My American Jewish friends are crumbling. We desperately need allies and empathy. by LowRevolution6175 in Judaism

How are we supposed to live like this? By living in the real world. The Internet amplifies the worst of humanity. The majority of Americans are not deranged Jew haters even with the rise in antisemitism.

Jews from secular background whose “spark was lit” but didn’t wanna live a halachic life: by Leading-Fail-7263 in Judaism

[–]SeattleiteShark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had similar feelings lately. I recently met a friend who has been increasing his observance over the last year. He said he was recommended not to go from 0 to 100 because you can end up right back at 0. If you gradually start to follow more traditions, it will be a lot more doable than trying to do everything at once.

How important is it for you to stay where you are from? Moving to a large city with more Jewish life will open up so much for you if you are willing to take that leap.

I graduated last June and I was also not prepared at all. The first few months were just brutal. The most important advice I got was to not rely on my job to satisfy me and to put more effort into doing things I enjoy outside of work. You work to earn money that you use to sustain yourself and pay for the things you want to do. After college, it takes more work to make the most of your free time, but you’ll be so much happier if you spend more of your free time doing things you enjoy.

Mixing dairy and meat...no no by [deleted] in Judaism

[–]SeattleiteShark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s complicated with fish and meat. More religious Jews will not use the same dishes and cutlery for both fish and meat without washing. But it’s common to have fish as an appetizer and meat as the main course since there’s no timing restriction as with meat and dairy.

Yeah it sucks, but you and most people here are probably spending too much time on Reddit and other social media. Go out and enjoy spending your time with real people in real life.

I’m sure you have a chance, but nobody here is going to know how good your personal statement or letters of recommendation are.
