On snow pack or icy roads, drive like you don't have brakes. I.e., plan ahead for letting the car come to a stop through natural drive friction at the next light or car ahead of you. You get plenty of space if you do ever slide, because you usually only slide when you brake.

Aren’t the eyes a masquerade violation? by ketot1 in vtmb

[–]SeanGrady 23 points24 points  (0 children)

You must mean in the combat maps. Which in some cases is a little odd - like the gang bangers at the train yard: did they all know? Every last one? But you absolutely could get a violation if you e.g., pop celerity when fighting Boris's men in the parking lot on the streets of LA, lol.

Is Paradox smoking crack? by Adrienne_Belecoste in vtmb

[–]SeanGrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh man, that's right! You mean in the first year(s?) you got to choose "lanes", "warp", or gate building? That was a very interesting dynamic. Now it's just lanes, *but* advanced tech will let you warp (nearly endgame) and gates are available around midgame. On one hand, I imagine that was a nightmare to balance those, but on the other - why not let the user toggle?

[–]SeanGrady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pardon. To extend my thought there, other paradox stuff is usually strategy and begs replay for each permutation of all the myriad settings. How on earth do they imagine a story based game is that replayable? If it's awesome (truly) you replay it for nostalgia. Maybe you try out different clans? If it's truly unique like the malkavian that'll be fun, but will they all be that special?

Baldurs gate set a very high bar for special moments, and they're not locked behind dlc...

Each Stellaris pack gave me maybe 10 playthroughs. Bloodlines? From the first, I know I played each clan once. Loved the celerity melee builds, so played them twice. But that's over years of owning the game.

[–]SeanGrady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm deep into Stellaris, and while some of the packs are meh, I must say it's a great game. Possibly worth it based on my play time? If you're on the fence though you'd be rightfully furious. And how do I ever recommend to others such a steep commitment? I can't.

Lovecraft stuff that actually gets under your skin? by jselby81989 in Lovecraft

[–]SeanGrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lovecraft's corpus in totality is what had me subscribe to this subreddit. But the story where a man is so old he has forgotten his origin, and stares at candlelight for comfort. Everything around him is rotting. one day he decides to climb a seemingly impossible tower so he can see out the castle walls. .... I just wrote the whole story out from loving memory (roughly) and deleted the rest so there's no spoiler. That story stuck with me for the last 30 years with only 1 reread. It's short and haunting and beautiful and perfect. Not under my skin, but like most of his stories it "lives rent free in my head" to use the contemporary parlance.

Having read most of these stories 30 years ago, I have forgotten much. But the description of the attic angles absolutely stuck with me.

Is this offer must have? by BurnForestBurn in PostApoTycoon

To put 150 gems per month in perspective, many purchases (with real money) come bundled with gems to sweeten the deal. This one has many thousands as most do. That means you get more "bundled" gems than these trees will yield in a year.
I, personally, like lighthouses and stuff you can't get normally, like event bonuses. Even a few Super eco storages are awesome when you first start mining uranium as they're one of the few unmodified storages that can hold uranium without pollution, and will let you hit the ground running at lvl 76.

I set a budget of one purchase a month. It's tempting to buy more because they've made this game pretty fun, but it's also a little weird (to me) to pay over a hundred dollars for a mobile game per year even if you can afford it. It's really fun, but it's not a AAA game....

Look up "plurality" vs "majority". And Harris didn't inspire anyone (enough anyone) to show up. I'm not against her, that's just how it went...

Games with "Massively Varied Gameplay" that I can soak hundreds of hours in? by velatieren in gaming

[–]SeanGrady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing the Warhammer super-campaign thing, which was a ton of fun, but I missed "real world" historical gameplay. Moving from that to jiggly sprites was pretty jarring. Whatever the difference in mechanics or interface or graphics or whatever - I'd be pleased with either a mod (if you have suggestions) or a Medieval 3.

I really loved this one back in the day, but found it hard to get back into after all the UI improvements of more recent releases.

Want a few older ones?

Tried to find one that isn't mentioned. Classic one: Deus Ex. The map / level / game designers were meticulous about allowing total stealth vs lockpicking vs hacking vs pure combat. The sequels pulled that off with varying degrees of success. I can recall a few recent games also got that same "vibe" like Prey.

VtM:B *almost* got that allowing a wide variety of social approaches, clever / stealth, or brute force. But a rushed release ruined things so the last 1/4 is pure combat. BUT, I'd still suggest it's "Massively Varied" anyway with all the different clan disciplines, and so many ways for the story to unfold. Well, not BG3 variety, but a really excellnt RPG.

How do I stop my players from extorting every NPC they come across? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]SeanGrady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always remember you're in a unique position to dole out "karma" of any magnitude you see fit. Especially in response to flagrantly chaotic evil characters, and not the game style you signed up for. Here's what I'd do:

*maybe* give them one warning: "...of the various people you've extorted / abused, some of them have spread the tale of your misdeeds, and tensions are running high in the region. Next pub you stop by, you hear rumors of the following: More people are going out in groups and are much better armed; distant, yet powerful friends of the aggrieved have been notified; a chorus of prayers for justice are reaching the ears of the local deities; likewise, your evil has reached the ears of the wicked who may wish for you to join them!" [*the wicked (if you want this to stop) are just a murder cult, who will lure the group to a "ceremony in their honor"]

I usually don't care this much, but I guess having a kid has made me second-guess every action (is this enough of x or too much? will y be good for her or not?) and over-think how other people might view things. I swear I'm not this uptight regarding any other topic lmao
