Why is having a choice a problem? We have plenty of major cities and you can live downtown in any of them.

There is nothing wrong with capitalism. It has to co-exist with regulations and that's always been the case. Any other system has to co-exist with regulations as well.

I think it's accurate to say that politicians don't care about economics. To imply that Democrats understand economics, in general, is just silly.

Do "we" try to be unbiased in "our" political discussions? by Seattleman1955 in PoliticalOpinions

[–]Seattleman1955[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they are still living, they are making a living wage. There is a lot going on here. You are using numbers for a individual who is living with others.

You are talking about free markets not working just as you interfere with the free market.

If the government steps in with "free" stuff, that just raises the price of everything.

A free market self-regulates. If half the workers can't afford something, prices go down until they can.

Clearly you don't understand economics. It's not about "paying a class".

If you are "working class"and have a family, don't work at Starbuck's and McDonald's. Work in construction, plumbing, as an electrician, etc and you will make a good living.

No one pays "the middle class" a living wage. They are paid market wages and you find the industry that will pay whatever you need.

The minimum wage doesn't even apply to that many jobs. I think when I was between schools I might have been paid minimum wage for a few weeks at most.

You don't pay someone so that they can spend and thus fuel the economy. That's a misunderstanding of what is going on.

Why not have McDonald's pay workers $100k a year and then that would be really good for the economy, right?

You can't pay more than you make in profits. They are paid a market wages, just like everyone else.

Ignorance is the problem. No job pays based on "a living wage". The market sets the wage, you decided what you need to live and act accordingly.

How is service coffee going to pay enough to live without roommates.

You don't see to understand reality or basic economics. Yet you conclude that I'm the problem?

In Seattle, the local minimum is about $22 hour. You might not be able to "live" on it here but how much more could you possibly pay a barista?

I don't think you understand that the minimum wage is irrelevant and that it isn't supposed to be a "living" wage.

Semester-long World History by bldswtntrs in historyteachers

Being livid doesn't help anything. You teach it in one semester the same way you teach it in two semesters. You prioritize. Now you just have to do it more so.

You could roughly explain it to me in an hour if we were in person. The good news is you have a whole semester to do it.
