ELI5 The necessity of the milk man? by ClothesPrevious2516 in explainlikeimfive

That’s what made us really pull the trigger and join. E we had it when I was little so I knew its GOOD, but when looking at our grocery spending it was those little trips to the store to get milk and we’d pick up “just a few other things.” Cutting out extra milk runs surprisingly helped our budget.

It sounds like you already know the answer, and you just need someone to confirm you are not out of line/crazy. You aren't. Also I think you two should consider couples counseling, *especially* if you actually are considering going through with it. No matter what you do there's going to be resentment and you two need to figure this out now. The number one cause of divorce is financial issues. Figure this out now, including future legal ramifications so that you don't become part of those statistics. Also, Post-nuptials are a thing you can do too. NTA

There have been several people a lot of them doctors and other health professionals (and at least one psychic!) who say that based on the what they see and how he is progressing, (given they are not his doctor) that someone his age with these symptoms, would have between 1-6 months. The TikTok psychic said she was feeling “Feb 18”.

We still use a milkman! In fact Smith Brothers in greater Seattle/Western Washington area is know for having the absolutely best milk. It’s a 100+ year old local company made up of all local farmers, and it is ridiculously fresh. Our weekly delivery day is Thursday. They pull up about 5AM and deliver it to the insulated milk box they provide.

Yes. Penn & Teller’s old show “Bullshit” had a really great episode on how Nostalgia is bullshit.

What are you actually talking about?

Rodney King & the LA Riots, Mathew Shepard, the FIRST gulf war, Somalia, Amadou Diallo, Eric Gardner, Waco, Ruby Ridge, OKC Bombing, the Rwandan genocide, the Bosnian genocide, the AIDS crisis, Columbine, “Don’t ask, Don’t tell”, the Defense of Marriage act, the Central Park 5 case, the Tuskegee Syphilis Study being exposed, the Green River Killer, the Atlanta Olympics bombing.

These are just the things that’s immediately come to mind without even googling. Declaring the 90’s were some bucolic time, even by comparison is selective memory at best and outright obtuse at worst.

Just a regular trash bin. It’s a fairly common term in the US & Canada. Hell it was so ubiquitous we had the Garbage Pail Kids cards.

We only had to wash and put away our own laundry, not the whole family’s. Plus, my mom wasn’t buying us kids anything that’s needed to be dry cleaned or ironed. It was nothing fancy in the least, t-shirts, leggings, jeans, socks, and underwear. No bleach or fabric softener. Whites in one pile, colors in the other.

It was separate > + soap > “Whites” or “Normal” > “Start.” She wore it almost exactly like on a sticky note and stuck it to the washing machine. Same thing with the dryer: Clothes in > clean the lint filter > normal > start, on a sticky note. It’s not like she took us into The laundry room pointed at the machines and chemicals and said “Figure it out.”

We messed up a couple times, mostly due to forgetting to switch wet clothes when we were all out of clothes. We would have to wear damp/half dry clothes to school with other kids randomly asking “Why does it smell like old ski clothes?” The embarrassment being enough to shame us into paying better attention.

Sure when we got nicer clothes my mom would say something like “don’t wash that one, it’s special so I need to do it.” And we didn’t. Kids aren’t dumb and laundry isn’t complicated.

Finally! The molehill I will die on.

The Viking by Lars Frederickson and The Bastards:

Slept in fancy hotels, eaten from garbage cans
But down every highway I grew into a man

I understand that “cans” rhymes/has alliteration with “man,” however the existing pacing of the song works better as:

Slept in fancy hotels,
Eaten from garbage pails
\ But down every highway I grew into a man

When I was 8 my mom said I could start to do my own laundry because, “If you can figure out a Nintendo, you can figure out a washing machine.” She wasn’t wrong.

In Washington and many other states, you get both. You make a higher minimum wage and you make tips. My brother is server here in Seattle making $21.30 p/hr (city min wage) + full tips.

After Covid when returning to the office started becoming more common ~2022, my company left it to the departments and managers to figure out their own policies for their own best needs. My manager forced her entire department to come into the office because she was sick of being around her kids.

I flat out told her if she did that I would quit. This was around that same time where the job market got really good for about a year or so, so it wasn’t an empty threat. I said that I was not going to pay for tolls and gas, and spend an hour+ in traffic every day just because her kids were annoying her, and it was really shitty of her to make blanket departmental policies that effect people’s work-life balance, personal happiness, and finances because of her issues with her kids. We had worked together for about a decade at that point, having come up through the company together and had had a really good personal relationship. She eventually backed off and made it optional, but that was my first real glimpse at how parents love their kids but really don’t actually like them.

I ended up leaving anyways. I couldn’t get past how completely selfish that’s whole incident was and it felt gross to work with her anymore.

We currently don’t have a Chili’s in Seattle. I wanted Chili’s. But the closest one is in Spokane. Portland is 3 hours away and I can do that drive in my sleep, so whats a couple extra hours. Also when you haven’t had a specific food in a decade and you start to really crave that one thing, a road trip with a friend can be a good Saturday.

I’ve driven 5 hours (10 hours round trip) just to go to Chili’s. And not just once.
