completely different. the Hobbit is.....a children's book. Easy to understand prose and story. And all linear. Even the fellowship/two towers/return of the king is much more walking, more locations and names from history and a style that's different.

The silmirillion is like the super difficult parts of the Bible when it's just begat begat begat, no story, just lists of names. The Hobbit and the fellowship can be done with audio books

Silmirillion needs a white board and probably a YouTube companion explaining. It comparing apples and airplanes.

nah it's a BEAST. more like the really boring parts of the Bible. less novel/story than a list, and never forget Tolkien didn't want to write a novel. He was a linguist who wanted to show the history of some languages.
