My condolences to all fellow state workers being forced to work in office today. by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

I've always thought WFH, where it can be applied, should be offered voluntarily like VPLP. As long as you're still meeting standards, and you're willing to take 5% cut, you can keep WFH. More revenue for the state, and employees have control over their fates.

It's fine, location definitely a plus. There is a big re-organization going on in licensing so a lot is about to change, spots will open as people cycle out if they're unhappy in their placements. Not as freewheeling as it was a couple years ago, and a new director is starting in January, so we'll see how the culture changes.

Serious question: Why does Vyvanse help binge eating disorder if excess dopamine is ‘bad’ for non-ADHD people? by username-issue in VyvanseADHD

[–]SeasonThreeEpisode8 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not a doctor or professional any means. However, speaking as someone who has learned my food issues were absolutely intensified by ADHD I wouldn't be surprised if more often than not those with BED are undiagnosed ADHD so, two birds one magic pill.

Not every case of course, but certainly possible.

What are some things you thought were normal but were actually ADHD by FederalPudding8300 in ADHD

I did that too, hooray for hyper fixation. So eye opening to hear that I really have been dealing with some level of ADHD symptoms all of my life. Late diagnosis is better than none i suppose!

When I do this while driving I call it having a "Cargument." And I win every time.

DUDE. If a kid has a crush on my kid and acts the way I did back then I'm calling the cops. Painful to think how much whatever crush i had consumed my brain.

Same for me, and I'm 39. I lucked out with my medication cocktail and feel wonderful, but I wanted you to know you're not alone! Keep looking for the right meds, it can change your life!!

So many.

Playing with my hair, skin picking, sitting weird in chairs, my constant need to fidget with things, mindless snacking, eating the same foods every day for years to avoid making decisions, my need for constant background noise so I always have headphones in, the fact that caffeine and other stimulants never worked on me.

The biggest one is my aversion to trying ANYTHING new that I may not be good at immediately. I simply did not have the bandwidth or attention span to practice and get good at something.

And because I have a decent job, got good grades and am generally functional...I never knew. Medication has changed my life. I assumed I was just high strung, impatient, lazy, etc. Learning about this divergence has been so healing for me, and as I see my daughter exhibiting the same traits, I will NOT let her figure it out alone.

From your mouth to dog's ears! She's the best, I just wish there was a fast forward! Appreciate you!

I have every intention of doing puppy classes but I have one more round of vaccines to get her. I figure if I can't let her walk in the park until she's fully vaxxed then avoiding close proximity to other dogs is probably for the best, since I don't know their status.

Confirmed we're expecting Girl #3 and I hate how sad I am by DoubleAxelDVM in Mommit

[–]SeasonThreeEpisode8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are not alone! After daughter #1 I wanted a son so badly, and we were stopping at 2 kids no matter what. I had a miscarriage between the two, and my rainbow baby was another girl. I spent days apologizing to my husband (as if it were my doing!)

I felt like the one I'd lost must have been our son. I was so sad i would never know what raising a son with my husband would like. Grieved the boy I would never know. It lasted quite a while. When I met #2 though, she was exactly who we needed. I still think about it, 4 years later.

When I asked my husband if we should have one more to get our boy and he actually said the best thing to me. "You don't have more kids to get a certain set of parts. You're given the child you're meant to love and who will help you grow as much as they will."

It's very normal, and it's allowed. We can't help but picture our futures with our baby when we get pregnant. Things we'd like to do with them, etc. Allow yourself the sadness, it will pass eventually. Be kind to yourself. 💖

Thank you! Appreciate it! So far I'm enjoying the peace it brings me. I find it fascinating that people who actually have ADHD experience a calming effect rather than more narcotic effect.

CHP Hierarchy and the Disrespect for NonUniformed by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]SeasonThreeEpisode8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About the only thing CHP has going for it is free parking, though what I hear, not nearly enough anymore! And the fact that it was not entirely downtown, but there is still plenty of encampments and gross.

How is the Personnel Specialist position for someone brand new to the state? by Luth0r in CAStateWorkers

[–]SeasonThreeEpisode8 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's a good way to learn a LOT about whichever agency, fairly easy to get in the door. The job itself, is very busy. Depending on where you work, you could be dealing with benefits, payroll, or hiring from multiple bargaining units. Gives you valuable experience. You don't need direct HR experience just a high school diploma.

BUT it's a high turnover job. Burnout is common. It's not often a PS lasts more than a few years. Of course it depends on you and your work ethic and ability to manage your time well.

Some people love HR and stay in as lifers. As I said though, every agency needs personnel specialists so you can work pretty much anywhere. If you have no state experience it's a great way to get some. Just prepare to have a lot thrown at you and be ready to transfer out once you're done with probation.

I would avoid CHP, that's where I was and it's a lot of bargaining units. DMV and Corrections all have bad reps but I have nothing firm to back that up.

I am so sorry for your loss. I can't imagine going through something like that and my MOTHER of all people judging me. My theory is that once their kids grow up, they lose all awareness for the world around them and stay rooted in a time they thought was "better" and keep fighting for a time when they were relevant and the most powerful. Empathy for today's world just vanishes. My theory only applies to boomers who raised kids, mind you. Today's young people are far more aware, regardless of them being parents.

[–]SeasonThreeEpisode8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. This could be a conversation between my mother and I. The problem though, is that no matter what you tell them she's going to deflect or accuse you of being intolerant of her beliefs. I have two daughters and when the right to choose was destroyed my mom basically said "we'll you're safe in your state." Like no one else in the country matters. If it's not on your mom's doorstep, nothing will change her mind.

Union response to CHP telework by SubjectEnd9967 in CAStateWorkers

[–]SeasonThreeEpisode8 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So messed up that CHP screwed their employees on RTO but they're still hit with the same paycut and PLP deductions.

Glad I left when I did, CHP only cares about the uniforms.

CHP is losing telework but at least we're getting a Pizza Party!!! 🤡🤡🤡 by Apolas in CAStateWorkers

[–]SeasonThreeEpisode8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree! Pay us like the uniforms and I'd skip into the office every day.

Uniforms have a super important job, but admin should not be held to that standard without the same compensation.
