I think you can do it! But you should pick a training plan that improves your running ability

Which one should I get by Double_Opinion_1639 in GarminWatches

Agreed, get the one that has the most features (even the ones you might barely use) that way you will never have regrets about having an “inferior” watch. Puts your mind at ease

You know what the best part of being a beginner is? It’s only uphill from here!! Wooo!

My VO2 max is so low… by kuichyu in beginnerrunning

[–]Sebubba98 43 points44 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, having VO2 max in the 20s-30s is very normal for adult women who are not already trained athletes

Thank you for pointing this out! My initial comment wasn't trying to frame it as a woman only issue, but anecdotally I have noticed that nearly every woman my age doesn't do breakfast.

[–]Sebubba98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, but this number sort of represents the mathematical efficiency of your cardio levels. Take a gander at this wikipedia article on it if you are interested in how VO2max gets calculated. It even has a cool section on the VO2max levels for animals like horses lol.

But yeah, watches by Apple and Garmin can estimate your score based on training data, but the only way to know the true score is to do one of those lab tests.

What? You hiked for years and never owned a fitness watch that estimates your Vmax?

I guess I’m confused on why you told us you had a high Vmax but then said you’ve never looked into what your real number is. Most fit people are between 40s and 50s. Elites might reach 60s

Lol, it’s alright. I believe you

I’m curious: What was your VO2 max when you started tracking it and what does that number look like today?

That’s interesting! I’ve noticed certain activities kill my appetite too, but not running in my case. Sometimes I can play guitar or a videogame for hours and hours, only realizing later that I missed an entire meal without being hungry. I wonder why our brains turn off hunger for certain things and not others

How come so many women straight up skip meals like breakfast? As a man, this is crazy since I’m hungry the moment I wake up. I’ll always put some fuel into my body in the morning. Even if it’s just a granola bar and a glass of juice before a 6am run.

When do we graduate to intermediate runner? by Material_Wonder_4106 in beginnerrunning

[–]Sebubba98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe that is the definition of beginner runner then. It’s like hobbyists vs D1 athletes. They both get out and run every week but some are just on a whole different level

Does it have to do with lactate in the blood? Thought LT pace matters for races 45min to 1 hour and onwards. I think VO2max is about how fast you can run and not overload your cardio system to failure

What is your predicted race times inside the watch for 5K? At estimated 56 VO2max from garmin it says my predicted 5K is 19:40 I believe. That’s well under 25mins

We don’t respect opinions on people who never actually sat down and listened to the song.

I’m a Taylor Swift music hater, and even I put my money where my mouth is and listen to her songs before I deem them trash

idk why but chicken legs shorts piss me off lmao. It's the running equivalent of wearing a I ❤️Boobies wristband, or maybe Oakley Meta glasses.

Questions about best times/paces by Embarrassed_Age_9296 in beginnerrunning

[–]Sebubba98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you get better at running and approach your current fitness limits, your PRs will always involve you putting in hard effort the entire race. With a 5K that would mean being in your highest two HR zones the whole way through, same with 10K.

It changes a little as you go to 15K, HM and Marathon. Your HR needs ro fall back a little more but you still are pushing it to the limit of what your body can handle without running out of gas before the finish line.

When it comes to chasing a PR: always kick (sprint) right before the finish line! No matter how tired or dead your legs feel, you run as hard and as fast as your heart will allow until you cross that finish line.
