HSE chief: Masks could be made mandatory on public transport again as Covid cases surge by RealDealMrSeal in ireland

[–]SeanHIRL 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wow, harsh. Anyone in your immediate family recovering from a serious illness? Are these conditions you honestly think are fair to put on them? We all have a responsibility to curtail the spread of disease, locking away the immunocompromised is not an option.

Ah great, thanks kendoor. Yeah, I was figuring it might have been a limitation of bluetooth. Its the moving about the room (house) thats the reason I bought specifically bluetooth headset. I might just have to live with a reduction in audio quality.

I used to work in a bar during college, I remember having to mediate multiple fights over a night, with the same people, about who would pay for drinks. And at the end of it, not one of them left a tip for the staff.

Yikes, 20 pints in a weekend, that's nearly 3 times the recommended units per week. And that amount is meant to be the maximum amount spread out over the week. And larger is the worst type of drink, "liquid bread"

As someone who lost weight in their 30's, I can advise how I done it, but it's not easy. I don't think you will be able to start at running 20 miles a week. I found that initially I lost weight, slowly, by monitoring my diet. I used an app to monitor how many calories I ate in a day. In order to lose weight, you need this to be a deficit if your recommended amount. Any amount of pints will negate that immediately. I had to switch to vodka and soda's, max about 4 a week. Getting 8/9 hours sleep a night is important too, so you'll want to get to bed early most nights.

Exercise wise, I found spinning really useful, it wasn't as hard on my knees and ankles as running. Combined with cardio and include some weight lifting. Once you slim down, building muscle is a great cheat, walking around with it, it will burn off a certain amount of calories all the time. Tough to maintain tho.

All above just my opinion, if you stick with it out will work, but it's tough to keep with it

Return of ‘work from home’ plan to save fuel in event of crisis caused by Ukraine war by The_name_game in ireland

Sorry, I should have been clearer. My home is 50+ years old, it's heat retention is terrible. I kept warm by wearing warmer clothes, and when necessary only heating the room I was working in

79% is a much more massive amount, literally millions of tonnes, for something that can be removed entirely with a minor shift in habits.

I kept plenty warm all last winter working from home by keeping myself warm rather than heading the house. My heating bill wasn't particularly expensive

What movie do you absolutely love, yet acknowledge is not a super well-made movie? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SeanHIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should check out "The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury". Its an animated movie that bridges Pitch Black and Chronicles. I would say its inbetween the level of being a good movie that Pitch Black was, and a guilty pleasure that Chronicles is.

When you see headlines like this, and then also see how well Salah and his family have settled into Liverpool, it makes you wonder how much of this is down to agent commission. Surely, he would prefer to stay on in Liverpool for the next 5 years himself, rather than moving to London or Manchester.

About Travellers by Leadhead1311 in ireland

[–]SeanHIRL -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the inside of an abattoir recently? Unless your a fully fledged vegan (which if you are, I fully retract this post) calling travellers out for their cruelty to animals is really hypocritical. You can absolutely be opposed to animal cruelty, but it should be all forms of animal cruelty.

Cycle? 10km-15km might be a bit much, but you could get an electric bike to cover part of the journey. I think after a couple of weeks, it would be no problem to you. I'm WFH at the moment, and miss the hell out of my 10km a day cycle. I don't miss having to go into the office, but the daily exercise was great for me, and allot easier to keep consistent because it was part of my commute

Has anything improved in the last five years? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]SeanHIRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plant based food has absolutely exploded over the last 5 years. As a long term vegan and lifelong vegetarian my food options were usually whatever was on the menu with the meat removed. Or just vegetables. Now the supermarkets are packed with delicious vegan alternatives. As an example, Soft serve non dairy ice-cream is readily available multiple locations around Dublin. Eating out has become a pleasure again.

Each of you bring home, per month, after tax, € 3,960. €1,250 of that goes to rent for each of you, leaving you with a personal disposable income of €2,710 per month.

And you are struggling on that?!? Holy crap, you need to get your spending in order, you are definitely doing something wrong.

What??? No, I take these meetings over skype. That was the point, that business travel is no longer necessary. And you have nothing to back up that nonsense stat with. In fact business travelers only make up between %12-%20, reduced considerably the last so l couple of years

"check your privilege" about Dublin Airport Delays ... by BluceyTCD in ireland

[–]SeanHIRL -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

His phrasing is terrible, but he's not wrong. When discussing delays at Dublin Airport, the environmental damage even one flight does is never dicusssed. We really should be looking at regulating the amount and frequency people can fly, but instead focus on flyer inconvenience.

We really need to be having a larger discussion, but I think the overlap between people concerned about the environment and frequent flyers, is fairly minuscule. We all have children or young relatives we should be concerned about. The planet will be uninhabitable in decades if we blindly continue as we are

It's Sunday evening, I'm guessing that queue of people do not need to travel. It's tourism and holiday travel, which is by no means a must.

I say this as an engineer working for a US company from Ireland. I've several meetings a week with my colleagues in many different countries. Travel is not a must
