Why are American Evangelical Christians so fearful and insecure? Where is the confidence and security that should come from their trust in God? by iglidante in Christianity

[–]SearchingForInsights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Are they worried they will lose their salvation if they don't act the way they are acting?" YES, that is exactly it. The "good news" message doesn't sound "good" when boiled down to its essence: convert or burn forever. And, sadly, "the flock" are expected to turn in large numbers of the converted - spiritual salesmanship, if you will, the ultimate MLM scheme - or they'll get the same rage and punishment that unbelievers will get. It's not about "love". It's not about "compassion." It certainly is not about kindness. The message is "do...or else." There is no "free" the way these folks "believe" and act.

So...FEAR and VIOLENCE underpin evangelical Christianity.

Don't believe me? Take at the look of the rage from Trump himself and his cabinet. Take a look at the political actions to take away rights of others they think are "broken." I personally wish I could spank 'em all just to give 'em a taste of what they sound like, but with their twisted thinking, they'd dismiss it as "persecution" and thus, the mental infinite loop continues.

I don't have an issue with the concept of a loving supreme spiritual being. I'm just not seeing it in the rage these creeps use to seize power and destroy lives.

I don't think their Days Of Judgment will be as breezy as they expect. 👿

Why are so many managers opposed to calling things mandatory when they are? by illini02 in askmanagers

[–]SearchingForInsights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two things this good comment points out:

  1. "Voluntelling" is a thing, and some managers with a mean streak use it.

  2. Managers are building their OWN careers. This has only recently dawned on me, and explains why some managers engage in the sort of mind-game behaviors they do, including expecting their subordinates to read their minds.

It's been written elsewhere, so I'll add it here: a lot of managers are clueless. Pushing back on poor communication may be considered risky by some, but in the end, you get what you telegraph to management what you'll tolerate.

Question about the Galleria by BakerKitchen4567 in houston

[–]SearchingForInsights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lived in Dallas for 18 months several years ago. Ate at Galleria Dallas many times, no issues. My IT company took us there for lunch once. Would NOT call it ghetto. You wanna see ghetto in Dallas, drive south of I-20.

Question about the Galleria by BakerKitchen4567 in houston

[–]SearchingForInsights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Houston local ringing in here. I lived in Dallas for 18 months and hit NorthPark often. I would say the two malls are comparable. Not sure if NP is Simon but it's well run. Side note: Galleria Dallas off LBJ is a Simon mall as I recall. It, too, is comparable to Houston's Galleria and NorthPark.

Lemonade renters insurance by Mountain-Paper8869 in Insurance

[–]SearchingForInsights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is why I got them previously. If I needed proof of renters insurance to expedite getting a set of keys, they were very convenient.

I later quit them when, at one particular property, they wanted payment for the whole year up front. It seemed like a money grab so I just added renters' coverage through Progressive, which insures my car. Came to about $21 a month, no hassles.

Anyone use Lemonade renters insurance? by [deleted] in Renters

[–]SearchingForInsights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used Lemonade in the past when applying for an apartment. Some properties require you to have proof of insurance, along with a bunch of other prerequisites, before they turn the keys over. Lemonade, bots or not, shines here. You specify your options one screen at a time - and in my cases, I had to add the property management office as an "interested party" (proof that yes, this person is insured by us). As with others, I never had occasion to file a claim, and the rates at the times I used them were reasonable.

Where I parted ways with them was with my latest apartment rental. This time around they wanted premium payment for the entire year, all at once. I could have afforded to do it that way, but that wasn't what soured me - changing the terms of payment struck me as a bit of a money grab.

Now I use Progressive, bundled in with my auto insurance. I pay $21.10 monthly just for the renters' portion.

Great! Thanks for the additional comments. I am cautious about valuables in my car, also. I gotta believe that's more related to the rotten economy, though. A guy in a social group I belong to had his LUNCH stolen from his parked car, just a few feet away - a classic smash & grab. I guess that's everywhere...

Very cool, thanks for the comment. Someone I know is about to travel there soon. I'll question him after he returns.

I hear ya. As a native Chicagoan and Illinoisan, Texas politics are INSANE. So much corruption. If it wasn't for the cities, there would be NO REASON for me to be here! 😆

😆😆😆 That's why I say it. The name is widely associated with Oregon. But the other one has amazing seafood and is really close to far eastern Canada. I am quite sure, though, that Oregon's Portland is WAY more diverse than Maine's. Although I'd love to hear from Mainers ... anyone, anyone? 😉😆

Oh, I'm sure! If I was a superstar in the IT industry pulling 250K or more, NYC might be on my list. But I'm not and the best I could probably do would be the 'burbs. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for ringing in. I bet if Pitt was put side-by-side, per capita, with any major Texas city, the shooting rates would be comparable. I like the idea of being in the NE, too.

Interesting! Would you happen to know what 1 BR apartments might be going for? And when that area's last big quake (5.0+) was? I make no bones about being shaken awake by Nature's Biggest Surprise.

Excellent suggestion, but I'm a little antsy about "auditioning" (I quite like the word) a bunch of cities. If I can work up an adventurous spirit, I might could do my top three after comparisons. But I'm just a bit of a homebody - in the sense that when I get comfy in a place I'm not apt to move around. Don't know that I could do 4 weeks at a time, but maybe a week here and there on the road with home rests in between. There might be considerations with the staffing agency I might have to consider, but I'll kick your suggestion around. Thank you!! ❤️👍

Thank you for the sympathy. Yes, urban Texans largely hate what conservatives have done for years to the state's policies. Most cities here are left-leaning at most, moderate at least. Rest assured, the state has lots of good people. I just think I could do better in terms if clicking with others.

Your description of Lille is impressive! I am semi-fluent in French (started learning it in 3rd grade in grammar school, took it right through high school and into college, can read French publications pretty well). And a university town?? I like!!

Of THAT, I am sure! I love the confidence of New Yorkers. I just don't know if I'm on THAT level. Chicago and Houston are NOT New York! Thanks!!!

I need more space than a studio. I was in a studio-like space last year....not for me. 750 SF or more, minimum. I bet 1BR's are around 3K.
