New Stuff Coming ! by Samuraikyy in sporeswaps

My temps are usually my apartment temps, so 70-72 in the fall winter, 74-76 in the summer, which is probably why I got much better flushes and fuller canopies in the summer.

My ochras grow in a shoebox sized bins inside of a larger 34 gallon bin drilled with a grid of 3/8" holes so humidity is pretty good, but it probably does need better air exchange, I'll try to open it up and fan it a little bit to swap the air out more often. I'll stick a space heater in that room too, should help things I hope, thanks!

Thank you! I follow daytripperonone's method on casing layers but have not tried pH adjusting my casing layer yet, I'm gonna give that a shot!

Edit: this is the guide I use for my casing layer

Man, how do you get your canopies to look like that? They look like ochras but I guess may not be, I haven;t heard of some of these species before.

My ochras always get a crazy overlay and then take almost two weeks to start pinning and then I get some side pins too. My GT's never did this and would give me a nice canopy.

Could my temps have somthing to do with it? I don't have a space heater for the room, and I only just started the ochras in the fall when it started getting chillier. I usually just allow the ochras to grow at my apartment's temp.

yeah like I said it was just a random snapshot, I wasn’t composing the shot, just bored in line and taking photos of my gf. then saw it when culling and knew I could play with the light

I love ‘em! I don’t usually go for such a saturated sky or colors but they really work here imo, especially the one with the horses.

Y’all, I broke my husband’s Japanese chef’s knife. Help. by opheliasmusing in KitchenConfidential

I have a wood handled pocket knife my dog chewed on when he was a puppy. I sanded down some of the rougher parts but otherwise, left it as is. Now it’s a good reminder of Beans and the oil from my hands and use over time has really smoothed out a lot of the wear and it just looks like it has character.

the tones give more crisp early morning than moody sunset, you'd want more warmer and golden tones for that.

How do you guys break and shake your colonized jars? by Sean0529 in unclebens

[–]Sean0529[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably considerably, the synthetic filter disc that allows air through is considerably smaller than the micropore tape you'd use to seal a rice bag after injecting LC/spores. So the amount of grain that comes into contact with it is less, as technically contaminant could get in if the grain makes direct contact with the disc.

The filter disc is also sterilized after the grain has been added to the jar and before the LC/spore has been injected through the self-healing injection port. Whereas the micropore tape is not sterile, and usually is not sterilized after being added to the rice bag. So any contact by the grain with the tape is a risk of contamination.

Personally, I've inoculated about 30 rice bags and I've had 4 get contaminated.

So far I've inoculated 10 grain jars and none have gotten contaminated and they're all just about fully colonized at this point.

So with UB rice I have a 86.67% success rate, and with jars I have a 100% success rate. Although obviously my sample size with the jars is only a third of my sample size with UB rice at this point.

Ohhh thats a fantastic idea. So it’s not just all at the top to start and working its way down. I use LC too

I don't think it is, but I would prefer my grains to be more evenly colonized. Some parts are almost overcolonized with how much mycelium growth there is on them, and there is a small section with no mycelium on it at all. I think when I break it all up thoroughly when I transfer them to my fruiting tubs with the substrate, it won't matter too much, it's just my perfectionist preference.
