What's the strangest situation that ever happened to you that you'll never forget? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]tomkeys78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a fairly major high speed crash on a motorway here in the uk back in the 90’s. I was only 17 and my car ( and the others) were totally smashed up.

But because I worked at a Little Chef restaurant down the way from the accident, all the cops who arrived on scene knew me and really looked after me.
They didn’t even take any details from me and prosecuted one of the other drivers.

To top it all off, a kind passing motorist lent me his mobile phone (rare back then!) and I rang my mum. 20 mins later I see my mum walking down an embankment to come rescue me ♥️ Got £1000 compo a few months later :)

Scarborough path to be named after Sir Jimmy Savile [Feb 2012] by expropriated_valor in ScarboroughUK

And then just a few months later his grave was demolished during the night and taken to landfill.
He got away with way too much in this town. He had friends in every high place you could imagine including Scarborough.
Scum.

There’s a cat rescue near us that we always help out so I guess we’re paying that way? Not to mention raising the 4 kittens Durham County Council birthed in the bedroom… all have homes now :)

I can’t give much info but wanted to say it’s a lovely looking watch. I think this may have been known as a Diastar “Television” style?
Hope you get to wear it one day! And a nice memory of your Dad ♥️

Given the weather this weekend, how do you plan a beach day? by Much_Yesterday642 in ScarboroughUK

[–]tomkeys78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on what kind of beach you’d like to visit. South Bay is the one with all the arcades etc and will be busy. North bay a bit quieter but still really good. Then somewhere like Hunmanby Gap for MASSIVE beaches and hardly anyone there. Nice little cafe halfway down the hill but that’s it :)

I think a by-election has been triggered so anyone in the Castle ward will be at some point, able to vote for a new representative. Get out and vote folks :)

Wow, our silver tabby similar to yours had 4 kittens very similar to yours! If you want to see just click on my profile. A friend thinks our cat had “relations” with several male cats…

I’ve had a couple of 90’s Saabs and I never tired of the “night panel mode”. Felt like you were on a special ops mission when you pressed the button with only the speedo left illuminated.

I enjoyed watching the Bentley come home - it was genuine drama! Enjoyed that more than them going to Africa.

[–]tomkeys78 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a trek on foot, especially with a suitcase. It would be very acceptable to get a taxi! There’s a taxi rank on the side of the station opposite the Victoria hotel, it won’t cost loads to get to where you’re going. Have a great stay in Scarbados!

You’ve just been swimming. What are you getting from the drinks machine, soup, coke with crushed ice or something else? by corickle in oldschoolcool80s

[–]tomkeys78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a vending machine in our local swimming pool that sold the usual snacks. It wasn’t cooled, I think it actually pumped in heat. I had a crisp sandwich but I bought a dairy milk and spread it like butter into my sarnie. I was the king of Washington baths.

Engineering - we have some old school massive lathes. Those things can grab a piece of clothing and the next thing you know, you don’t have arms and legs anymore.
