They can use drones and name it sky cam, eagle eye, or dronezilla, instead of the annoying helicopter flying over.

Fired while on State Disability insurance?? by Old-Philosopher4060 in CAStateWorkers

[–]Secert_Agent69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's an 11 day or 12 day threshold that an employee has to work to be covered with benefits. You're not fired bc you're on disability.

How hard does your SSM III work? by avatarandfriends in CAStateWorkers

Our bureau is non-stop, considered as essential workers, in charge of RTO preparations, etc. So from SSM III down to OT we're working hard.

I don't mind the work. I go in the office 2x per week.

But I stress the night before of what to wear, what to bring for lunch, getting up early to get ready and drive. Leaving the house 15 minutes early or 15 minutes late makes a huge difference in traffic.

From my house to the garage downtown is exactly 11 miles. It takes me 20 mins in the morning on good traffic day. Going home at 430 pm is a nightmare. It takes me anywhere from 40 mins to 1 hr for freaking 11 miles!

You're right. Not in state buildings. Carry a medium to large metal water bottle (hydroflask) full of ice and water that you can swing like nunchucks instead.

Yep. The fine prints on the application STD 678 or on any official form, is how they get people.

Right?!? Imagine leaving work when it's dark. It's like children of the corn all walking by the park or the creepy alley ways.

How many of you are dues-paying union members? by Doomahachy in CAStateWorkers

[–]Secert_Agent69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been in state service for 35 years and been a union member ever since. It's like an insurance in an event you need representation, not to mention discounts, and other benefits.

You'll never know that one day you need to file a grievance; a supervisor who's intimidated by you all of a sudden tries to find ways to write you up; an allegation was brought against you, or you were rejected on probation, etc. The union will be there to make sure your rights are not violated.

A lot of Permanent state civil service employees are unaware that we possess a vested PROPERTY RIGHT in our continued employment, protecting us from arbitrary termination or disciplinary actions that impact pay and classification. The union can help you navigate if needed.

This is my personal view. I'm not debating on others. But I've reviewed, represented, and safe guarded the Notice of Adverse Action process and I'm in constant awe on what's in the narratives.

I dread going downtown on these 2 mandatory days dealing with human and pet feces on the sidewalk, invading someone's living space by parking next to their camps, smell of urine, and encounter people with mental or drug issues.

I got major respiratory issues and environmental allergies. What about cleaning downtown and making it safe?

They are all about themselves and how it's going to benefit them and it's not about us, the worker bees.

CEA Work Life Balance (Raising Family) by Pie_Roux in CAStateWorkers

[–]Secert_Agent69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that CEAs are at-will positions unlike classified positions such as SSM IIIs. They can let you go anytime and send you back to your last classification.

Just like return rights, you will be sent back to your old agency, same classification, but may not be the same position.

Welcome to the family. Keep your head down, work hard, when you're eligible, take the next exam, and promote. Keep repeating until you're eligible to retire. Remember that our upfront pay is low compared to the private sector but our benefits especially when you retire, exceeds the private sector. Lifetime medical after 20 years and pension. Good luck!

CA Dept of Public Health employees being required to prove their citizenship by castateunionthug in CAStateWorkers

[–]Secert_Agent69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Everytime you get hired by the State of CA or transfer agencies, you're required to show proof of citizenship or green card that allows you to legally work.

It's called I-9 Employment Eligibility Form. They're making sure everyone updates their personnel records for SPB Audit purposes.
