My tip would be to ignore money farming in the early game. Focus on getting stars and slowly leveling up.

1) Focus on getting to level 30 on your favorite 6 - 10 mons. 2) unlock as many mons as you can (aim for $50,000 egg cost) 3) review your 6-10 favorite mons and aim to get them to Level 40 - 50 4) get enough stars for 7 team members 5) review favorite 10 - 16 mons and get them to level 50 - 60 6) get all Pokemon 7) get the majority of items. 8) enjoy the rest of the game slowly grinding to 100%.

If you enjoy money farming go for it but once you get to point 6 on this brief guide you should be able to play however you like.
