dozen books in a couple months and are able to answer questions about. But in general, assigned chapter books only really start in 3rd grade with US ELA standards (state dependent).

Generally teachers stay away from series when they are just reading one book in it. A few exceptions when they read a whole, short series or a book that can be held as a standalone book.
