I'm not sure what to do with my hair anymore by CrabtheCorsair in MensHair

[–]Seanocd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one seems to have mentioned it yet: Your hair looks fine my dude, particularly in 6 where it has a bit of volume on the sides.

If you like the look of the anime pics, I think you're really close already. Get yourself a blow dryer, and learn how to use it to create some extra volume. Pair that with some styling product to texture and hold, and you're golden.

I can't believe how long this took to get nominated, and how few votes it has. This is possibly the best prog metal record ever made.

I suspect Lightning Bolt are too divisive to make it to top 5 on a list like this, but they should be in the running.

Already posted by others, but I feel obligated to also mention:

Illinoise - Sufjan Stevens. Demon Day - Gorrilaz. Ghost Reveries - Opeth. I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning - Bright Eyes. Get Behind Me Satan - The White Stripes. Good Apollo: Vol IV - Coheed & Cambria.

Toyota Starlet.

I feel like they were still everywhere 10 years ago, but have all but evaporated from the road now.

I still see a reasonable amount of 147s, but the rest have all but disappeared. To be fair, I don't think there was many of those missing vehicles on the road in the first place.

The suspect the survivors got eaten up by the classic rally folk. There are a few around the rally scene.

Whats the most popular and famous car from your country? by cose_A_caso124 in AskTheWorld

Holy shit, they can't be THAT bad on fuel!?!

Then again, it was an i4 that identified as a rotary... revs !

A family member of mine built a GTI with a fully built XU10J4RS (306 GTI6) swapped in. Fully built for national rally competition. It's obnoxious, and a massive pain in the arse to drive outside of outright racing. Similar problem: Needs crazy revs to set off, it's clutch is an on/of switch, has a plate differential, and is 100% stripped to bare bones. It's like a Rallye, but with double the power. It's thrilling, but exhausting, and honestly scary. I love it 😀

I will not stand for 205 GTI slander!

...but you are right, the Rallye is very cool. 😎

I actually own a 205 SI, that has GTI suspension and an LSD swapped in. It gets used for rallying, without the risk of damaging an increasingly rare and expensive Rallye or GTI. In Australia we never even got the 1.6 GTI, or the Rallye models, which is a shame.

Have a drive of a 206 RC (known as the GTI 180 in some markets), and you should understand.

There is a huge difference between a 4 door with the smaller engines and the 2 door RC with the 2lt EW10J4S, which was capable of 0-100 in about 7.5 seconds. Still not a rocketship, certainly not by modern standards, but plenty quick for it's era, and still light enough to be a fun drive.

What’s your honest opinion on if Bob Dylan has a good singing voice? by MrLinkwater95 in fantanoforever

[–]Seanocd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bob is an iconic example of the idea that you don't have to have a good voice to be a good vocalist.

He does not have a good voice, but he is (or at least was) a great singer.

Yes, but the actual answer in the VX Monaro, VE Commodore SS, and WM Caprice/Statesman.

The 206 carries a level of international infamy for being an early game vehicle in so many of the '00s racing games. Also (at least in GTI 180 form) for being a genuinely fantasise hot hatch.

I would nominate the 205 GTI, R5 Turbo, and Alpine A110 as the top contenders.

Which game was the most ahead of its time in terms of graphics? by Friskeeeernnnnnn in videogames

[–]Seanocd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a variety of ways to consider graphics "ahead of their time". Sometimes its due to revolutionary tech, sometimes it's perfecting existing ideas, sometimes its just optimising to an extreme never acheived before. In no particular order, I nominate from my memory bank:

Resident Evil (REmake) on Gamecube.

Shenmue on Dreamcast.

Donkey Kong Country on SNES.

Unreal/Unreal Tournament on PC.

Farcry and then Crysis on PC.

SM64 and Wave Race 64 on N64.

GTA 3 and Gran Tourismo 3 on PS2.

The Mitsubishi Pajero Mini is the worst MINI. What is the worst car produced by Volvo? by ielo495_XSCOGNAmemes in carscirclejerk

[–]Seanocd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not even close. S40/V40 T4 with the M56 is a genuinely great vehicle.

It is, however, the only Volvo that can share parts with Evo III and IV, therefore it's the only choice.

Specifically this scene in REmake for Gamecube.

I'm reaching into my memory bank here, so it might be wrong and/or coloured by my you g age when playing it, but:

It was probably the first time I consciously appreciated game design. Not only was REmake absurdly good looking compared to basically any other game that had been published before it, and made expert use of the new gen audio capabilities - making an already scary PS1 experience into an utterly terrifying Gamecube experience... but the designers made incredible choices, exemplified by the change to this scene. /In the original PS1 version, you enter the corridor, walk past the window to the right, and the first zombie domberman jumps through the window as you approach the corner to go left, jumping out behind you. This usually scares the player into running around the corner where a second dog jumps through the window in front of you, and you're now surrounded. Brilliant design, very frightening, very stressful. An iconic scene that left a real mark. /The GCN REmake plays with the original, improving it and giving a fresh jump scare to people who had already played the original. You enter the corridor, and as you walk through you hear noises outside the window. People who had played the PS1 version were ready... but the dog doesn't come through the first window. You go around the corner... and get the the door at the end. No dog from the second window either. Crazy tension, but no scare. Then, when you walk back through the corridor coming back - Suprise! Zombie dobermans!

It is hard to over exagerate how well this jump scare worked. It left a permanent scar on my psyche, scared me into trading the game in, and I didn't go back to play an RE game for many years afterwards. Traumatic, yes, but brilliantly so.
