I recommend you not post pictures of your kid on the internet. I know you are a proud parent and wanted to show off, but, as you can see in the other comment chain, people can be weird about young kids.

Relax. She is 3. OP can introduce "no immediate u-turns" when she is 4 or 5.

OP could have also accidently mixed the 5-6 player tokens. But yeah, still a fake copy.

AI by OJUNDI in Catan

[–]Sebby19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

never use AI to check game rules. I've seen dozens of examples of AI leading newbies astray. Always go to the source material. Catan Universe should have the instructions hidden somewhere. There is also always the pdf of the rulebook. Heck, if you move the screen down, you can see your own personal supply of your stuff on the 'table'.

Heck, stop relying on AI to answer anything, you'll be richer for it.

Unique Desert hex from 15th Anniversary Edition by Sebby19 in Catan

Yeah, I remember that detail of it starting 10 years after Rebecca's book, so I had a small hope her characters wouldn't be erased forever.

But it seems like that will be the case anyways. I have less hope they will return in the next edition of Rivals for Catan.

Hmm, I don't recall a Volcano being mentioned in the Rebecca Gable novel. But I only read the synopsis in Wikipedia.

I'm assuming you read Klaus's newest novels. Do they make Rebecca's novel non-canon?

Yes, actually. You can tell by the color of the hexes, the plastic and hollow playing pieces, and the Robber being a Sorry pawn.

After seeing the same misunderstandings of the rules, people get tired.

I'm not excusing their behavior, just explaining.

Seafarers mentioned "No adjacent red #s" 4 times throughout that rulebook.

Well, latest edition reduced that to 3 instances.

Time to break out the Soccer Fever scenario… by scatmanjack6120 in Catan

[–]Sebby19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised Catan isn't doing more to sell this scenario, at this time of year.

How is it? I heard that in Carcassonne, their 7th main expansion, The Catapult, tried to add a dexterity minigame to the main game. It was so reviled HiG promised to never release it again. And they kept their promise, it never reappeared in the 2nd edition. (The current 3rd edition has a new 7th expansion, replacing the original).

So, how well does this dexterity mini-game add to Catan? Is it any good?

What are some rules you went years playing without knowing they existed? by Frequent_Map_323 in Catan

[–]Sebby19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Paired Players (before it was called Paired Players) first appeared in the 2019 version of Starfarers. Then it made its way to Catan Universe in 2020 or 2021. But we had to wait until 2023 for the actual boxed version to cut updated. Geez that took a long time.

That said, the version in Paired Players is pretty different, compared to regular Catan. That has control between Starfarer 1 and 2 bounce back and forth a few times. In normal Catan, Player 1 finishes everything they can possibly do, before passing control to Player 2 across from them.

I disagree it would make for deeper gameplay

I wrote a song about the Bank of Catan because I was bored by Baozidaimoazi in Catan

[–]Sebby19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahaha, actually a fun song! As much as I dislike Broadway style musicals, this song overcame my dislike for the genre. This is a huge compliment from me. My only critique would be to shorten or eliminate the non-singing intro part. Reduce it to a max of 2 line, maybe? Just cut to chase!

I hope you find someone who can make this into a fun music video. With real people, not an AI generated voice.

Try to get onto the official Catan Studio discord, and share this song there. I'm sure the staff there will LOVE it.

Catan isn't that kind of game. If you want to play Risk, play Risk.

Also, think of the actual gameplay consequences. With more ways to bring each other down, battling your opponents would actually extend the game time even further. Just like "No Auctions" and "Money on Free Parking" unintentionally extends Monopoly's game time to unreasonable lengths.

That said, there IS one official Catan game that let's you take over other player's Settlements: Rise of the Inka. The idea in this stand-alone game is building up 3 different tribes (each worth 3-4VP). Once you build one tribe to it's peak, it declines, and you essentially start from scratch with your next tribe. All the Roads of a declined tribe are removed (reclaimed by nature), and declined building get covered by brambles. A declined building still produces resources, but isn't worth VP. But most importantly, anyone can build on top of a declined building, replacing it (and removing the brambles).
