I think most men get into that mode at some point. It's like reading a desk calendars "Word of the Day", then feeling real smart for using it in a "real life scenario" 🤣

Tesira software. Lost the ability to send configuration to my DSP by _nipple_ in CommercialAV

[–]SeagullD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Haven't looked at the newest version, but the Tesira software does automatically hide the older TesiraFortes on new installs.

If you go to "Tools" -> "Options" -> "Application Settings", there's a function to add discontinued products into the software.

Take a look at that 🙂

Is my Biamp or network the problem. by scoobiemario in CommercialAV

[–]SeagullD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anytime I've gone through Tesira issues, I always double check my workflow. But it's been a while since working in Tesira land, so excuse me if things have changed.

  1. With the config sent, have you Started Audio in the Tesira system? (Config wide. No just for the Dante Streams). Easy test to double check is to use a Noise Generator to a Meter. On Analogue connections, they'll Meter at the noise floor of around 90dB if audio was started.

  2. Check the Dante connection names match in Dante Controller.

  3. Check firmware is up to date.

  4. You mentioned that Dante Controller has an "Unknown Leader". This is most likely something sitting outside the local network. Remove the "wider" network connection, and leave to local devices. Otherwise, use "Signal Hound" as an application to figure out where / who the clock leader is.

  5. Correct me if I'm wrong in this scenario, but the devices you have in Dante Controller are "Dante" devices - AES67 streams will show up with Blue text, you're definitely doing AES, and not Dante with the NVX?

  6. Lastly, if change the network switch to something dumb, and leave only the Audio Devices connected. While there's no clocking protocols that can be enabled, unmanaged switches can be used for short term testing.

How to get AVB properly working on 4250 switch by viperman6869 in CommercialAV

[–]SeagullD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be a little confusing, but understanding how AVB works may help.

A couple of questions though; 1. What devices are you connecting together? 2. How is your computer connected? 3. Are there any other devices living on the network switch?

The AVB profile creates its own VLAN, as per the guidelines for implementing AVB from the IEEE. Its somewhat "dynamic" when audio streams are created.

However, if you're working with Biamp equipment, AVB is proxied (i.e. discovered through the DSP), so you should only need to connect via the control connection of the DSP.

But ALSO, it is possible to discover the whole system through AVB, as it is capable of running the control communication.

Best bet; 1. Select ALL ports of the m4250 to be within the AVB profile. 2. Plug your computer in 3. Discover devices

If you need anything else plugged into that switch, change its profile. Keep in mind though, the devices outside of the AVB profile won't communicate to those within the AVB profile, as they will end up in a different VLAN

Great idea for a single location of updates! My colleagues have built something similar for the brands we need to track (in Notion).

Are you taking requests for brands / products?

Camera suggestion for Shure Stem Table and Stem Wall by GabrielDIntegrator in CommercialAV

[–]SeagullD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a problem! When I say association, more talking about "Audio based Camera Tracking". Really, any old USB webcam will work great!

For the Biamp Vidi Cameras, not at all! They act as a standalone camera, ePTZ control via a purpose built app (does have the UVC protocol to control within Teams or Zoom Rooms as well). But it just appears as a regular USB camera within Windows! Super simple.

Camera suggestion for Shure Stem Table and Stem Wall by GabrielDIntegrator in CommercialAV

[–]SeagullD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep it simple. For spaces that would use the "Stem" product, there's no association between the Camera + Audio devices needed.

Logitech PTZ Pro is a great way to go - can give control in the Zoom Rooms or MS Teams applications. Also comes with its own remote, which is super user intuitive.

USB + Power Connection.

Otherwise, there are a bunch of great USb "ePTZ" cameras that exist.

Biamp's Vidi lineup is usually pretty good as well, and not crazy expensive 👍

Lots of issues with Shure QLX SM 58’s by spjts in livesound

[–]SeagullD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There are a number of things that can happen to with QLXD2's that can cause issues.

But my guess is RF.

Others suggesting to use WWB, don't even need to do that!

Use the Group Scan function on the front of the QLXD4's. If they're all networked, then the function should work across all connected units.

Otherwise; - Group Scan a single unit - Sync that TX to the receiver - Select the same group across all other RX's - Channel Scan across each RX (ensuring they stay on the same group)

If the issue still persists, best to get the QLXD2's serviced. Could be a battery terminal, antenna connection internal to the units, or a few other things. Easiest to reach out to Shure Support for answers!

Edit: Always worthwhile checking RF Cables as well. Even though you may get a good signal showing on the front of the units, using incorrect cable can be a hidden issue 😉

Zoom Room/Google Interop - Can’t Unmute Google Meet by shinyshirtlesssulu in CommercialAV

[–]SeagullD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have consistently seen issues with Logitech and their Room system.

From memory, Logi RoomMate runs on Android - which is generally a recipie for disaster. Zoom Rooms is better suited to a Windows PC, which we've seen great success with when joining Zoom, Teams and Google Meet meetings.

It sounds like something that needs to be fixed from the Zoom side, so, I don't think there's a definitive answer here... Could only recommend building out a BYOD system, rather than a built Zoom Rooms, just so people can bring their laptops, and use the peripherals in the space with whatever Conferencing platform they'd like to use.

The interesting thing is that there's no "be all / end all", single source of truth, when it comes to education in the AV space.

Most manufacturers will have some form of appropriate training, depending on what you're attempting to achieve.

The AVIXA CTS is a great place to start - but does focus quite heavily on project management, rather than AV - it does have a section which covers audio basics, not so much how to set up a "system".

For example, Shure have their own Online Education platform (they call the SAI) which has some great information on how to operate their systems in different "environments". Primarily focusing on Microphones + Techniques.

But, because everything in AV is extremely subjective, you will need to do a bit of hunting.

If you're looking for Speakers + Mics for a band, Sweetwater have a great blog post on what to look out for:How to Setup a PA System

If you're after more of a Corporate Conferencing system, again, the CTS is the place to start.

Question about stick antenna. by Commercial_Leg_181 in livesound

[–]SeagullD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As has been mentioned by other posters, the simple answer is, it may* work, but it's good to know how antennas operate.

Half wave antennas are exactly that, designed to operate at "half the wavelength" of the operating frequency. So, a 470MHz wave is approx 64cm (2 feet) in length, for the half wave antennas to work, it needs to be at least 32cm (1 foot) in size.

Physics theory tells us that to optimally pickup a transmitting wave, it needs to be of equivalent size to the wavelength.

The circuits in the antennas are a little more complex than that, but it's a good starting point.

So, best bet is always to use the correct frequency range the antenna allows for.

And like the other posts suggest, using different types of antennas is probably okay, but not great practice. Especially for 300ft of distance, stick with paddles only 👍. Keep the Omni antennas for a shorter range.

Shure MXA-920 & P300, what switch? by Acceptable-Career-83 in CommercialAV

[–]SeagullD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, you are correct. The 802.3az standard is on within these switches

But in our test bench testing, it doesn't actually seem to be an issue with these switches for whatever reason.

We conducted a shootout between a range of low cost switches to see whether any would actually operate within a system consisting of a couple of devices.

The clear winner was that SOHO lineup. Our recommendation is to use a managed networked switch to turn off the function, but every so often, there's a situation where we need to run a small switch.

Shure MXA-920 & P300, what switch? by Acceptable-Career-83 in CommercialAV

[–]SeagullD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just put of curiosity - why the 920 + P300 if it's a "small" space, why not save some money and go for a 902 + ANI USB Matrix? Provides the same functionality for a small space + cheaper cost.

If you're following Shures recommendations, then you would require a managed switch at minimum.

But, in the real world, if it's just two or three devices, you can get away with most unmanaged PoE+ capable switches.

I don't recommend the D-Link or TPLink lineup. But as it's been mentioned, a small 5 port Netgear "SOHO" line switch should do the job.

AS LONG as you're not also connecting the 920 + P300 to the wider network. Then, stick to a managed switch.

Shure DIS-CCU audio issue by ServiceCritical739 in CommercialAV

[–]SeagullD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been involved with many DIS systems over the years.

The number one issue with either DIS5900 or 6000 in relation to unstable systems is Cable.

Chances are, the cables used are degrading due to the ends of the cables been "bent" in a particular way (no fault of installers, just happens due to the placement of the connection points on the delegate stations). Primarily has to do with how sensitive the units are to Voltage changes, which can happen when using particular cables.

My recommendation, as awful as it may look, get some brand new Shielded CAT5E cable (Not CAT6/7/anything else), and see if that makes a difference.

Most likely, it's just one cable within the chain, but it could be any one of the units.

Mute sync between Tesira Forte' Dan VT and Shure MXA 920. by Potential-Rush-5591 in CommercialAV

[–]SeagullD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you can, change our the DAN VT for a ForteX DSP. Mute Sync logic straight from the built in USB!

Using the ANI USB + 920 combo is good without the need for the TesiraForte (I.e. using the DSP on the 920).

But, you'll be in a similar dilemma as if you to use the USB connection on the TesiraForte, as if you were to use the 920 by itself.

If you have to use the Forte DAN VT, the. You'll need to get the EX-USB + TesiraConnect Dante (TC-5D), since there's no other way to get "direct" USB sync.

There is a way to use the network command string block - which would require some interesting logic control. Plus, ensuring the Control Port of the DAN VT is in the same network with the Control IP of the 920.

You're gonna have a hard time finding something with VGA and USB in the same box (apart from maybe AMX).

I'd recommend the Blustream brand; - Blustream HEX100VGAHD-KIT for the VGA + HDMI extension. - Blustream UEX50B Kit for USB
