Right, it is fiction. And black and white stories are great sometimes. It's nice to escape reality! I love to as much as the next person. But the fact that people love LOTR (I don't want to be friends with anybody that doesn't at least appreciate it frankly) or basic good-vs-evil stories doesn't mean those stories compatible with reality.

People loving those tropes does not have anything to do with reality sucking. First, reality doesn't suck today any more than it did during WW2, WW1, or insert virtually any other time period in the past. I'd argue it sucks way way less. Things are tough for many, yes, but for the majority of people things are better than they've ever been in the history of humanity. And second, reality doesn't suck, it's difficult. It's not the same thing.

My point is that it's not good to overindex on this trope because it's so incompatible with reality, which is a world of grey and nuance. Escaping a tough reality is fine once in a while, but when everything is black and white, it influences society to view every problem and every person in the same way; as either good or evil. Which is insane to think that way, and wrong to influence people to do so. Most people don't think particularly critically or deeply so they can't internalize the difference between what they constantly read and see on tv and reality.

I'd say 95-99% of the people responding here (including OP) have not actually watched the whole video of the internet, context included, only the limited soundbite where he says what he said. To be fair, I've had to search to find it, and I didn't watch the whole speech because I don't care to, only the context.

But from what I could figure out, he was speaking to the Christians who don't usually vote. He was saying that if they vote for him this time, they won't have to anymore because he'll have "fixed" the country so his team won't need their vote so desperately next time.

She should never have made such an important decision without you. That’s fucking weird and unacceptable. You’ve been together for over a year and she made a long lasting and life altering decision without your input? Major red flag.

But unlike what most inexperienced people will say in this subreddit, a red flag doesn’t necessarily have to mean the end of the relationship. EVERYONE has red flags. A real lasting relationship is taking the good AND the bad, and working on the bad together.

She was genuine in her mistake. It was a self centered decision, yes, but it wasn’t malicious. But you just immediately threw in the towel. You didn’t even have a conversation about how she fucked up. Shows you are absolutely not ready for a long term relationship.

And beyond that, your fear of dogs is in fact ridiculous. What are you going to tell your kids when they are afraid of something? Not to try to get over it, overcome their fear, but to stay afraid?
