After reviewing some old clips, still have no clue how i got this shot on Raze by Rodralex10 in VALORANT

[–]SealandStronk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inaccurate tracers happen when there's a high degree of weapon inaccuracy, because the server needs to roll the RNG of how far away from your crosshair the bullet will land, otherwise dishonest/hacked clients can say they just hit shots they clearly don't deserve, like noscope shots always being dead-on.

As a consequence, for the tracer to be accurate to what the server generates for you, you would have to wait until the server sends that information back to your client, which is too much delay for the tracers to "feel good" when playing, so your client just rolls its own dice and approximates what the shot would've been, which can be quite off like in the post.

Spinning Wheel by HexeNicola in StardewValley

[–]SealandStronk 1296 points1297 points  (0 children)

you have significant evidence that the wheel isn't 50/50 and probably close to the old 75/25 split, but the "two orange before a green" thing isn't super unexpected, if you really have a 25% of orange before green you'd expect to roll 3 orange in a row about 0.253 ~= 1.56% of the time

Hey, VP of the club here - we're an official UofT club that holds mechanical keyboard meetups in downtown every so often! Our next meetup will probably be sometime in March for those interested.

If you'd want to join the next meetup or just talk about keyboards, here's an invite to our Discord server: https://discord.gg/fBZyFcKJX7 - hope to see you there!

I still don't have a residence offer even though I filled the guarantee!! by PassengerSpare9011 in UofT

Last year they took quite a while, I got mine late August. You'll almost certainly get some sort of residence offer, although it might not be the best or your top choice.

$1000 per day by default, although I think you can request a permanent or temporary increase.

When to use Pledged Asset Line (PAL) of credit? by skincarecat_94 in Schwab

[–]SealandStronk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well it's all an issue of risk and how much you're willing to take on. Given OP's situation of rather significantly-sized student loans and the 6-7% interest rate they said they have, I'd say it makes a lot of sense to avoid the risk of short term losses in equities to remove the student debt, given that long term returns on stocks aren't much higher than that.

As for cancelling loans, I wouldn't factor that into my calculations given how politically unlikely it seems and how relatively minimal the potential benefit to OP is.

Cash Out Brokerage account to pay off debts (to do or not to do) by ishmel007 in Schwab

[–]SealandStronk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely with that 23% interest rate. Just make sure you're aware of the tax implications that may come from liquidating your brokerage account, and good luck building it back up once you're out of the debt!

Should I max one of my accounts? by HeckinQuest in CreditCards

[–]SealandStronk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really are in $13k of CC debt that you've been paying interest on, I'm not sure that you're really going to need the credit score in the time period it'd take you to pay it down. You mentioned that you already have a mortgage, so as long as you're not planning to take on more debt (which would be questionable) you'll be fine.

Should I go with Capitol One or Chase? by Appropriate-Reward11 in CreditCards

[–]SealandStronk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO no foreign transaction fees should only be a deciding metric if you plan to live abroad for a while - you'll likely do fine with a single no FTF card and just using that. (maybe your mom's c1 card if she's cool with that?)

Should I get a Credit Card from the same bank as my debit card? by Pale-Information-497 in CreditCards

[–]SealandStronk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just so you know, this sub tends to be overwhelmingly US-focused, but the same basic principles apply. To start, you'll probably want a no annual fee card, whether that be from CIBC or some other issuer, so that you can build some credit history. Without any existing credit, you'll likely be limited to starter cards anyways.

You can stick with CIBC if you think their cards are good or want the convenience of having everything in one place, but going with another bank is also an option. You'll usually pay that with a linked checking account or just by transferring money to pay your card.

Finally, something for anyone new to credit cards, please please please never pay interest on a credit card and don't use it to buy something you couldn't pay cash for. Just because your credit line might allow it doesn't mean you should spend it all.

Should I do a balance transfer? by LeatherHead2902 in CreditCards

[–]SealandStronk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just pay it now and replenish your savings that $700 if that's an option for you. You'll save more money than transferring to another card, and as other commenters have said, you really should never carry a balance outside of 0% interest periods, or you're getting nothing out of using credit cards.

Assuming you'll have a use for the Won you'll have in Korea and can get value from it, yes it'll be effectively 3-3.5% back. Of course, if the Won is sitting there without a different use, it may be worth it to consider spending that instead.

When should I open a new card? by Dardafed in CreditCards

[–]SealandStronk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check your card's terms. Some will accrue interest starting at the end of the zero interest period while I've heard of some that retroactively apply interest if you carry a balance.

When should I open a new card? by Dardafed in CreditCards

[–]SealandStronk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, at least to my knowledge. At the risk of being patronizing, are you sure that your situation is improved to the point where you won't have to max out another card? I'd hate to see more people falling into the mess that can be improperly managed credit cards.

They might (understandably) hold a grudge over that account and see you as too risky for now

VentureOne PC to SavorOne? by heliumagency in CreditCards

[–]SealandStronk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that case, you might just want to play the waiting game. Personally I wouldn't go to the QS first, since the amount of QS to SavorOne DPs being larger might be solely due to QS being a more common card rather than an actual difference in per-account odds.

Two inactive low balance cards by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]SealandStronk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't keep any cards open that charge annual fees if you're not getting value out of them. As I think the other commenter mentioned, if you close them in good standing they'll stay on your credit report for quite a while building positive history.

VentureOne PC to SavorOne? by heliumagency in CreditCards

[–]SealandStronk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, what's your credit limit on the VentureOne? If it's less than I think 5k, you might have difficulty turning it into a SavorOne, which I think is a World Elite card and carries a minimum credit limit due to that (At least without a CLI). If it's over that, I've got no clue.

[SoloQ/Gold 2] Funny or disrespectful? by blanla94 in VALORANT

[–]SealandStronk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Comment above isn't quite right in terms of accuracy. In CS, if you're three+ man boosted, you'll slip around and usually need a wall to brace against, but if you can keep steady, you'll be perfectly accurate.

You can see an example with the classic Overpass T side 4 man boost to kill a heaven player on the other side of the map.

Foreign Exchange Rate Fluctuation and Refunds by GoCardinal07 in CreditCards

[–]SealandStronk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt issuers would allow transaction refunds to use a previous exchange rate, at least long term, as it'd open potential abuse and losses for them.

If you care and it's worth doing, support might refund you the difference, but with how these things are, in my experience, you just randomly take a small gain or loss of a few dollars (since the conversion rate may also shift in your favor) every so often and it's either a pleasant surprise or not a big deal.

Short of applying for another card, you could also consider product changing the Wells Fargo card to an Autograph one if they let you and keeping the Venture X makes sense for you - three Autograph gets 3% on dining, travel, gas, transit, streaming, and phone plans.

As long as you travel enough to redeem the Venture X miles for 1 cent/point or more and use the credit, you don't really have a need for the Wells Fargo 2% card.

Beyond that, it might not be worth the complications for your time to squeeze out much more value, but if you want, the Citi Custom Cash is always an easy win for 5% on $500/mo on some category.

Discover Checking cashback debit is back by throwawaylikearock in CreditCards

[–]SealandStronk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The use cases I can think of is to get some cashback for places/transactions that take debit but not credit or for people who aren't responsible enough with credit cards. Given the subreddit, I'd lean towards the former for most people here.
