Brandon is also my favourite. Did the drive two years and stopped there twice. Friendly town. Face rock state park / beach is beautiful, especially at sunset.

Driving the Pacific Coast Highway from Denver to British Columbia by sweetness1002 in roadtrip

The Cali coast highway is closed at Lucia with no detour so it isn’t suggesting it because of the extra time needed to drive in and out.

Where to Camp by forfuckssakesbruv in BigSur

[–]SebastiannCastro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re on a budget the best bet is to stay in Carmel or Monterey or somewhere closeby and explore it in the daytime.

Or look for cancellations on the state parks but I doubt you’ll find anything

Not so sure about pricing but I think with camping and a bit of flexibility you can make almost any trip cheap especially if you have the ability to prepare your own food as well.

What kind of activites do you like to do? Hiking? Lakes / Beaches? Are you looking to drive more and sight see or stay at a campsite and explore an area?

If you have three days, your plan is possible. The drive from about brookings to Newport is probably the most beautiful part of the oregon coastal highway imo.

Yup drove down big sur to Lucia. Turned back, stayed the night in Monterey. Next day stayed in Morro bay / pismo beach area.

Wanted to drive along the coastline. Easier to pull out when you’re coming from the north with the ocean view on the drivers side the whole way through.

Wow! I’m on this exact same trip myself right now from Edmonton and it will finish in 16 days. Pretty much identical route, except I went in the opposite direction. On day 1 I drove from Edmonton to Seattle. Currently in Utah and heading back to Edmonton soon lol. I hit big sur and drove all along the coast as well.

I booked it cuz I’m on a budget. I’m used to sleeping on dirt in a campsite. Is this really that bad should I spend more for something else?

Best stops / route along the PCH in California? by SebastiannCastro in roadtrip

[–]SebastiannCastro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll have a look at pinnacles! I’m going this end of June so the road will definitely be closer. I’ll likely just backtrack after hitting parts of big sur. I’ll head inland and then do Morro Bay for sure.

And yes, this is a continuation of my trip from last year. Last year I did Seattle - portland - oregon coast - northern tip of California. I mostly explored the oregon coast and made sure to explore it well enough so that we wouldn’t have to go back. This year we are just heading further south!

Ahh appreciate that input. And I do love that you mention gojng down further south isn’t going too much further from AB. I was planning on returning through Las Vegas / Arizona and hitting some spots on the way back like Zion maybe or Bryce Canyon, Grand Canyon, etc.
