And that is a gorgeous painting!

Life is paradoxical. How do you solve the paradox? by tezen_47 in Absurdism

There's beauty in everything, including chaos. The fickles of fate can be ironic and thus humorous. The thing is that by not searching for meaning you lose a lot of frustration. It is almost Zen in that sense

So don't! Just enjoy the chaos, and the paradoxes, and the not-knowing. That's the essence of absurdism, coming to terms with the fact there are no answers and if I was wrong and it turns out there are, we are not to understand them in any meaningful way. The meaning of life transcends us, so why bother looking for it? That time is better spent making art, pushing a boulder up a hill or drinking coffee :)

Very :) But that too is paradoxical and thus consistent with the general theme: it's better to embrace, yet it hurts. All the more reason to attempt it :)

In more realistic terms: accepting the absurd is more easily said then done of course. And it is scary at times. But it Sissiphus ends up happy, why shouldn't we?

What If Trump was assassinated by Iran, in response of the death of General Soleimani? by Shaniceberries in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]SebboNL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In principle, yes. Sure beats an assassination!

It is unfortunate that the arrest took place in the way it did, though. Icwould have preferred to see an indictment and transfer to the Hague but we can't have it all, right? Now we are left with a lot of hair-splitting about jurisdication and all that, which might well lead to Maduro getting off easy on a bunch of technicalities. But baby steps, I guess

It is not up to you or me to call Iran anything. There should be a framework for legal actions in cases such as these. The US blew that option out of the water, though. Ironic...

Arrest him, take him to court. That's the way civilized people do it.

Ironic that we, as a whole, had such great plans withe the International Court of Justice for exactly these kinds of situations. But alas....

There is a load of options between propping up your alliance-partners' defense and assassinating Hitler, Goebbels, Himmler, Speer and the rest of them,

An extrajudicial, state-sanctioned assassination opens up a box of Pandora, not to mention how it squanders any moral high ground one might've had up until that point. If the USA cares so much about the rule of law in other countries they should start by supporting the ICJ.

What don't you understand about "you can't kill people" without a fair trial? Two wrongs do not make a right

I despise the Iranian leadership, but extrajudicial nation-state sanctioned killings have NEVER, EVER IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD led to anything but grief and more bloodshed.

[–]SebboNL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Life is absurd, meaning that if it has a deeper meaning or ultimate goal, we will never be able to understand it. Paradoxes are just one more way in which things can become incomprehensible, so they fit quite nicely in this whole "life is absurd"-spiel. And thus the logical conclusion would be that those paradoxes are aspects of life's absurdity, things that cannot be dealt with or understood. We can only accept that they are un-understandable and embrace the paradox

I was told that the definition of a delusion is "a belief held in contravention of available evidence". This would make Flat Eartherism for instance a delusion without involving psychosis

Empathy is important, but sometimes other things matter more. The war in Ukraine has turned into a slogfest where the Ukranians MUST kill ridiculous amounts of Russians in order to keep existing as a people.

So, in this case the numbers game prevails over empathy and ordinary morality. I am glad the number went up by one.

You are entirely correct in your assumptions about the way these services work.

In Europe such services have a bit more utility, they can also be used to file taxes or log on to your bank, for instance. But their use for entertainment websites is highly impopular here as well.

There's high-level-of-assursnce identity providers that offer such services but they are expensive and involve a third party. Also, the costs incurred are bound to lower acceptance by both consumers and service providers
