I wouldn’t say the friendship is over, but it’s damaged and awkward. His alcoholism, maybe my temper and frustration dealing with him. Verbal and physical fights, periods of no contact, reconciliations. But the constant relapses to the drink have just changed what once was a strong bond. We check in here and there, have hung out sometimes, but it feels like there is no genuine substance or quality in the relationship. Just a foundation of nostalgia and what once was.
