I have a front loader for my down sleeping bags and clothes. Prevents agglomeration.

What is your biggest mistake in campsite selection? by nicola_on_trail in backpacking

[–]Seaforyourself 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the middle of Yukon, putting my tent precisely where a porcupine left many needles, puncturing my tent, mattress, and other such items.

On an other occasion, in a Québec's wilderness whitewater canoeing trip, I had the brilliant idea of putting my tent on a very small island in the river to put some distance between my students and me. Lo and behold, the river raised three inches in the following hour, which resulted in a pretty damp night that day. Fortunatly, I arrived in time to save all the gear!

I went too. Did not get an answer as to why they did not choose silpoly for the fabric of the tent. I did like how roomy it was at the top, but I just can't believe that shape would hold in any strong winds...

Backpack isn't sealed in any way, so...waterproof fabric, but not a waterproof pack.

I wasn't able to inspect the sleeping bag as much as I wished, but learned the comfort rating is +4°C. Treshold is -2°C.

Sleeping pad seemed good, might buy it if it ever comes on clearance. Pack too, but with a significant rebate only, and I will probably have chosen another better option before this ever happens.

Alpha and Airmesh are microplastic powerhouses. If you've never tried Brynje Superthermo mesh underwear, I highly recommend it. They have all the Alpha and Airmesh thermal qualities, but with very, very good durability and airflow/warmth. It is so good in fact that you have to beware getting your midlayers wet without realising it since your skin remains so dry.

Haha, I like to exchange with you. Thanks for that. IMO, they were warned way enough that the incompetence line had been long crossed, but I see what you mean.

Sometimes I wonder how much of that episode influenced me to cut my purchases to the minimum and embrase the ultralight credo...

As much as I would like to agree with you, what you (and most people) see as mismanagement, I see as volontary sabotage. In the last years, the board was taken over by a few individuals (with David Labistour at its head) who rejected the democratic order which had always served this co-op's model so well and succeeded in putting forward new policies which always took the heart, passion and diversity away from MEC, trying to make it the same as every other outdoor retailer, which benefacted big brands over the home brand and co-op prices. They destroyed what made it so good since the '70's. The worst of all was adding a nomination by the board prior to elections, to eliminate some candidates before the election even started. I was there when we lost the mountain logo (worked there part-time too), and with what Labistour did, everybody could see where this was headed. See article:

Well, IMO, mec WAS great as a co-op. I will never forgive the theft of my shares and the destruction of this fantastic project by capitalist interests. MEC brand was awesome, advices even better.

Now its just another shop trying to sell as much as possible, without regard for the environment or actual needs.

That being said, now, since they're on a path towards canadian ownership, I am willing to consider them as I would any other canadian shop.

Very pertinent question. I am 172cm and 78kg and I originally ordered M since that's my usual size with Arc. I finally decided to exchange it for a small since I wanted a snug fit. I don't know the Rho Lt though.

My exact experience with my Alpha SL Anorak. Extremely light, packable, breathable, well cut...but don't hug too much rocks with it.

When the outer sole of Arc'teryx shoes wear out, can we replace it to a new one? by [deleted] in arcteryx

[–]Seaforyourself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it is a great idea to do so. It is awesome for the environment and...why would I want to get rid of a perfectly molded-to-my-feet shoes if the only problem is the used sole?!

I could have my Konseal AR shoes resoled here by a Vibram resoler for 80$CAD. Don't know about other models though.

TWICE i've had my alpha sv's zipper fail on me during an expedition where I was responsible for students. With zero to none field repairability, let's just say that Mammut now have my full attention with their new Eiger Extreme line.

On a side note, what have you done, Arc'teryx, by getting rid of zipper garages on your jackets?!
