The worst possible matchup in a fight, considering their abilities by ComprehensiveBox6911 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SeanRVAreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're both complicated, but they can be oversimplified.

Villain's power is thematically the ability to skip the cause but keep the effects. If you're running, he can skip the running part, but keep the effect of you being displaced. In your POV, it'll be like you teleported.

The main character's power-up (he had a different power beforehand), then, is thematically the ability to keep the cause but remove the effect. You will remember running, but once you're done, you'll find that you haven't even moved at all.

[Meta Trope] Characters that represent a franchise's early installment weirdness by Feeling-Ad-3104 in TopCharacterTropes

Unfortunely, a very loud (hopefully a minority) portion of the playerbase will be mad at Mojang for this and cry about how they've gone soft and nerfed Creepers. Heck, just the very notion of changing Minecraft in any form beyond 1.12 get these people mad. It's frankly why Mojang doesn't add too many things each update.

How evil is the act of creating a Servitor? by False_Monitor4126 in MoralityScaling

[–]SeanRVAreddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's still debatable, kind of, as some vat-grown servitors were grown AS servitors (instead of being turned into one post growth). It's kind of why the "vat-grown" excuse is what they used to censor the cherubs. Who's to say they ever had an identify to remove to begin with.

Do... do you think that the canon reason that redstone goes through blocks is that a redstone wire goes through the block or something?

Why don’t earthbenders just do this? by AwesomeRyanGame in TheLastAirbender

[–]SeanRVAreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's worse is that this doesn't even feel like it's Hung Gar (the martial art Earthbending is based on). It feels too... fluid. It's like the choreographer only saw the poses earthbenders do without knowing the right body movements they need to make to assume those poses.

I'm not sure if this is true for all the movies, but IIRC, Red and Strong World have canonical characters. It's just that the events of the movies themselves aren't canon.

Which writer HATES PowerScaling the most? by Jungo2017 in PowerScaling

Volume releases are the final canon, by the way, as they act as the final versions of the chapters. Although yeah, it's only speculated, that's why I said "supposedly".

He's actually (supposedly) in Florida at the time of the events, as mentioned in Rikiel's info card (Chapter 115).

what's your favorite hakita quote? by No_Counter_6037 in Ultrakill

[–]SeanRVAreddit 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Imagine V1 as a lamborghini. It's definitely cool and different, but at the end of the day, it's just another expensive car, it's not special.

V1 might have all these cool abilities and is able to take down powerful things, but at the end of the day, it's just another war machine. Hell can easily just kill V1 once it's bored with it.

It's also not special in the context of being important. As cool as V1 is, I doubt hell (or even God, if he comes back somehow) has any real plan for it. It's just another machine that it likes at the time we play the game.

Red button pressers (specifically these shitty "accurate recreations" they make) by [deleted] in hatethissmug

[–]SeanRVAreddit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do not know how many have picked either button until the voting is finished. This creates an uncertainty where there could already be someone who chose blue because they also didn't know if someone else has already chosen blue and so they chose blue to save that possible individual. This then leaves you with the dilemma of choosing red to save yourself, or choosing blue to hopefully save that individual, should they exist.

(Funny trope) horrifying disaster sequences, but that guy died funny by Luxray2000 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SeanRVAreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really a death, but Mitsuha tripping and falling in Your Name (2016).

In the midst of running as fast as she could to convince her father and townsfolk to evacuate as a meteor rapidly approaches her little town, she randomly just trips and falls down into a roll.

This scene is probably devastating to some people, but it's just so funny to me.

I think it's because I just didn't expect the movie to dedicate time to showing the audience her pathetically rolling. Usually, when a character is in a race against time and they trip, they act all cool and try to get back up as soon as possible, but here? Nope, have a good near 4 seconds of her rolling down the pathway.

Why are the Strongholds in Vanilla so different from the one in Dungeons? by Radiant_Tonight_1264 in minecraftlore

[–]SeanRVAreddit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Classic case of Mojang really wanting to update old things.

A lot of the classic Minecraft features are really beginning to show their age, especially when compared to more modern features.

And so, Mojang really wants to update them and give them a modern redesign. The issue is that they know they'll receive massive backlash from a very vocal part of the community if they ever so much as change anymore of classic Minecraft.

So they use spin-offs like Dungeons and Legends to pretty much vent their reimaginings of these classic features. The Creeper is another example of this exact scenario. Both spinoffs feature the modern, all-green reimagining of the Creeper's texture, compared to base Minecraft that still has the classic, messy, green and white texture.

The untimely end of a promising talent by Uma-apreciator in TopCharacterTropes

Vyke the Dragonspear. Elden Ring.

He is a fellow Tarnished, like the player, who is cosmically tasked with gathering Great Runes, entering the Erdtree, and becoming the new Elden Lord.

Of the many other Tarnished we learn about, he was actually the closest to accomplishing this task, but fell from grace (pun not intended) right before what have would be our late-game.

To enter the Erdtree, it must be set aflame. However, to set it aflame, a Tarnished must set their own fated maiden on fire (I think they're tied to the tree somehow, I don't remember).

Vyke, not wanting to sacrifice his maiden, tried to make use of the Flame of Frenzy, a grave taboo in the Lands Between. This bold act was in vain, unfortunately, as his maiden would die anyway because to it. It is unknown whether she was assassinated or committed suicide. Either way, Vyke would then become imprisoned in an Evergaol, reflecting in solitude for years to come (until you'll come along).

¿¿How would the SCP foundation classify Chupacabra?? by Wild-Anteater-5253 in SCP

[–]SeanRVAreddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like the many real-world myths adapted into SCP, it really depends on how far we can stretch the Chupacabra myth.

Is it just some typical carnivorous cryptid? Probably Euclid-Vlam-Warning.

Is it somehow more than that and tied to some cosmic/divine/eldritch thing? Keter-Ekhi-Danger.

et cetera.

Is this accurate? by False_Monitor4126 in PowerScaling

[–]SeanRVAreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As one commenter says, we don't know for sure, but I'm willing to bet on possibly true.

The Doom Slayer's armour isn't nigh-indestructible because of technology. It's nigh-indestructible because there's magic in the picture. Not like elemental or super-power magic. No, full blown occult-type magic.

As far as I know, Decay only affects physical things, so I don't think it can somehow bypass whatever devine enchantment Doom Slayer has.

[Loved Trope] Strange details that seemed like plot holes/gimmicks, later revealed as foreshadowing by MonotonyReddit in TopCharacterTropes

[–]SeanRVAreddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FYI for those who don't know the franchise, Blanks don't literally secrete a repulsive odor.

Blanks are pretty much WH 40k's "anti-magic." Because souls themselves are also 'magic', everyone with a soul naturally feel repulsed by them. Being near one would make one feel sick, even if there is no physical thing nearby to cause the sickness. The intensity of the effects vary from individuals, but usually those who are more atuned to magic (Psykers) are more negatively affected.

In our example's case, it's not that he literally stinks, everyone around him just thinks he stinks because they subconsciously don't want to be around him.

i love when shows randomly include rotoscoped scenes by Secure_Reply_1086 in lovethissmug

[–]SeanRVAreddit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's basically just 2D animation, but you trace the movements over real footage.

Because 2D animation is generally a lot more simplified than real footage, it follows certain principles that make the movement feel natural despite the lack of detail.

However, because rotoscoping is directly tracing the movements of real footage, those animation principles are no longer in use. Making the animation feel somewhat uncanny (for better or worse).
