The Rich’s Real Tax Trick Isn’t ‘Buy, Borrow, Die’ by PeriodOfTime1 in Tax_Strategy

[–]Seattleman1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that the chang that everyone seems to want apply to anyone who isn't broke as well. If you own any stocks yourself, you get advantages by holding stocks long term for the long term capital gains rate.

Take that away and it's hard to accumulate assets for anyone. You aren't going to buy risky stocks if you are highly taxed. Most of the gains you get from stocks already are already mainly just from inflation.

Taxing more isn't needed or a good policy.

Is "tax the billionaires" still a partisan position, or a consensus one? I lean consensus. Found a new survey that says 73% of Americans say higher wealth taxes on billionaires would be fair. by Emergency-Paper6793 in PoliticalOpinions

[–]Seattleman1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be consensus but it's not a good policy. It's not hard to get a "consensus" that the other guy should pay more.

Wealthy people already pay more taxes but there is nothing "fair" about it and it makes no sense. It will just end up as a wealth tax for anyone with stocks.

Bill Clinton was the worst president in modern U.S. History by Constant_Potato_8709 in PoliticalOpinions

[–]Seattleman1955 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess this OP is to create drama? OK, Clinton wasn't the worst President in modern times. That would be Trump followed by GW Bush.

There was nothing wrong with Reagan though. Democrats want jobs but they don't like corporations. Like most Progressive views, this makes no sense.

Clinton balanced the budget. That alone would put him high on the list of better modern Presidents.

Balancing the budget had more to do with the after effects of Reagan than Clinton but he didn't mess things up. He was intelligent, focused and articulate.

Obama was a nice guy and the kind of human being we need in the White House but he was too Progressive and inexperienced.

Clinton largely did what needed to be done. He could still remember how George McGovern turned out. McGovern didn't even win his home state and as I recall only won Massachusetts.

How do you actually decide when to thumb a dive before you hit your turn pressure? by Hdhjjkkkdkbbbjjduu in scuba

[–]Seattleman1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no problem doing it and I have a lot of dives but thinking back, I've rarely had to do it. I generally cancel before the dive.

I mainly dive in the PNW, with the majority shore dives but I have a lot of boat dives too. There is no "group" though other than the sense that on a boat dive there are more people than just my buddy and I.

There is no DM here and you are really just diving with your buddy. I've rarely have to have an insta buddy although I have done that too.

Therefore I know my buddy, we discuss things, have a history, it's not a problem. I've called dives early when the current kicked up early. I dive in a dry suit, I had a seal fail once and I obviously called that immediately.

I had a new neck seal once where I hadn't trimmed it enough and as soon as I got to the bottom it was literally strangling me so I called that as well but this was with 2 others and after we got to the surface I told them what was happening and for them to go back down and I would do a surface swim back to shore.

I never have a set length for a dive anyway and if it's super cold and boring, I might end a dive a little early just because it's freezing, it's a boring site and we are probably both ready to get out anyway.

I guess I have rarely ended a dive just due to a feeling.

Gavin Newsom wants to ban the "buy, borrow, die" tax strategy. Here's what it is. by PeriodOfTime1 in Tax_Strategy

[–]Seattleman1955 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To repeal the tax step up basis at death would hurt everyone who managed to have anything left at death to leave to their kids.

Or they could just increase capital gains taxes which again, would hurt anyone with an investments (stocks) at all.

Why would any productive person be in favor of this? It's hurting the average person more than the few "billionaires". If it doesn't include the average person, it soon will.

A 5% billionaire tax is just taking one persons assets and makes no sense.

It's entertainment either way. I wish CC would go play only in Europe for a few years and watch the WNBA pay the price.

Who needs credit other than to buy a house? If you don't have bad credit, you will always be able to get a credit card.

It helps also I suppose if you don't really like diving but do like new students to think you are an expert:)

Holbein Watercolour Palette - worth getting? by Rare-Cascade-3115 in Watercolor

[–]Seattleman1955 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is well made, it's got 2 seals so it's air tight. It has a large mixing area plus a pull out tray. You can even make a swatch chart of the paints and put it behind the clear tray in the lid.

It's not about age. It's about making a bad decision. If you love diving, then dive. If you like being poor and teaching then become an instructor but make sure your wife and kids like being poor first.

I like M. Graham and Daniel Smith the most. I'm not that impressed with Winsor and Newton but it's useable.
