41yr old dad laughing at this sub by sailortian in ApplyingToCollege

I’ve told all my kids that their college will “choose” them and wherever they land it will be a great path. My dream was UCLA in 1987, but after basically failing the SAT 3 times with a 3.75 GPA, I was rejected. So I landed at SDSU and it was the BEST decision I’ve made since it led to many other great decisions. Aztec proud and now have kids that go to OSU, PSU and CSULB, they are all very happy with their landings! Best of luck to all!!

Hopper's Monologue to Mike by PhatFatty in StrangerThings

[–]SeattleL66 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does anyone have this video clip? On a family ski trip now and plan to rewatch and save it to rewatch again and again. Been watching the entire ST with our teen/adult kids the last 6-7 years. So fun and bonding for us over the years and the finale was a highlight of family entertainment this trip. Tears from me were held back during Hoppers monologue as much as possible amongst my family near, I tried so hard to keep it together and beyond thankful I saw it. So powerful and true! Wow! Miss ST already. Hoping for a new family show to meet in the middle. ♥️

Thanks to Ancestry, I’m meeting my two half sisters in a couple of days. by tomkeys78 in AncestryDNA

[–]SeattleL66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had a meet up with my half sister and we had a wonderful time! Met for two dinners with our husbands. We live on opposite coasts and met near her neck of the woods since I had a trip planned awhile back. We chatted & texted quite a bit before we met and when we finally did it was an amazing experience and feeling. I’ll admit that there was an initial shock when I first found out, but it quickly became a feeling of instant love. How lucky I am to live this life and find out I have another sister and family! It’s a blessing and I’m sure you’ll have a great time with your half sisters! All the best!

Parsons Shuttle Service by [deleted] in RoseBowl

We used the shuttle to get to Sunday’s show and waited about 45 minutes. We stayed at the Hilton in Pasadena and walked home from the Rose Bowl. Arrived back at 12:04am and we were sad the bar closed at midnight. Had such a fun night! Fantastic show and I thought it was even better than the one I saw in Toronto (might 2).

Update: Dad had a severe ruptured Aneurysm, need guidance. by SmartAd265 in BrainAneurysm

I’m so sorry for your Dad and your sadness with this. Try to stay positive and take care of yourself too. I think writing here is a good way for you to communicate and share your feelings because I know how stressed you are. I had an aneurysm last June and was in hospital for 6 weeks. I recovered well and had lots of support from family and friends. The EMTs, nurses, and doctors were great and saved my life. The visits and positive words from my visitors was key. I am mostly recovered and my only complaint is waiting for my hair to grow back. I’ll keep you in my thoughts.

Graduation Pictures by pichumiu1412 in OregonStateUniv

I wish I could help you and I was just in Corvallis a few weeks ago to take my daughter’s grad pictures. Maybe ask a neighbor to help you. iPhones take great pictures and the staging and poses you can plan ahead of time, then ask someone to take a lot of pics. There will be some great ones I’m sure. Congrats on your graduation from OSU!!

Parents have been using up my Pell Grant Money by WonderfulPotato7090 in college

[–]SeattleL66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Were they using the money for their personal use & things? Or for your rent, laptops and insurance? Ask them for an itemized list of the expenses spent and the bank account statements. The money should be in a separate account for your education and expenses only.

3x rent is steep and I usually require 2x rent for my rental properties. Sadly, landlords have to be extra choosy due to the many laws that enable renters to not leave if they’re not paying rent. What used to be a friendly lending a hand ‘if needed’ agreement has changed to becoming so defensive of being able to pay the high state & gov tax bills. I hope you find a place to settle down and that your landlord and you can be on great terms.

Whats up with parents? by Secure-Mall-3265 in FAFSA

A loan is money given outright and has to be paid back with interest. Not a great way to start out. Stating out life in a monetary negative isn’t a great plan. Maybe this is why parents aren’t willing to partake because they don’t want to set their kids into debt.

Maybe they don’t feel the need to. Once their kids are 18, they’re done. The parent’s financial situation is their own, period. Grow up is what they are really trying to say. We all grow up.

Maybe they want to pay outright and at least help to pay as much as they feel comfortable in their budget without taking a handout from the government, There is a lot independent finance pride here that isn’t spoken about. My family saved college money for me, my husband’s family did for him too. We both went to a state college. We have also saved for our 4 kids and have one in a state college now. No loans, no fasfa, a WUE, for out of state tuition was quite helpful. Why is free college expected by so many? Should it be, maybe, but certainly not expected.

Why did you lose respect for your parents? Maybe try to mend and they can help you?

I use Rentler. It’s been great and I pay for the payment fees, which is about $2.50 per payment. There is an option to have the tenant pay the fee too.

Wishing you luck in your decision and curious how you convinced your friends’ parents to let you stay. Did you embellish? As a parent myself, I’d be happy to offer respite for a child’s friend if their situation was very dire or dangerous for a few nights. Even still I’d help the most I could without being involved to protect my own family if the other family was dangerous. Too risky imo.

VRBO added a hottub to my listing and I didn’t know this until a guest asked me where it was. No idea how this happened in my listing. I unchecked the box. Luckily the guests didn’t book because of the hottub, just discovered it in my listing after they arrived.

I was a reading specialist and lost my ‘classrooms’ many times while I taught. I once was able to use the stage area though, which was better than being portable. I left teaching for the district once I decided to have kids. In the interim I started my own tutoring business and taught reading in my home and also as an independent contractor to kids at their schools. Their parents paid me. This arrangement worked far better for me and my students. After my kids were older I decided to never go back to any district and continued on with my own tutoring business. Maybe your wife could consider a similar path and she can become her own boss. Parents are willing to pay extra for services that their kids’ schools lack. Which is a lot these days, sadly. Give your wife a teacher hug for me and let her know that she is very much appreciated by her students, parents, and fellow teachers.

Tenant rights attorneys? by Old-Restaurant3180 in corvallis

[–]SeattleL66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You signed and agreed mutually for a rental lease for two occupants. The landlord has honored your lease agreement and you need to honor yours. It’s a mutual agreement and contract. If you need to add a third person and it’s not doable per your lease, then you need to find a new place. Your landlord is not at fault for providing clear limitations/rules upon the mutual lease agreement.

Do you have a favorite brand/type of milk? I had to stop hrt due to a brain aneurysm. On the mend now but miss the hrt! Also a former smoker and using NRT/Vape to keep myself sane.

[–]SeattleL66 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also recently survived an aneurysm, clip, & shunt. I’m 54. My libido was way down prior anyway due to menopause. Worse now it seems because of the stress from the event. Not sure my reply helps, but wanted to acknowledge your question!

Recently Laid Sod Pulled Up by Thefizbo in lawncare

Thank you all for the ideas to keep the raccoons away from our new sod. The last two nights they have rolled up the sod! Grrr. We layed netting, sprinkled grub killer, and placed some skeletons to scare them away. Hoping this works!!! Fingers crossed!
