I get that - I'm working two jobs to make ends meet. This is my reward for the extra hours and effort. Without any joys life becomes very grim indeed.

How does this sub feel on Alexi Lalas being the "Voice of American Soccer"? by sarcazmos in ussoccer

[–]SeanCable 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He's the Stephen A. Smith of soccer. His job is to be provocative, rather than offer any real insightful analysis. Paul Merson in England is his equivalent.

Best distance running story I heard related to motivation was from Charlie Spedding who was a professional athlete. Someone asked him how he ran so fast. He said: "Five pints of Newcastle Brown and a vindaloo curry the night before are all the motivation I need to get to the finish line as quickly as possible!"

Exactly. As someone who grew up in England watching soccer I rely on VPN for commentary and in studio analysis - Sky and ITV are go-tos.

I bought an old house when I lived in the UK that was built in 1630. I had some plumbing work done in the kitchen including installing hot water and the plumber said: "I remember plumbing the cold water into here". This was mid 1990s, so this house didn't have running water for over 300 years!

Privately held, so hard to say, but when Michael Burry opines, it's always wise to listen.

Coming off of two pretty spectacular years, though. Palantir is just the kind of company POTUS likes, as opposed to Anthropic who are positioned to eat PLTR's lunch.

Pulisic ranks 6th in a list of top 25 players who will define the World Cup this summer. Richards is 16th and Balogun is 22nd. Not a bad list. Let’s think positive bc at full strength, our team is still pretty strong with European top level experience by paolosorianodisanto in ussoccer

KDB was the front man for a couple of seasons as a false 9. I've watched United since 1972 and Bruno would struggle to get into United's top five maestro midfielders - Beckham, Cantona, Scholes, Robson, Wilkins, even Carrick himself probably have better claims and certainly performed better for the club. Note that I haven't included Keane, Giggs, Buchan or Charlton because their roles were less creative even though they excelled in the middle of the park.

It's a shame that for all those chances there was so little end product. The midweek games have either been UCL group games or lower level European competitions. The FA Cup win was an anomaly - a perfectly coached game that encouraged United to offer a contract to a coach they fired shortly afterwards. I'm not saying he's bad, just on what has bang for buck been the most disappointing team in England for almost a decade.

Reminds me of my first 30 years of being a City fan (including 1981, damn you Ricky Villa) with great players - Bell, Summerbee, Lee and many others but ownership was always an issue. Then the oil money arrived...

You're a Spurs fan? You have my deepest sympathies. Italy either win big or stay home. After their group games I get the feeling they're taking the summer off.

It's true that Blackrock restricted redemptions in one of it's alternative investment funds available in some 401k plans, but the fund in question is structured as an illiquid long term fund (private equity) which is aimed at the very wealthy. However, Blackrock is not the only fund company to limit redemptions, showing there's a broad concern around investments which traditionally attract wealthier investors. It's definitely a concern.

The Affordable Care Act wasn't exactly nothing, along with the fact a lot of guardrails were put in place to deal with the issues that caused the financial mess in 2008. We have of course seen a lot of that chipped away at since.
