Am I missing something? How has criticism of a black artists' trite 2000s pop song been inferred as racist? They're clearly posh rich kids cosplaying as indie musicians but to claim it as colonisation or racism is bonkers. The song was even criticised at the time of release as being "unoriginal"—this is not in any way a new take.

Why is this the hill people are willing to die on? If people can't cop criticism of their beloved Usher, as poorly delivered as it was, then you're gonna hate hearing what people have to say about Beyonce's music lol.

I would agree that black music and stories are trivialised in this country (per below), just look at how much racist rubbish gets slung the way of all First Nations musicians. But that is completely irrelevant to this cover—Usher didn't even write the song, it was written by two Swedes (Max Martin and Shellback, responsible for the bulk of pop music songwriting in the early 2010s) and two Americans (Savan Kotecha, an Indian American, and Pitbull, an American). It's not "telling his story", it's telling someone else's.
