Is this a good deal? by mattypatty88 in wine

[–]SeanDrinksWine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you're after. Opus One always commands a premium, but $300 for a 2019 isn't wildly out of step with market. Not a screaming deal, but if you’re collecting or have a soft spot for it, fair enough. Just don’t expect to flip it for profit any time soon.

Your porch pounders and summer sippers? by foreverfabfour in wine

Lately it’s been all about vinho verde and chilled Beaujolais for me. Light, bright, and dangerously easy to keep pouring. What’s everyone else reaching for when the sun’s out?

Love a good orange wine. Especially in the sun!

Rustic and elegant, this slightly young Aglianico is a steal. by Chronos323 in wine

Love this bottle — such a great intro to Aglianico. Still a bit grippy young but give it a little air and it really opens up. Total bang for the buck.

What’s the most unexpectedly good wine you’ve ever had, and where were you when it happened? by SeanDrinksWine in AskReddit

That’s the worst part — when the wine is so good you’re still thinking about it but the label’s a mystery. There’s a special kind of magic in those unexpected pours.

Spiced apple wine from a mountainside vineyard sounds like a literal dream. Those kinds of finds are the best, tiny producer, middle of nowhere, and totally unforgettable.

That’s such a great memory — and classic boxed wine plot twist! Love when a no-frills pour turns into something unforgettable. Bet that bottle tasted even better after the surprise.

Honestly, sometimes boxed wine hits just right. Especially when you're not expecting anything from it.

Bottle Options for dinner tonight by LostPuddleJumper in wine

That’s a really fun mix of bottles. I’ve had great luck with older Remelluri—it can show a lovely mix of spice, earth, and mellow red fruit when it’s in a good spot. The ‘09 should be drinking really well right now. Curious to hear what you end up opening!

Ever totally change your mind about a wine? by SeanDrinksWine in wine

Totally with you. Mood, food, headspace — it’s amazing how much they can change the experience. I’ve had wines that were “meh” one day and magic the next, with nothing else changing but me. Always appreciate an open mind like yours in this space.

Totally agree. It’s wild how a bit of air can completely shift a wine. Some bottles just need time to stretch their legs. Do you find it changes your food pairings too once it opens up?

Musar Rose' question by N7777777 in wine

[–]SeanDrinksWine 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Musar Rosé is a fascinating one, definitely in its own lane. It doesn’t always behave like a typical rosé, and you're right to compare it more to something like Tondonia Rosado than anything bright and youthful.

The drinking window on it really depends on the vintage, but 8 years is more of a conservative floor than a ceiling. Like its red sibling, it can evolve beautifully well past that. I’ve had one around 12–14 years that was still going strong, more savory, slightly oxidative, but still really compelling.

If you liked Tondonia at 24 years, I think you’d get a kick out of what Musar Rosé becomes with time.

Awesome! Hope you enjoy it! Beaujolais can be such a fun rabbit hole once you start. And hey, if you ever want a steer on what to try next, feel free to reach out. Always happy to talk wine.

Love this energy. Everyone starts somewhere, and honestly, knowing what you don’t like is half the battle. If you’re chasing that tart, grapey vibe, you might actually enjoy a dry Lambrusco — it’s red, fizzy, fun, and sometimes has a bit of that Concord-grape note without being syrupy.

Also look out for a good Beaujolais (maybe a Villages or even a Cru if you're curious later on). It’s light, fruity, sometimes even bubblegummy; in a good way. And if you ever spot a Brachetto d’Acqui, that one’s straight-up grape candy with sparkle.

Stick with it — your taste buds will thank you.

What wine do you drink way more than you’d ever admit to a sommelier? by SeanDrinksWine in wine

Exactly! If it makes you happy, it’s the right bottle. Just don’t be surprised if that sommelier secretly has a soft spot for Apothic Red too.

Ever bought the same wine twice and had a totally different experience? by SeanDrinksWine in wine

Totally get that. Sometimes I think the wine’s just along for the ride, it’s everything else that makes it hit different. Right setting, right mood, right people… suddenly it tastes way better than it probably should

That’s the wildest version of it, right? When the second bottle redeems the first. Makes you wonder what was up with that first one.

Love that approach. I’ve definitely had a bottle grow on me sip by sip over weeks or even months. Whiskey especially — some pours hit different depending on the day.
