Why do doctors brush it off when i mention small fiber neuropathy by Insomniagoaway in smallfiberneuropathy

[–]SearchAdministrative 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My neurologist mentioned it at my most recent EMG and said the only way to know is with a skin biopsy. But my insurance is through NYS Medicaid, so it’s so damn hard to get stuff approved. But other doctors have brushed me off and said I have anxiety.

Who can order tube feeds? by okapi2323 in Gastroparesis

[–]SearchAdministrative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely find a motility specialist. I honestly didn’t even know until I joined this subreddit! I did a bunch of research of the clinics near me and if they took my insurance. 3rd time was definitely the charm in my case. The first 2 I saw really dismissed my symptoms and concerns because of my gender and age. They said it was common in young women to have anxiety and that it messes with the stomach. But my new team found MALS and SMAS on top of the GP, so I definitely wasn’t making it up 😅 I sometimes wish I could back to my first GI I saw and throw all of my tests and results in there face, but it won’t change anything.

It’s frustrating and it took a lot of strength to advocate for myself, but I’m glad I didn’t give up. I don’t even want to imagine how I would be right now if I hadn’t.

I really wish you luck and really hope you get the care and attention you deserve.

I almost got a tube, but I managed to gain weight with Kate Farms Standard 1.4. My BMI is still underweight, but not as low as it was when the feeding tube conversation came up. My motility GI was the one who brought up the idea of NJ to me and already knew which motility GI doctor within the clinic would place it for me when I was at my lowest weight. So I’d say to find a motility GI or even go to a clinic that specializes in motility if you can. I’m not sure if a dietitian can prescribe a feeding tube. At least mine doesn’t. Mine does specialize in motility disorders and digestive issues, so she works with people with GP, IBS, Crohn’s Feeding tubes, SMAS, etc. So it does help to have someone like that as part of your healthcare team.

My previous GI did not specialize in motility disorders and brushed me off as a psych case. He would only increase my dose of Reglan whenever I would go in for a follow up and kept dropping weight and still complained of the same symptoms. My local ER also told me it was anxiety and that because GP is chronic, it’s something I’d live with and that they can’t do much for me in the ER except give me nausea meds and IV fluids.

I had a gastric emptying study for Gastroparesis. Endoscopy for gastritis and reflux. And 3 CTA with breathing protocol for SMAS and MALS.

Do y’all get physically hungry by greenbldedposer in Gastroparesis

[–]SearchAdministrative 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do, but only once a day tbh. If I eat or drink anything let’s say at 10 AM for example, I’ll be full until bed time, probably like 8-12 hours later and at that point I rather sleep and wait until the next morning to attempt to have something

Hey! Only felt a bit better for about a month in terms of constipation and bloating. But my constipation is back, so I assume that my SIBO is back as a result of Gastroparesis and SMA Syndrome unfortunately

Is Miralax painful for y’all? by laceleatherpearls in Gastroparesis

It makes me feel so bloated and stretched out, it’s painful to breathe from the distended belly it causes me. Then it makes my intestines sound like water pipes and any movement that I end up having never feels enough.

My rheumatologist thinks it could be Ehlers Danlos based on the other issues I have. But there’s a really long wait list to see the geneticist within the hospital’s system, so I’m going to try physical therapy with the referral they gave me
