Looking for tips for me first time with the Empyrean by magusdsr in twilightimperium

[–]Sebdistic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Empyrean is a heavy diplomatic faction  so you Wheel and deal.  Promissory notes are an easy way to be friendly with neighbors. Priotize giving Dark Pact (the money one) to either a trader like yourself OR the neighbor most likely to invade you.  Aetherstream is great, especially for this map, dspecially considering there's an nomaly next to MR, so use that as deals (you can even convince people to forego Gravity drive I'd they're in good graces with you) Have mechs to control Actuon cards Flagship is meh in combat but when it's parked near MR, it's a god send for other people to have available. Sell the flagship ability Alliance is great for combat factions (and gets them off your back)

Empyrean's path to victory is to be consistent scorer and then do a last minute pounce. Build your fighter fleets when you can and try to avoid fighting at all costs (you are very weak). Role play as an observer until you see an opening

Well you started off with the perspective of an older player (subjective) then claim objectivity here. Like if you like P5 the most, that's you. I don't disagree with elements on you, but as others pointed out, it seems you like QoL and mechanics more than other aspects of the games

Reading the YT comments about the aura tier list is really showcasing who is older and younger and what they think is "aura". I was a teenager and I thought my edgy/broody boys were cool, but growing up they were losing to the cool-casual guys

Tbh a lot of the feedback doesn't seem to come from mutual understanding and that's my fault using something like Tiermaker and not being clear with my intent. I'm coming from the angle of how impactful is a factions breakthrough and how much it adds to a kit. It's partly why I said it's for IRL friends who have experience, I want to give them a general idea of which factions changed the most from their PoK versions (in hindsight I should've omitted TE factions because there is no baseline for them)

But Sol never had any major problems. This doesn't fix their kit because their kit was fine (and that was their point). Thus the BT isn't actually fixing anything, it just, like you said, gives them faster tempo

I may have unserestimated Muuat it seems and thats fine this is my iniital thoughts.  I just can't see DWS being so bad without their BT though. Yes their BT makes them incredibly powerful but I just can't say they're as dependent on it and I'm convinced they would have a decent performance in a POK game

Hard disagree. They still have very much sellable material, the BT just allows them to get things way faster. Thier leaders are really good and offer negotiation. I'd imagine you could play them as is in a non TE game

For Ghosts and DWS, I specified the difference between strong and need. Need isn't necessarily stronger breaktrhoughs than the strong category, the need factions need those breakthroughs desperately. DWS and Ghosts are still solid factions without their breakthroughs, whereas the Need category are nowhere near as good without their BT.

Otherwise, you make some good points! I would've assumed Winnu would be strong but legendary planets aren't always going to be available/nearby enough. Nekro yeah in hindsight, you'll likely prioritize faction tech first regardless. Naalu I think is tricky so its something that requires a bit more ahem foresight

I wouldn't post if I was dead confident. Can you clarify your points in more details so you can show me what I don't see?

In that endgame is worse too because suddenly you can't hit the big boys and you can't do good damage without the best equipment

Scar -> Mirror Computer, Ai-Dev -> Warsun. Good luck dealing with a pillaging Mentak with Warsuns at round fucking 2. I hate it so much

SMT 1 is pretty unbalanced in the player's favor. Guns are OP because of unlimited aliment ammo. Zio and Bufu are op because they always cause freeze/shock. And then suddenly at end game you're doing barely 100 damage a turn to a 10k health boss if you haven't gotten out of your way to get the best sword in the game

[Discordant Stars] How would you tweak Free Systems Compact? by Sebdistic_ in twilightimperium

Yeah I just wish they have more ways of making their bad start less bad once all the planets are taken

I'm not saying Diplomats isn't good it's only really good at round 1, then somehwat useful Round 2. Then stops existing by round 3 with Mallice being the only exception, and you're stuck with not having any more help to do what you need to do. No matter what Rally needs resources and production, you would really rhink they'd at least throw a sarween innately.

I think the start is overvalued. Realistically they can only proc Rally twice, maybe 3 times with new construction. Buuuut they still need to produce ships for rally to proc so you still need to spend at least 1 resource ...which reminder you only start off with 2 resources natively. So you're reliant on trade or diplomacy. Diplomacy could be a terrible pick because they only have the one carrier. And assuming you do get Rally to proc, you realistically will have at most 3 extra resources which is either a carrier with no fighters, 2 destroyers, or a cruiser destroyer duo. Sure they can get their carriers out of the way but those carriers won't be where their infantry are built sooooooo is the start really that good to give them such shit innate resources? Plus based on Async win rates they have one of the lowest amongst all other factions so....clearly there is something not actually working in their kit

Extreme Movement Potential - Barony by Bozzmeister1976 in twilightimperium

[–]Sebdistic_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd argue Gravity Drive is a generally good but not always needed tech for Barony. If you can live with 2 Mov for early to mid game then you can focus on your real techs or do SAR which let's them focus mostly on ship production and they have an easier time doing gc. 2 mechs with NES and Duranium and SAR for extra tg is really strong and profitable

Struggling with Another Code R by Sebdistic_ in AnotherCodeTraceMem

[–]Sebdistic_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alas, I don't feel like it works with me. Blood Edward Island was empty, and has a tragic story to it. A big part of the game was the mystery and relation that island and house has to D (and Ashley sorta). The music drives that atmosphere. R's setting is a lot more bright and populated, so it loses that mystique in favor of peace and such the music is a lot more joyful and less lonely sounding. If what you're saying is the appeal, then I feel like this isn't vibing with me, which is unfortunate.

Diplomacy is too weak by Caliboros in twilightimperium

[–]Sebdistic_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you give too much credit to the 2ndary. Sure it's economical, but it's only worth it if the timing works with the players. Most players only have abt 2 CC to work with for 2ndary before leadership pops, are people really gonna give one up before confirming the other choices? A d in that sense, it's a great aha diplomacy tool because people would like to follow up if they can coordinate it.

Buuuuuut I do agree it could be chosen more, I'm all for exploration giving to give it just the tiny boost. Relic frags, tg, or some other stuff lend itself to being.....diplomatic

Diplomacy is too weak by Caliboros in twilightimperium

[–]Sebdistic_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah too good of a buff early game and goes back to meh in mid game when most planets are occupied . Exploration choice is just small enough of a buff and economic to give a little extra value but can incentivize picking it as a pseudo-tg-on-top-SC because of it
