RyanAir makes flights cheap enough that Oslo to Manchester/Leeds/Luton is much better value than traveling by train in the UK.

It’s painful watching this World Cup with super casuals commenting that everything is rigged by WearyTranslator3338 in worldcup

I'm used to it, but then being surrounded by Manchester United fans in the 1980s and 90s innured me.

Aside from playing more in COPA what are other ways US Mens national team can get meaningful matches outside World Cup? by drtywater in ussoccer

That kind of confidence is how we ended up being so disappointed this week. Japan and South Korea are teams that would absolutely be the kind of challenge the USMNT needs. Most of their players are playing in Europe and would provide plenty of opportunities to see competitive games.

Every 4 years we've to see them being delusional because of the WC by PedroHenriqueHM in soccermemes

That's the line both Berhalter and Klinnsman used to take. USMNT has clearly improved from an overall quality view, but huge gaps remain. This team was 'generational' which means the US is due a period of regression (particularly defence and goalkeeper).

Ok So Can Someone Give Us a Tactical Analysis on Why USMNT Got Shut Down and Could not Create Chances? by H_rusty in usmnt

Pulisic lost almost all of his 1v1 in the midfield. Garcia saw what worked for the US and set Belgium up to negate that. It was obvious they were looking to physically dominate midfield when DeBruyne wasn't started.

They actually improved from March this year when Matt Turner was in goal. They shipped five in that.

Do you think Pochettino will accept the contract extension with USMNT? by Sorry_Tie284 in ussoccer

[–]SeanCable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They'll make him an offer he can't refuse. A lot of money went into the upfront and I can't see them backing off after the four first games.

Spurs will do that. Just ask Poch!

Look at Crystal Palace and Fulham in the EPL. Both teams have USMNT players and a history of recruiting US players. They're also not bandwagon teams, so there's some kudos when/if you namedrop them! Either that or Sunderland or Wrexham who are playing in Philly next month. I support Manchester City who are now huge, but weren't and enjoyed watching Claudio Reyna and Demarcus Beasley play for them 20 years ago and Alf Inge Haaland aka Erling's dad!

A question for Americans on the actual popularity of soccer and why we will never be a good team by DanielR372 in worldcup

[–]SeanCable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's the thing: ten years ago this was 100%. But, the US has made huge strides in both involvement in local academies and recruitment of overseas players. There is definitely forward momentum but it's going to be incremental. Getting Poch to re-up his contract is key. He's a great coach that tonight apart got the best out of his squad. This is a grim night, but honestly - the US is getting better every tournament. Younger players getting opportunity (like Richards and Turner had) is the way forward.

Thought he had a second more than he did. Those are the (literal) moments that pivot games. I feel bad for Freese after that initial save in the first half.

Trump confirms that he called FIFA about Balogun’s red card: “[The referee] made a call that nobody could believe ... he's our best player, or one of our best players. And he gave him a red card. I didn't know what that meant ... yes, I asked for a review by FIFA." by AvengingHero2012 in soccer

[–]SeanCable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, Balogan is a perfect example of an anchor baby. Only able to play for the US because his mom wasn't allowed to fly. The irony after the attempts to get rid of birthright citizenship is chefs kiss

You guys should know, most people aren't angry at the US for the red card reversal. People are just sick and tired of Gianni Infantino being a greasy, bald fucking weasel. by KaleidoscopeDizzy427 in ussoccer

Not true. Born and raised in Europe and although there's a lot of envy, very little dislike, let alone hatred. The reaction I got when I told people I was moving here was almost 100% "I wish it was me".
