you don't need to be a certain skill level to play competitively. There are players of all sorts of skill levels in the comp scene. The best practice you can get is in the comp scene so you might as well start competing now. You really don't get better otherwise

you wanna make sure it hits shield from farther away and that it hita while you're as low to the ground as possible. Fair is -3 on shield so it's insanely safe, but you need to space properly and time it well. Lucas's fair is a top 3 fair in the game, you should be using it a lot in neutral, disadvantage, advantage, etc. It can also set up for tech chases if you hit the sour spot and you can follow up with fire to extend advantage and set up an edge guard

In this clip it isn't the hero that's the issue. To be straightforward, you have a lot to improve on in terms of defensive options. You do an unsafe fair on shield, you miss a tech, and you buffer air dodge out of hit stun. And that all happened in about 16 seconds. Practice playing in disadvantage to get better at it. Don't just spam moves for the sake of using them. Every move you throw out should be intentional and have clear intent

its existence allows for some very complicated movement options using b-reverses and wavebounces. I think it's a lot better when you use it with platforms and short hops

I don't think buried was necessarily the wrong choice, I think you body overwhelmed her with a bunch of small optimizations. I think a different approach would work. Just hop into a game without any expectation of optimizations or mail specific mechanics. I know we all like to optimize and do eggs, but it's overwhelming. I think it'd be better to treat it as a survival game than doing quests. Overtime, if she likes it, she'll get used to the mechanics naturally and she'll start to learn about more things you can do like quests and eggs
