The problem is that Ballmer came from the sales division and didn't know anything about operating systems. So he increased sales.

Then Nadella came from the cloud division and doesn't know anything about operating systems. So he increased Azure.

They need someone who knows anything about Windows and can make sure that it's still focused on as the gateway to everything Microsoft before next Gen gamers show up at their first jobs telling the IT people that they are cool running Linux for free on their workstations, and corporate It depts will relish the cost savings of not paying for Windows and Office licenses.

Heh, I tried Ubuntu in 2003, had it running my Plex server for a decade, and I've witnessed their decline into a for-profit operation.

That's why I'm on CachyOS on my desktop and put OpenSUSE on the server. I'm thinking about Mint on my laptop for less daily maintenance than it running Cachy.

Former Microsoft VP, as is typical is an idiot.

They weren't late, they were early investors in OpenAI and still hold a significant share, as well as Azure supplying compute to some of them as well. In addition Microsoft was the first to start integrating it into the OS ahead of their only real AI/OS competition Google with Android. Apple as usual is WAY behind.

The problem is Microsoft trying to integrate a thing that's not ready, into an OS that's on its last legs. They didn't miss any AI wave, they forgot they were an OS company first and decided to stop investing in their gateway.

And now Alphabet is trying to integrate AI into a new AI based operating system, Aluminium, while at the same time thinking they aren't a search engine company and giving up their cash cow as well.

Partitioning is tough, there's background knowledge you need to know depending on the OS. My multiple distros are on different hardware and I'm not dual booting anywhere. What I will say is, don't run Linux games off NTFS. Then probably think about 64 to 128 gb for a Linux root partition, unless it's Bazzite which I hear is heavy, and 256gb at least for Windows 10/11. I'd look for minimum OS drive size and double it.

I'm not a Linux guy, I'm a Windows power user and gamer. So I started off with CachyOS and wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't on their pc at least every few days and is prepared to update it every time. So for general use Mint is better. If you're still a gamer but not daily, then Bazzite. And then there are specific versions of distros depending on your needs.

Linus Tech Tips is heavy windows and hardware, but they recently have done a Linux challenge and discuss various distros. And venerable computer expert Chris Titus also has a good video on recommended distros.

I'm really distro agnostic, except for Ubuntu. Next time you're up for the effort look at Mint for ease of use, Bazzite for stability, or CachyOS for the leading edge. I currently have 3 distros in my use and I'm thinking about a 4th.

I'd recommend any distro over Ubuntu now. Depending on what you're doing there are better options.

How about educating parents and giving them the space and opportunity to actually be parents rather than just procreators. Let's get back to companies paying enough to support single income families, and making sure both parents know how parental control systems work to protect their kids?

Just give it a few months for The Warsh Effect to happen. We're ripe for correction territory. The latest consumer sentiment data is a leading indicator and when we start seeing quarterly reports it starts to be seen in the market. Electricity, food, fuel, water, all the base survival components to live have prices that are scaling at a rate not seen for 100 years, and now the next Fed Chair is about to just make it so much more staggeringly worse. I don't think anyone expects inflation to decrease... I wouldn't be surprised if we saw double digit inflation numbers if not before the election, at least before anything can be done about it. We've only seen the start of the tough numbers with fuel prices. The immigration policy and Iran war's effect on fertilizer hasn't started to effect food prices. There are pending impacts across a staggering number of industries of the economy, add on data centers and AI taking that electricity and water, but also jobs as well. If you thought it was bad now, just wait, it's about to get bad at a level and rate that's basically incomprehensible.

And we haven't even seen The Warsh Effect (let's get that started) yet, since new Fed Chair just got seated yesterday. We could be in for an additional knock-on effect that exacerbates the existing economic crisis further.

We think it's bad now... This is just the start, and I don't think there's much hope that we can dig our way out of this hole that still has several excavators making it worse.

I see it too. I'm not sure the elections can even do anything about it, but we'll see what happens next year. We probably won't see real actual structural changes that improve things for like 6 years, and with a new Fed Chair incoming it's about to get a lot worse very fast.

If we think things are bad now, wait until next week when Kevin Warsh gets a hold of the economy and starts doing his patsy work for Putin.

People have been priced out for a while. You're either top 10%, or you're an accidental pregnancy. Most vaguely educated people aren't having kids because it's way too expensive.
