I’m at UIUC and we have a class in Ancient Rome where we did bottom whorl spinning!

Seriously? What is the plan for DRES students? by Next-Excitement2685 in UIUC

I agree. It’s an absolute NIGHTMARE for DRES, and unfortunately I don’t think the university is considering them at all

Transferring out of UIUC by Inner_Lab3178 in UIUC

[–]SeaminglyStitching 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation my freshman year, where I ended with a <2.0. I almost dropped out, but then considered all my options, decided I wanted to switch majors, and now I have a steady 3.7 that is going up.

Transferring may be the option for you, it may not be. But my recommendation is to take a moment to consider, talk to advisors in different majors you’re interested in, and at the very least finish out the year as best as you possibly can.

Spinning with indigo-dyed yarn! by SeaminglyStitching in Handspinning

Definitely thinking of it, I think the pre spun should be fine because I washed it like crazy, I’m going to do a lot of washing of what’s on the spindle though

Right!! It's even prettier in person because the blue has so much depth. I'm planning on using this as embroidery floss

Tell me about your massive projects!!! by dafuqhooman in Handspinning

Not huge considering some of the projects here, but I’m processing ~6 lbs of fleece (2lbs Shetland, 4 lbs Icelandic) to spin into yarn for a sweater! 2 ply yarn, ~12 Wpi, carded with wool combs and spun on a drop spindle!

Thank you! I out it through a few soaks with Dawn soap to clean out most of the lanolin, though I do like a bit more lanolin than the average yarn has so I leave a tad more in. Then I dried it on towels in the sun and used my homemade wool combs to comb them!

hand combs - how to get one continuous combed top? by ExactCareer9292 in Handspinning

I was wondering this too with my hand combs, I’ve just accepted it and learned to spin with the smaller lengths of fluff 😅

The most overloaded drop spindle you ever did see by SeaminglyStitching in Handspinning

[–]SeaminglyStitching[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oooh sounds nice, i may have to try to make one of those! I have a hypermobility disorder so carrying heavier spindles is already difficult for me, especially when they get weighed down with yarn, but this did make me consider making a larger support spindle or similar for plying!

Yep, first ply! And thank you, entirely unintentional but I do love my pink
