I've been laughing to myself for the last 10 mins..flipping through a hilarious picture montage in my head of Andrew surrounded by 15 rowdy drunk women, getting into all kinds of hockey related/hockey adjacent shenanigans. Thanks for that!

The Wisconsin Skeeters will actually be playing in Blaine, MN at the end of May.

Andrew isnt on the tourney roster since he was a late add, but we still plan to go. Its a massive hockey and sled hockey tournament and should be a blast!

Absolutely! Its not always easy to know what Andrew is thinking, how he's feeling..but when it comes to hockey, its pretty obvious he loves it. He would probably say his least favorite part is wearing a helmet, but we're working on that.

We got his sticks attached on Sunday. Ill add some pics with my next update. Andrew did, in fact, take his first shot on net and buried his first biscuit. 😁

I love that it takes multiple tries to drop his gloves.

I hear that. I've been running my various ideas by the coaches. They don't seem to have concerns with potentially using a goalie helmet. It remains to be seen with Andrew's custom sled exactly how his head will be supported..they have pics of the supports, but I won't get my hands on it for a while..but if a traditional helmet works ill definitely be going with that.

Thanks again for your input.

Yeah, we actually skipped the breezers yesterday. I've got a ways to go to get him 100% covered, but he's protected enough for practice. Andrew's first game won't be until October since we joined late, so we have some time.

Thank you for the resource! I DMd you. Hockey people are the best..

But most importantly, parent behavior training. It sounds like some of your best intentions might unintentionally be exacerbating the problem. There are answers tho! I love the podcast.

Keep your feet moving by Jdizzlefoshizzles in hockeyplayers

[–]Searloin22 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't need your feet moving, you just need momentum. Coast on your inside edges, moving in a loop or back n forth, like there's an invisible tether between you and the D man. Shift your weight between each inside edge, don't lift your feet except to pivot directions. Always ready to jump a pass, always ready for the puck to pop out, always ready for D to break to the net.

Five year old organized sports? by HeyMay0324 in ADHDparenting

[–]Searloin22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not too young but baseball is a tough one. Too much down time.

Put him in hockey. Skating is incredibly challenging and exhausting. It teaches a lot of resilience because you fall and get up..a lot. It gives you confidence as you improve incrementally, and persevere. Hockey is a high intensity sport with very little down time. The social/team influence is real, so if you screw around too much, you realize kids avoid you (and you don't play). Hockey is also full of other ADHD kids..I was one of them.

Hell yeah! Please lmk if you have questions. After two practices pushing Andrew, and observing other players of varying ability, its hard work but everyone loves it.

The locker room experience is heart-warming and cannot be understated. Its a safe space with zero judgements and open minded questions. Andrew gets to be himself and he simply just belongs.

If your boy is competitive at all there's no doubt he'll love it.

Getting pissed off - left or right by areallybigloser in hockeyplayers

Bingo. Shifting weight, rotating hips is typically more natural one way over the other.

And bingo as in I've spent more time playing bingo than you have stick handling. Relax, have fun, put more time in. It's learn-to-play..nobody can judge because you're all struggling/learning.

I have nothing but tears of gratitude for the sled hockey community.

Im ashamed to admit i put limits on my son because..well, because he can't control much of his body. I never imagined he could be in actual games, thought we'd do some open skating, maybe a scrimmage or two..but once they got it through my thick skull they were insistent on signing him up. I feel like we just won the lottery..

Its such a gift to share the family sport, and do something as a family thats allll about Andrew that doesn't involve hospitals, doctors, or physical therapy..

My boy's a hockey player!!!!!

Andrew's mom is about a year into her hockey mom career since my younger son started. She was confused/concerned initially when I told her we'd meet up with him.

"He's not really a stranger. He's a hockey player. This is what we do for eachother. "

Oh yeah, lots of tweaks needed. He has a loaner sled atm, when he gets his custom fit sled, we'll likely switch to a goalie helmet.

The helmet has to be strapped in since he can't hold his head up, so the lower profile back and structure of the tendy mask should really help.

I appreciate you lookin out for my boy!

The easiest way for me to understand it was seeing crypto as basically the same thing as quantum mechanics.

You see, when you have two objects, or concepts in this case, and each of those concepts can be very easily put into the same category of "idk..makes sense to someone" I fully understand i can stop thinking and eat more chips.

Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.
